…
The line between the physical and spiritual planes of existence was erased entirely upon the sight of two godlike beings in mortal form. Sat, the Spirit of Fright, had its noble counterpart Su, the Spirit of Light, crucified to the Shrine of Sat in some sort of dark, torturous ritual engulfed in a large sphere of ethereal energy. The peanut gallery in this show was at least two dozen wolf men who were captivated as they watched their master taunt Su.
“Just release the sun, and surrender to the darkness, and I might spare you”, Sat hissed as the large black and white wolf man paced around its exhausted foe.
“I will not allow you to wreck this world any further”, Su panted as Sat slowly ran its claws down the chest of Su’s fox-like human figure.
“That’s Su and Sat”, Kylie quietly proclaimed to Kirkley, who had his eyes homed in on the true alpha of the dog soldiers.
“We’ve got targets at 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3, 4 o’clock”, Kirkley reported as he glanced around the walls of the cavern.
“Just tell me what to do, honey”, Hannah grinned. “I’m waiting for the moment to bust this fucker open.”
“Kylie, take the left flank. Hannah, on me; we’re blitzing everything on the right.”
The exchange between the captor and captive was abrasively interrupted when three humans began a mass shooting on the wolf men standing outside of the energy barrier. The dog soldiers were completely caught off guard, and within a matter of seconds, 24 dog soldiers were dead and burning from the effects of the silver bullets and shotgun pellets. Su smiled upon seeing its champion having successfully proven his worth and now facing the most evil threat to the mortal world.
“Party’s over, mate”, Kirkley snarled.
“Hmm. I guess I misjudged you, my fallen sibling”, said Sat; “I suppose your Gifted One has strength. Now comes the time to test it. Gifted One, step into the ring. Leave your weapon and your pathetic followers behind you.”
“Pathetic followers?!” Hannah screeched; “Bitch, I will fucking-“
Kylie swung her arm in front of Hannah, who was ready to step up and slug the trash-talking spirit in the throat.
“I accept your challenge”, Kirkley declared as he shoved his AA-12 into Hannah’s arms and began to walk towards the sphere with a deadpan glare at his opponent, who slowly hissed and growled as it waited for the prey to come within range. Once Kirkley had crossed the border and was now standing before a large wolf man and its captive fox sibling, he pulled out his trusty machete, which was still stained from the blood of evil forces; man or dog man.
Kirkley roared aggressively as he lunged in to slash Sat asunder, but the evil spirit sidestepped his attack and Kirkley ended up striking the wall of the ethereal shield, which was now completely solid and impassable, meaning he was forced to kill his opponent before he was killed himself. While Kirkley picked himself up off of the ground, Sat made its move and struck Kirkley with a ferocious punch, knocking the man back down to the ground as his nose began to bleed upon making abrasive contact with the rock he was fighting on. Sat began howling as it continued to harass Kirkley, but Kirkley wasn’t willing to go down so easily. He had survived over five years in a world without a sun and a world full of dog soldiers, and after losing all but two of his dearly beloved friends and surviving two massive wars, he wasn’t about to lose to the final boss. Kirkley leapt up with his machete in hand and slashed at Sat’s muscular upper torso, leaving an enormous gash that began to heal itself.
“You’re not giving me a fair fight with this supernatural healing bullshit, are you; you twatter?!” Kirkley hollered as he continued to assault Sat with his machete.
“The concept of mortals and their ‘fair fights’ don’t apply in my world, human”, Sat cackled as he smacked the machete out of Kirkley’s hand. To Kirkley’s dread, his only weapon went flying out of the energy dome and next to Kylie and Hannah, who realized something that would give their friend an edge over his seemingly-unbeatable adversary.
“Kirkley! Over here, bro!” Kylie shouted as she flung the AA-12 up and towards Kirkley. Her theory was correct: although nobody could pass through the shield once Sat and the challenger had stepped into the ring, physical objects weren’t affected. Sat’s pitch-black eyes widened upon realizing that the tables had turned, and for the first time ever, the dark being felt what it was an enforcer of: fright.
“Like you said, morals and honor don’t apply down here”, Kirkley smirked as he furiously jammed the teeth of the muzzle choke on his shotgun into the left eye socket of Sat and pulled the trigger. As Sat shrieked in agony and rapidly ignited in pure white flames as its body was destroyed by the magical properties of the silver pellets, the unholy shield raised by Sat disintegrated along with the demonic being itself, and within the blink of an eye, Sat was but a pile of black ashes and occasional splinters of bone, which Kirkley proceeded to kick and brush away with his foot. Kirkley walked up to the Spirit of Light, who had just dropped down from its imprisonment upon the Shrine of Sat, and the fox-like spirit sveltely walked over to Kirkley, who bowed in respect for the most supreme authority in the universe.
“You have done well, my Gifted One”, Su whispered in a gentle, angelic voice.
“But what of the Shrine?” asked Kirkley, pointing to the still-glowing shrine that was draining Su of its power.
Su didn’t provide an answer; merely raising its arms and focusing on the evil shrine, which began to glow a bright yellow. The light went into overdrive, completely blinding the three humans as some unknown force also deafened them temporarily.
By the time their vision had been restored, Kirkley, Kylie and Hannah found themselves at the surface of a vastly confusing world, where sunlight shone down upon the ruins of Sadiz, and no wolf men were in sight. The sun had been brought back, and balance had returned to the world. The determination and sheer will of a single man, as well as the valiant sacrifices of those beside him, had restored order to an otherwise doomed Earth.
“I’m still stuck on the idea that we did it”, Kylie said as she looked around a newly-relit world.
“So, where does this leave us?” asked Hannah.
“Well, we’re here, and it’s time to make a dream come true”, Kirkley smiled.
…
Atop a certain resort’s rooftop in the middle of nowhere, a makeshift wedding ceremony had been built out of construction materials, and a beautiful Middle Eastern sunset shone down upon Kirkley and Hannah, with Kylie as a wedding officiant of sorts.
“Do you…”
“Kirkley James Rutland.”
“Take…”
“Hannah Lynn-Hope Marlowe.”
“As your lawfully wedded wife?”
“I do”, Kirkley nodded.
“And I do, too!” Hannah squealed, denying Kylie of finishing the rest of her statement as she pounced upon her newly-wed husband. As Kirkley and Hannah firmly embraced with tears in their eyes and enormous, blindingly bright smiles on their faces, Kylie looked up and nodded at the sun, knowing that the Spirit of Light was shining upon its champions.
