  “Yes.”

Carter drew a path of lubricant from her breasts to her mouth and traced the slick, fruity liquid along her bottom lip. Her tongue flicked out and licked his finger as Braden connected the paddle with her rear. Summer moaned, the subtle vibrations zinging through his finger straight down to his cock.

“That’s good to know, angel. I’ll enjoy licking all of this off.”

  * * * *

Summer was a splitting mess, following Carter’s finger with a quiet whimper as it slipped from her lips. She licked the lube from her lips, giving into the strong pull of Braden’s arm hooked under her hips. Her nipples burned from Braden and Carter’s tease, the air breathing a cool kiss against the moist lube. Carter’s warm breath caressed her skin, but not once did he actually kiss her. She sizzled from the heat of their bodies. Her rear stung from the leather paddle. Her cunt was a raging fire creeping closer and closer to a mountain of explosives. She anticipated each delectable thwack with the paddle. Braden followed no rhythm, building up her anticipation and leaving her teetering until he delivered.

Fingers gripped her chin in a tender but firm hold, urging her off her elbows and onto her hands. The sweet scent of strawberry mixed with the musky aroma of arousal filled her nostrils.

“Yes or no?” Carter asked. Summer tilted her head slightly. The leather paddle connected with her rear, a low cry fleeing her throat.

  “Answer him, baby.”

“Yes,” Summer said. She didn’t miss the desperation in her voice. “Yes, yes!”

She was rewarded with the thick, slippery warmth of Carter’s dick, and quickly pulled his tip into her mouth. She moaned, suckling his head and drinking the flavor of his juice tainted by the artificial strawberry. She licked and laved, slipping her tongue around his cock, wetting him as far down as her throat would allow. Each paddling forced her down his cock, the wide head hitting her throat and slipping back out with the rocking motion of her body. Her ass was on fire, her pussy sopping and throbbing in heated pleasure.

“Aw, sweetheart. Damn that’s great,” Carter said on his deep gravelly voice. Her lips brushed the hand fisting the base of his cock, his fingers still holding her chin, angling her head to take him as deep as she could.

She clung to the small bunch of comforter beneath her hands, suddenly wanting more lead, more freedom to move.

“Nice and pink,” Braden said, flattening his hands against her rear and soothing the aching flesh with slow circles. Summer closed her eyes behind the blindfold, feasting on the velvety hardness filling her mouth.

Carter held her chin and pulled his cock from her mouth.

“No, no. Please, let me have more,” Summer begged.

The mattress sank at her hands, and his deep, hungry kiss sent her spiraling off the last ledge of sanity. Possessive and fierce, packed solid with emotion, Carter’s passion came out full-force. He twisted her onto her back, his muscled body angled over hers. He broke the kiss for a moment to cast her arms above her head and pin her cuffed hands to the pillow.

The chain linking the cuffs grew taut. Carter’s grip on her wrists eased, and when she tried to lower her arms, she realized she was restrained.

Carter’s mouth traveled feverishly down her neck, kissing her skin thoroughly until he reached her breast. Kneading one, he latched onto the other and swirled his tongue around her nipple.

Palms pressed to her thighs and spread her knees wide. Her heels caught in the blanket. A strong arm draped over her leg, the roughened pads of working fingers spreading along her stocking and teasing her bare flesh.

“Oh God, let me come!” Summer cried out, arching into Carter’s mouth, feeding him more of her aching breast.

The hot slide of a tongue licked her pussy and she screamed, bowing off the bed. Sensation drowned her. She grabbed hold of the chain between her cuffs and clung for grounding. The lazy laps from her opening to her clit left her trembling, barely able to fill her lungs before the air rushed out of her. The hot burn in her clit intensified, a separate deft throb coming from deeper within her body pounding.

She tried to close her legs and save the last thread of nerves before she caved beneath the onset of pleasure.

“Damn, ohhh, I have no more control,” Summer panted. So close, that all-consuming eruption was so close.

And like a switch, mouths left her, hands pulled away from her, leaving her squirming on the mattress, on the fritz. She squeezed her legs closed, then let them fall open, rocking and twisting and unable to dim the painful burn in her pussy.

One of her men grabbed her hips and flipped her onto her belly. He slackened her lead on the cuffs, tilted her hips up, and gently spread the globes of her ass. Coolness touched her anus, followed by the delightful pressure as a thick, hard cock eased deep inside her ass. Moans escaped her lips on each exhale. No plug ever readied her for the real thing, but she welcomed the stretch. Her body was alive, humming in response to the immense stimulation.

The cuffs loosened. One of her lovers pulled her upright by the shoulder. Two hands lifted one of her knees up, foot flat to the mattress. Fingers grappled in her hair and gave her head a demanding tug back, exposing her neck.

“He’s mad, baby. So mad he can’t wait to fuck you,” Braden whispered. Summer cooed when his tongue licked her from shoulder to ear. “Are you ready, ‘cause we’re about to give you what you’ve been beggin’ for.”

Braden tilted his hips beneath her, sitting himself deeper in her ass. Summer held her breath, waiting for the moment she would hold Carter inside her body again, share herself with two men whom she loved.

Braden didn’t release her hair when she felt Carter’s cock slip along her seam before thrusting into her pussy.

“Sweet fucking heaven,” Carter growled. He pulled back and plunged deep, sparking her flint into an eruption of body racking tremors. Summer gave into the searing bliss, the throbbing pulse that exploded from her pussy, up and down her body. “Give in, angel. Give in to everything.”

Summer broke, splintered, shattered into whiteness that beat so bright with each thunderous pound of her heart. She held on tight, nails biting into flesh, riding the two men without an ounce of control as abandon sped away. She was burning from the inside out, melting from bone to skin.

Bliss held her tight, wave after intense wave crashing mercilessly against her. She moved with her men, unable to determine back or forth, up or down. When lips crushed to hers, she groaned, kissing and sucking, nibbling like a starved creature needing and damn well taking what she wanted. Someone yanked her hair, cocking her head, and another mouth fed from hers. Braden and Carter plunged into her, filling her, leaving her empty, filling her again until she thought her body couldn’t handle it. Desires pulsed wild and wicked, without bounds.

She was out of control. Braden and Carter were lost. Their tongues demanded more of each kiss. Every fiber was strummed without rest, catapulting her from one orgasm to the next without a break.

Summer threw back her head and let out an unabashed cry. Hands caroused over her, plucking her nipples, gripping her waist, drawing lines of raw flame in their stead.

“Tight, baby. Tight,” Braden gasped. “I can feel Carter fuckin’ your pussy.”

She had no strength to speak, body trembling, sweat matting strands of hair to her neck and face. Heavy breaths blended with a wet kiss beside her ear. She blindly groped for faces, catching both chins, turning them to her, and indulging in the kiss.

Carter stiffened, breaking away from her mouth before a roar erupted from him. His cock swelled inside her, rolling like storm waves as he came. Braden leaned into her back, forcing her down until she lay over Carter. He fucked her from behind, taking her in long, steady strokes. She tingled all over, shockwaves licking her from head to toe.

“Yeah, baby. Squeeze your ass, Summer.”

Braden sank himself completely inside her ass as she squeezed the tight muscles around his cock. His grip on her shoulders tightened and he releas
ed a steady stream of low groans as he unraveled. His body shook against her, tremors that followed the same powerful surge of cum spurt after spurt.

Braden dropped his head to her shoulder, breathing heavily. Beneath her, she listened to the rapid beat of Carter’s heart, absorbing the tender strokes of his fingers up and down her arm. She lost track of time, encompassed by Carter and Braden, soaking in the intensity, the joy she shared with them, together.

Braden moved first, unfastening the cuffs still binding her wrists. She heard the chain clatter to the floor. The blindfold lifted from her face. Carter stared at her, a calm and content veil over his expression. He traced her brow, brushing aside her bangs.

“Did we hurt you?” Carter asked. Summer managed a lazy smile and shook her head against his arm.

“No.” She reached a weak hand back up to Braden’s face. He pressed a tender kiss to her palm.

“We weren’t very gentle,” Braden admitted.

“I loved it. Every minute.” She laughed quietly. “But I’m worn out.”

  “Close your eyes, sweetheart.”

Fatigue swept in. She could see no better time or place to give into the temptation than now, tucked safely between one man who claimed her heart and soul years ago and one man who filled the void when she was left broken.

  Broken she was no more.

  Chapter Nineteen

  Poppoppop.

Carter ducked beneath the canopy as his platoon came under attack. His men crowded behind the Hummer, guns at the ready. Eyes pierced him, silently awaiting orders to shoot or stand down. Two, three, four men. A fifth in the vehicle.

He was missing a man. Where’s Henry?

He choked up, the fist in his chest squeezing tight, robbing him of breath. As the firing ceased, the last plink of bullets bouncing off stone wall and metal, Carter gauged the distance between his position and his men. Henry, where are you?

  “No, Sarge. Don’t!”

Carter ignored the panicked cries from his men, took a deep breath, and lunged toward the vehicle.

He plowed into one of his men and tried to push him back to the safety of the Hummer, but the man didn’t move. Panic threatened to consume him as he straightened up.

Henry smiled, blood staining his gray T-shirt, oozing from the open wound on his neck. His lips were gray-purple, his skin a death white.

“Don’t forget you promised me something, Carter,” Henry said, his voice hollow, surreal. In a heat wave coming up from the sandy ground, Henry faded.

Then the bullets hit, pelting him, throwing him back—

Carter jerked awake, covered in a film of cold sweat. His heart raced, his breaths shallow and desperate. Instinctively, he patted his chest, his stomach, feeling for blood from gunshot wounds.

  Only a dream.

Through the curtains, the night held rein over Ryder. Street lights reflected off the light spray of flurries coming down from black clouds. Carter dropped his feet to the floor and rubbed his hands over his face, wiping away the sweat, the sleep, pulling himself from the lingering remnants of his nightmare.

The smell of desert, metal, and blood faded. He tilted his head and glanced back at Summer and Braden. Both slept peacefully, not having been disturbed by his sudden awakening. With a small sigh of relief, he pushed off the bed and went into the bathroom.

Braced against the sink, he stared at the face in the mirror. Telltale battle scars may have marked his skin, but his eyes held the darker side of his daily battle with posttraumatic stress.

“Still a fucked-up mess,” he murmured, noting the pale line down his cheek, the smaller one over his lip. His chest held their earned marks, but his back took the award, having been torn up after the explosion that should’ve taken his life, not Henry’s.

“Don’t forget you promised me something, Carter.”

That haunting dream voice filled his head. Yes, he made a promise to fix things with Summer when he came home. He was well on the road to making amends and turning everything around for Summer and Braden.

  “I’m not breaking it, man.”

A soft knock broke through his dense thoughts. He turned on the cold water and splashed his face. When he reached to open the door, Summer had already let herself in. The very sight of her mussed from bed play, still dressed in her sexy lingerie, sans heels, and her cheeks a light rose, made all of the bad in his nightmare vanish.

Her long lashes draped over her concerned gaze as her eyes fell to the floor. “I heard you wake.”

“You were sleeping,” Carter said, keeping his voice as soft as hers. He grabbed a hand towel and blotted the water from his face. She folded her arms over her belly and shook her head. When she lifted her gaze to his, the raw concern and suspicion that flickered in her amber-browns belied the timid expression on her face. Carter bunched the towel in his hands and shrugged. “Always were a light sleeper.”

  “You’ve forgotten.”

He chuckled. “No. You appeared very asleep when I looked.”

“You had a nightmare?” She closed the space between them, taking the towel from his hands. “Do you have them a lot?”

“Enough.” With a low breath, he pulled Summer against him, wrapping her in a tight embrace. The feel of her body, solid and warm and real, in his arms dispensed the tension that had grown in his shoulders. He took a deep breath of her hair. “I love you, angel. I didn’t mean to disturb you.”

“I love you, too, Carter.” Her fingers walked over his pec, her head resting heavy against his chest. “I’ve always been here for you, and I’m still here when you want to open up about what happened.”

“Thank you,” Carter whispered, but not even he wanted to face the darkness trapped in his mind when everything that promised him life was tucked in his arms.

  Chapter Twenty

Carter finished pitching the last bundle of hay into the stable. He loosened the packed pieces, making a nice new blanket for the mare when Braden finished conditioning her in the corral. Despite the twenty-degree weather, he knocked his hat up from his brows and wiped the perspiration that beaded along his forehead. The stables were comfortable, but he definitely worked up a sweat from mucking stalls and saddling up the ladies who were on the schedule for conditioning.

Didn’t help matters that he couldn’t get last night out of his head. Summer had felt better than he remembered, tasted far more exquisite, held more passion than he recalled. Braden, dear God, had been amazing.

A tremor snaked through his muscles. He left the stall, sucking in a deep breath to steady the erratic beat of his heart, and brought his equipment to the storage room at the end of the aisle. His eyes had begun to burn from nearly no sleep. He dragged a hand down his face and pinched his chin, trying to wipe away the fatigue. There would be no resting today. His agenda was full in hopes of transferring all of his father’s assets.

Carter leaned the pitchfork against the wall and dropped the feed bucket alongside it. He hung his hat on a hook beside the slop sink and washed his hands, splashed the cold water on his face and head. Water streamed down his neck, slithering beneath his T-shirt, and felt so damn good. Grabbing his hat, he moved over to one of the tack boxes and hopped on top. Maybe a few minutes of shut-eye would help him. That’s all he needed. Sleep was a treasure overseas. He surprised himself with how little his body needed to function.

Carter stretched over the box, tucking an arm under his head. He hooked the heel of his boot on the end of the box, his other leg dangling off the side, and dropped his hat over his face. Closing his eyes, he silently prayed for fifteen minutes of solid sleep to get him through the rest of the day.

The tingle of small electric currents creeping up and down his body drew him from sleep. The overwhelming sense of another’s presence left his skin prickling from an underlying electrical current. A short moment later, he was hit by the strong scent of coffee and a soft knock on the wall.

  “Mornin’?”

Carter tipped the brim of his hat up and s
tared at his angel. Ah yes, she glowed bright this morning, and looked more beautiful than ever.

A cardboard carrier with three cups of coffee rested in her hands. To hell with sleep when he had the best treasure knocking on his barn door. Carter sat up and shifted over, patting the box beside him.

“Hop up, sweetheart,” Carter said. Summer huffed a breath, blowing her bangs from her eyes as she joined him on the tack box.

“Where’s Braden?” Summer pulled one of the paper cups from the carrier and handed it to Carter.

He peeled back the flap and inhaled the brew. “In the corral conditioning a couple of the horses.” He took a small sip, the liquid hot, black, and sweet. “You remember.”

“How could I forget? You’re a coffee fanatic, or were.” Carter caught her small smile even if her head was bowed as she placed the remaining two cups on the box. “Long night?”

He snickered. “You could say that.”

“I didn’t want to pry last night.” Those breathtaking eyes turned up to him and cinched his chest, leaving him momentarily dazed. She traced the small scar over his lip. “Are the nightmares from war?”

“Yes.” Carter shrugged and took another sip of his coffee. “Nothing I can’t beat.”

“Are you gonna leave us in the dark about your troubles?” The underlying twinge of apprehension became apparent in her voice. Carter placed his coffee on the box and took her hand in his.

“Summer, I want you to look at me and hear me good. I love you. I want you back more than anything. I know you’re still holding doubt in that heart of yours, but I want you to know that I’m here to stay. Only one thing can drive me away from Ryder now.”

  “And that is?”

“If you don’t want me.” He drank her in, dark-brown knee-high boots, tight dark-blue jeans, and a beige pea coat. Her honey-brown hair was pulled back in a ponytail, stray strands curling down her cheeks. So different from last night. Carter couldn’t help slipping one of those strands between his fingers. Her hair was silk, like her lips, her skin, everything. “You, angel, will make my ultimate decision. I can’t be in this town, seeing you, and knowing you don’t want me.”
