Into Your Hurricane

“Andrea Jensen,” a medical assistant calls out to the waiting room.
Standing up I head that way with Trent right behind me.
She smiles nicely and holds the door for us to walk through.
“I'm just going to go ahead and get your weight,” she says, pointing to the scale by the wall.
Handing Trent my purse, I remove my shoes and step up.
“125 pounds,” she says marking it down in my chart. “Go ahead and step down. I'm going to get a urine sample from you, is that okay?” she asks.
Nodding, I take the cup from her hand and head in the bathroom. Let the fun begin!
Coming out of the bathroom, I set my sample in the basket marked on the counter.
Stephanie, her name tag reads, leads me to room 3.
“I'm going to get your blood pressure real quick, then I'm going to need you to undress from the waist down and use the sheet to drape over you.”
I look over to Trent to see him looking a little uncomfortable and not knowing what to do with himself. It's actually kind of cute.
“Okay, all set, your blood pressure is good. I'm just going to go and test your sample before the doctor comes in,” Stephanie tells me as she exits.
Sitting here undressed with my boyfriend in the chair, my reality comes crashing down on me. Taking deep breaths in and out, I try to relax while waiting for Dr. Shin to come in. Hearing the paper on the exam table crinkle, I feel Trent slide up behind me and wrap his arms around me.
“Baby, they aren't going to tell us anything we don't already know. Well...actually they will. They will let us know when we can expect to meet our baby and that everything is going to be okay, just like I keep telling you,” he says, kissing my head and swaying me.
The knock on the door startles us both.
The door opens and Dr. Shin walks in followed by Stephanie. “Hello, Andrea, how are you doing? You must be the boyfriend,” Dr. Shin says.
“Yes, I'm Trent,” he says, reaching out to shake his hand.
“I'm doing good, thank you. A little shocked but good,” I say, laughing nervously.
Nodding he pats my leg and walks over to my chart on the counter.
“It appears congratulations are in order, Ms. Jensen. We tested your urine for the pregnancy you were suspecting was going on. It is positive,” he says, smiling.
“What I would like to do now is see how far along you are measuring. We will do that by doing an ultrasound today. I suspect you aren't too far along based on your last menstrual cycle, so we will do an internal ultrasound.” Dr. Shin rolls over a machine. Pulling a long wand out, he rolls on what looks like a condom onto it. My eyes go wide wondering what that could possibly be.
Seeing my face, he chuckles a little. “Okay, Andrea, I'm going to have you lie back and put your legs up in the stirrups here.” He pulls the long metal contraptions down from the end of the bed. “We will be using this fancy gadget, inserting it into your vagina. I know it looks intimidating but it's not so bad I hear,” he says calmly at my raised eyebrows.
Lying back on the table, I place my feet in the stirrups and my hands on my stomach. I look up at the ceiling, not knowing where to look, as he inserts it into me.
Trent reaches over for one of my hands and squeezes. “You got this baby,” he mouths to me.
Turning my head, I smile up at him with a small nervous smile that barely lifts the corners of my mouth. I mouth, “I love you.”
While looking over to the screen as Dr. Shin types things in and moves the wand around, I try and see what could be a baby on there.
Pointing to the screen, Dr. Shin turns to Trent and me. “See that little line there on the screen? That's your baby. It looks like you're measuring about 3 ½ weeks along, which puts your due date at July 2nd. It isn't far along and the reason you probably hadn't missed your period yet,” he says.
Trent squeezes my hand tightly as I wipe the tears starting to leak down the side of my face into my ears and hair.
“We will see more progression when we do another ultrasound around twenty weeks, and there will be some semblance of a baby at that point. Do you have any questions for me?” he asks as he pulls the cart away and helps me sit up.
“Well, I do have just one,” I say.
“I was taking the birth control pills you prescribed to me and I got pregnant. I'm really confused how that happened if I took them like I was supposed to,” I tell him.
Nodding, he looks over my chart. Looking back up to me he asks if I had been sick at all and taken any medications.
Remembering the antibiotics I took when I had strep throat about a month back, I let him know.
“Well that would be how you got to be pregnant, Andrea,” Dr. Shin tells me. He chuckles at what must be the stupid dumbfounded look on my face.
“When taking birth control and antibiotics, the antibiotics will make your birth control ineffective. It basically cancels it out,” he informs me.
My eyes widen in shock. I had no idea that would ever happen, and no one informed me of this, not even the pharmacy that filled both prescriptions. Feeling stupid, I look up to Trent who just smiles tightly.
“Baby, you didn't know, and this wasn't something you did purposely. We are having a baby and I couldn't be happier that I'm having one with you,” he says sweetly, pushing my hair behind my ear.
Stephanie hands me some pictures and smiles. “Here are the first pictures of your baby.”
“Thank you,” Trent and I say in unison as we look at each other laughing.
“Okay, Andrea, I would like to see you back in a few months. Mary will schedule that with you on your way out,” Dr. Shin tells me.
“Until then make sure you are resting, eating, and taking care of yourself. Here is a list of safe medications you can take while you are pregnant,” he says, handing me the stack of information.
“If you have any problems or questions before that, I want you to call me right away.”
Nodding my head, I thank him again and wait for them to leave the room.
“You're going to be just fine, kiddo,” he says, patting my shoulder on his way out.

The way home is quiet as we are both lost in thought.
“Are you hungry? I was thinking we could grab some takeout on the way back to your place and just relax tonight,” Trent says.
“Actually, that sounds perfect,” I tell him smiling.
“Can we get some Chinese and rent a movie or something?”
Looking over to me and grabbing my hand, he pulls it to his lips and lays a sweet kiss on it then drops our hands onto his lap.
“Sounds good to me, sweetheart,” he says, winking.
Sitting back after stuffing myself, I snuggle up next to Trent with a happy sigh. We opted for renting Pearl Harbor on the way home. I can't even believe he has never seen this movie. I remember seeing it when I was younger with my parents, and now I want to see it again being older. My dad had told me this was a movie of history and to understand my freedom in life came at great cost. It's truly a great film and moving from what I remember of it as a child.
Watching Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale, and Josh Hartnett is just beautiful. The chemistry between all of them onscreen is just undeniable. Trent pulls me back with him as we recline back on the couch snuggled up to his side. “I need to snuggle with you like this all I can now, pretty soon this will be much harder to do,” he says, kissing my head.
Lifting my face to his, I kiss his lips. As he kisses me back, the kiss deepens to almost a frantic pace.
Pulling back both of us breathing heavily, I whisper to him kissing his jaw and neck. “Take me to bed, I miss your touch,” I tell him as he moans, tilting his head to my touch.
In one swift move, he stands up and pulls me up with him. Wrapping my legs around his waist, I let him carry me upstairs to my room as I continue my assault on his neck and ear.
Laying me on the bed, he pulls his shirt off and gives me a knowing s
mirk. “Baby, tonight you better not be too tired,” he says as he grabs my hand and puts it to his hardened cock beneath his pants. “Feel what you do to me, never doubt exactly how breathtaking you are.”
Pulling his face down to mine, I thread my fingers through his hair and show him just how much I want him.
BEING WITH ANDREA is one of the best feelings I have ever felt. She wasn't my first and I wasn't hers, but our connection is not to be denied. The feeling of being with her is amazing. Like free falling out of an airplane. So freeing and exciting all at the same time. Never have I felt that with anyone. I need her to know and feel she's it for me. I've been so far in my head with this baby thing and drinking. I need to prove to her I'm the man she needs and wants to raise our child. I don't want her running back to her ex. I know she still has feelings for him.
That means I really need to quit talking to Marissa too and make her understand. Not how sure that will go. It has to be done and soon, before Andrea knows I even have contact with her at all, which makes me a complete shit since I've been playing them both. No more dipping anywhere but here from now on. This baby was a surprise and not what I expected. But now that it's happening...I know I need to save me from myself.
Driving in to the office with a smile that cannot be stopped and a new determination, I pull into Tim Horton's for a coffee to start my morning off. Andrea wasn't feeling well and thought the smell of the coffee grounds was going to make her feel worse when I went to make coffee at the house. Just cracking the lid on the canister had her gagging all the way over at the kitchen table as she ate her English muffin. Damn, that's one hell of a sensitive nose.
Naturally not wanting my baby to be sick, I put it back into the fridge and told her I would grab one on my way in. Pouring her some orange juice, I set it down in front of her, grabbed my bag, and kissed her sweetly.
“Have a great day, babe.” She smiled against my lips. I'm such a shit. Smiling back, I swatted her well plumped backside as she walked past me to the garbage to discard her napkin.
“Hey baby, I was wondering if you'd like to make plans for dinner with my parents tomorrow night. We can lay the news on them,” I asked.
Eyes widening at my question, she got a worried look on her face.
“Baby, my parents love you. Yes, I'm sure they will be shocked, but they will be happy for us, you'll see,” I promised, grabbing her and squeezing her to me. They need to know I'm the man they raised me to be.
She wraps her arms tightly around my waist and rests her head perfectly over my heart sighing.
Nodding her head, she answers, “I'd like that.”
Pulling back to look in her eyes, I saw she meant it by the glimmering home shining back.
“I will call them this afternoon. Maybe we can get my sisters to come too, they are going to flip when they hear,” I told her, smiling wide.
I know she was nervous, heck so am I, but she needed to know we are in this together. Nothing can ruin this day, I'm so happy for the first time in well...ever.

Walking in the door, I head to my desk and drop my bag and coffee. Uncle Henry walks over and claps my shoulder. “Trent, I'm heading out, bud. I have to be downtown for a while today tied up in that case for Ms. Hoover. I'm hoping to settle with her company after her wrongful discharge, but you never know how these things will go,” he says, rubbing his temples.
“No problem, man, just going to get to work on the deposition for Mr. Lee’s case,” I let him know.
“Good man. I will have my cell on silent but only call if you really need me,” he says, turning toward the door.
Sitting down in my chair, I take a long sip of my coffee.
“Oh, before I forget,” Uncle Henry turns around saying.
“I will be having my annual Halloween bash next weekend. Bring that pretty little thing of yours and come have fun. She might as well have a crash course in how we Zitos throw a party,” he says, laughing to himself.
“Yeah, sounds good. I'll let her know later tonight. We can go get some costumes this weekend,” I tell him, taking another sip of my coffee while rocking back in my chair.
Winking he walks out the door briefcase in hand.
My desk phone rings.
“Good morning, thank you for calling Zito and Beck. This is Trent, how may I help you,” I answer mechanically.
“Hello, son, it's Mom. How's my sweet boy today?” she asks sweetly.
“Hi, Mom, I'm doing great. Was actually going to give you a call this afternoon,” I say on a deep breath.
“Oh you were, were you? Is everything alright, my love?” she asks worried.
“Yeah, Mom, everything is great actually. I just wanted to see if you and Dad were available for dinner tomorrow night. Andrea and I would love to treat you guys,” I tell her.
“Well that sounds lovely, dear. I am quite sure we are available. Shall we say around 6:00 p.m.?”
“Yes, 6:00 sounds perfect”
“I will see you then my baby boy.”
“Okay, I love you Mom.”
“I love you too, Trent, honey,” she says, hanging up.
Hanging up with Mom, I get to working on the deposition for Mr. Lee. I need to get a lot done today and maybe I can possibly have some time off tomorrow. Andrea and I need a day together. We both have class tonight, so being able to relax tomorrow just being with my girl is exactly what I need.
Just then my cell rings. Looking over I see it's my sister Amy. Amy and I have always been close, she is my older sister and best friend.
I answer on the third ring. “Hey, sis, how are you?”
Laughing through the line she replies, “Hey, little brother, what's been going on? I feel like I haven't seen you in ages. The kids have been asking when Uncle Trent is coming over to have a tea party again.”
Thinking of my twin nieces always makes me smile. They are five and the spitting images of my big sister.
“Tell Clara and Sarina that I will be over this weekend to see them. Oh, and tell Matt that I will be ready to school him next weekend at Uncle Henry’s party,” I say, laughing.
“Do I even want to know? Never mind, just don't let him get how he got last year. Babysitting my husband is not my idea of a good time.”
“I’ll try but you know that old man wants to be young. I can't help what he does Amy,” I tell her, laughing.
My sister is five years older than me and Addie is two years younger than me. She met Matt in college and have been together since. My nieces are the little minis to my sister in every way. I actually feel bad for Matt living in a house where he is clearly out numbered.
“Addie will be babysitting the girls next weekend, you know she tells Mom and Dad everything. Dad still is convinced Matt is an alcoholic thanks to you and Brad,” she tells me while clearly trying to hold back.
“Don't worry, big sis. We will make sure to keep it low key this year. I'm sure Andrea doesn't want to take care of my sorry ass when I can't walk later on.”
“You remember that,” she says sternly. “I have no doubts that girl could take you down if she wanted to. I sort of love that she has you by the balls.” If she only knew.
Wincing and covering my manhood, I smile at the thought that she is exactly right. “Yeah, that she does. Listen, she won't be drinking at the party. I have something to tell you, but you have to keep it to yourself until I talk to Mom and Dad tomorrow night,” I tell her.
“Trent, what's going on?” she questions frantically.
Letting out a laugh, I decide to put her out of her misery. “We're having a baby. Just found out a few days ago actually.” The sharp intake of breath has me pausing. But when I hear the high-pitched squeal from my sister on the other end, I can't help my face splitting smile.
“Oh my God, T! That's such great news! Wait, you're happy, right?” she asks hesitantly.
“I mean of course, yeah it wasn't planned and was a huge surprise. But we are having this baby, together. She's it for
me, sis. I just have to make sure she never questions that.” Need to talk to Marissa and cut her out- and fast.
“I know, baby brother. I've never seen you look at anyone like they hung the moon. You look at Andrea that way,” she says, sounding like she's choking back emotions.
“She is my sunrise, my setting sun, and the twinkling stars. Andrea Jensen has brought all the colors back into my world. I won't let her go, Amy, I can't...ever.”
“Love that strong is rare. Don't let anyone ever make you believe it isn't real because it hasn't been years. A moment, a real moment, is all you need to know when you've met your heartbeat.”
“When did you get so wise?” I say jokingly.
“Always been this way, you just never cared to hear the words until now.”
She's absolutely right. Other girls were just a good time, something to pass time with and keep the lonely away. Not this girl, my world was most definitely rocked the first time I looked in her eyes, heard her laugh, and felt her touch. I'm just a shit I haven't quite let another go through it all.
“Alright, sis, I need to get back to work here. I'll see you Saturday. Oh and Amy, let Andrea tell you herself, please. I think it would mean a lot to her.”
“Absolutely, we only have so many of these moments in life.”
I'm counting on a lifetime of moments with this girl. Lots of them. She's mine and I won't be letting her go.
MY STOMACH IS so unsettled today, maybe the Chinese we ate last night isn't agreeing with me.
Renee laughed upon seeing me, laughed at me! I don't think the green shade I'm wearing is very funny at all. Ugh, I can't take anything but Tums. That is on the approved list I am allowed to take while pregnant. For any and all ailments, my choices include Tylenol, Tums, or Robitussin. Of course those are so magical they will work, right? Damn, do I hope so.
“Well hey little mama,” Renee says as I make copies in the office.
“Hi,” I say keeping my head down. The ink smell is going to make me hurl. I smell everything so much clearer, it's weird!
