Today the house has been restored, the extensive grounds are well cared for and the local people and the members of the services who train, live and work there show real affection and pride in this wonderful and ancient place. Beyond the great lawn the beautiful River Flit flows timelessly on, the gnarled wisteria against the south front scents the early summer air and the magnificent vines in the glasshouse continue to offer up delicious black grapes to eat in autumn. Dorothy’s spirit does not seem so far away.
