  Stitch whooped, racing off for the food tables. Jerin rushed over to greet his townsmen. Katrina gave Alyra a questioning look, but when she didn’t respond, the Curian followed Jerin and the others toward the feast. A hand resting on her shoulders broke her troubling thoughts. She glanced up at Lotari, his eyes full of concern.

  “See, I told you not to speculate.”

  Alyra nodded. Taking in a deep breath, she settled her heart on two things. First, she’d ask to be involved in the meetings to plan how to bring about Darnel’s downfall. She knew as long as the Dark Ruler reigned, she’d never find peace. Second, she needed to figure out how to get Tarek out of prison. And quick.
