  The End

  FOOTNOTE

In 1974, the men of the USS William M. Wood (DD-715) completed the first heavy-storm rescue of a man overboard in naval history. The rescue and medical evacuation to Cagliari depicted in the last two chapters are a fictional dramatization of that event.

Captain John B. Castano had the con and maneuvered the ship with only flank engine orders. Lt. Richard P. Fiske was the rescue swimmer.

On the Wood, you could spin the main steam stop valve open or closed with a single finger. She was a great ship, every inch a fighter, and her crew never gave up.

  That was the deal.

  To My Readers

Thank you for reading The Marathon Watch. I hope you enjoyed it and will recommend it to your friends. I am a self-published author, and reviews are a powerful way to spread the word about books you enjoy. I want to work fulltime as a novelist and I would be grateful for your support. Please take a moment to leave a review on Amazon or other book site. It is appreciated.

There will be more novels in the Marathon Series. If you want me to let you know when the next novel is released, go to my website at LarryLaswell.com and sign-up for my email list.

Don’t be afraid to email me through my website or comment on my blog. I enjoy meeting my readers and sharing ideas. You can also stay in touch with me on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn or go to my website, LarryLaswell.com. I have four novels in the pipeline, and the easiest way to learn about my new novels is to subscribe to my mailing list or blog RSS feed.

Now that you’ve finished The Marathon Watch, you might enjoy the next Marathon novel Vows to the Fallen, or my quick-read navy satire A Ship-Load of Sea Stories & 1 Fairy Tale.

Thank you again, and good reading.
