“Thanks, I love you.” She only whispered it as he hugged her, but she held him tight. She was so choked she couldn’t say all the other things she wanted to.
“Right then. Let’s get on it.” Carl’s voice broke their hug, and Ryan winked.
“I have a confession to make,” he whispered as they walked out in front of everyone.
“Oh?”
“I haven’t been going to the gym on Wednesday nights.”
She frowned as he pulled her into the middle of the dancefloor.
“Let’s hear it for the bride and groom as they take to the floor for their first dance.” Carl put down the microphone and pressed start on the laptop hooked up to the sound system.
The first notes of ‘All of Me’ came on, and Em remembered Ryan singing. This time he didn’t sing but danced. He led her, and she followed, moving with accomplished steps, and when he lifted her, twirled her, and turned along with the song, she knew what to do. They moved so well, they might have rehearsed it until perfect, and her smile went from ear to ear.
They swayed close to each other for a few bars, and he whispered. “Your dancing class gave me lessons.”
She shook her head as he lifted her up, and turned on the spot. She arched backwards in his arms.
“Is there nothing you can’t do?”
“Not that I’ve found.”
“Cocky bastard.” They laughed. “I love you so much, thank you, for this, for everything.” They kissed as the music ended.
“Anything for you.” In the seconds of silence that followed, Carl’s voice interrupted the moment.
“Now, now, that was sweet, but there’s more in store for you.”
A chair was put out, and Em ushered into it. “What the hell?”
Carl and Ryan took off their jackets. Em looked from one to the other, suddenly apprehensive. Lewis, Kevin, Jess, Dan, May, Amy, and a few others from dance class joined them. “Oh. My. God.”
“Now, we all know you think you’re a great dancer, but I think you’ll be surprised.” Ryan raised a brow, and Em started laughing.
When ‘Bang, Bang’ started, she roared with laughter. They all stood legs apart, knees bent a little, hands on hips, and began to dance, Em was hysterical, they were ridiculous, dorky, but totally into it, and amazing.
When Ryan came right up to her and stood over her lap, she covered her eyes, but peeked through, unable to keep herself together. They all did a little turn as they moved as a group, being silly with serious faces. They stopped in unison, and everyone screamed and cheered. Em hugged everyone, and the music started in earnest, it was a hard act to follow, but a crowd made a go of it. Lexi and Alex gave it some, Dan and grabbed his boyfriend, Simon, even Lewis and Ben danced.
It grew late, people began to leave, and it had been a long day. Lexi had her arms around Em, Ryan with them, and Alex was doing her best to kiss him, laughing.
“Ryan, it’s okay, these two reprobates won’t hurt you, you know it’s their fault I am the way I am, right? They corrupted me.”
“In that case then.” He dropped a kiss on each of her girls’ cheeks and shook their hands. “You have my eternal gratitude.”
“I’m impressed,” Lexi smirked, “you must have something about you seeing as she hasn’t broken you.” She gave him a once over with her eyes, and he shook his head.
“It’s been close.”
They burst out laughing, and he blushed. Lexi peered around.
“So who am I going to have some fun with? Him.” She pointed at one of Ryan’s friends.
“Him? Really?” Em asked. It was the slightly leery guy from the pub that always drooled over Em.
“I think I might fuck him until his dick falls off. Teach him a thing or two.” Lexi smirked, said goodbye to them, and strutted over to the guy, who in seconds was up against a table, tongue down Lexi’s throat.
“Poor fucker.” Alex shook her head. She and Angie left for the hotel.
It was eleven when they made it home, house quiet.
“It’s still early.” Ryan looked his wife over.
“And we have to get up at the crack of fuck.”
“We can sleep on the fight.”
“Oh really?”
“Really.”
She smirked at his tone.
“Besides, I have the overwhelming desire to fuck my wife.” He kissed her, walking them to the bedroom.
He unpinned her hair carefully, unzipped her dress and edging it down, he kissed her stomach. She ran her fingers through his hair as he took off her underwear, leaving the stockings until last.
He ran his cheek over the silk and placed little kisses at the tops as he undid them, inching them down. He still had his jacket on as he stood.
He gathered her into his arms; she loved the feeling of his clothed body against hers. She pushed his jacket down, and he smiled into her mouth. He had waited so long for that moment, for her to be his wife, to be inside her the first time after they were married.
Having each other meant that the days when he couldn’t bear to wear his feet were okay, Em was there for him, and on the days when her anxiety got the better of her, he was there for her; they were stronger together.
He was silent, holding her eye, and he settled between her legs, lifting one of her legs to his shoulder, and eased into her. He marvelled at how flexible she was, he relaxed at the sensation of her tight heat and savoured her. It was a deeply connected desire, giving to each other, leaving them sated and loved.
He was home.
