  It read, “Robert der Däiwel.”

Suddenly, the speakers on their phones came to life as a high-pitched, tiny voice began to speak.

“Yes, my dear Septet. It was me, Robert der Däiwel, the Supreme Spectral Puppet. Yes, I am the one who is responsible for everything you are discussing. I commend your intelligence. No one in four centuries has discovered the truth until now. Goodness! Aren’t you the cleverest of teenagers?

“At this time, I must speak to my astute Wizardess, Lindsey Marie Godspeed. Lindsey, once again you are correct. My uncle is a human being like you. My adoptive parents were human beings as well. My uncle is immortal. My mother and hateful father were also immortal. I bestowed immortality on the three of them centuries ago.

“Nevertheless, they would die if something ended their lives. My Father ended my mother’s life. Therefore, as you know, I terminated his. Finally, my uncle can die if something ends his life. Consequently, I must protect him. I will not hesitate to destroy anyone who threatens his life or welfare.

“As for you, Chloe Alexandria Brown, I salute you. I commend you on your unfailing drive and resolve as the Sextet and Septet’s team leader. You performed with enthusiasm as did your superb teammates. As I said, in all these many years, no individual or group or individuals has accomplished what you and your teammates have realized as it concerns the Supreme Spectral Puppet. Well done!

“There is something else I must tell all of you before I bid you adieu. Someday, I will revisit your lovely town of Claymore to finalize my revenge. I may or may not return in your lifetimes. Nevertheless, to quote one of my favorite lines spoken by the illustrious Captain Hook of your Peter Pan play, I promise you this.

“I will call on your children’s children’s, children!”

The teenagers stared disconcerted at their phones. Suddenly, Robert’s high-pitched voice came to life on their phones one final time.

“By the way, how do you like my gifts?”

As she glanced around the circle, Diana Jane said in a whisper, “Gifts? What gifts?”

Chloe suddenly cried out with a blood-curdling, piercing scream. She was staring above her head. The others followed her shocked stare. What they saw caused them to freak out!

Seven life-sized, puppety clowns were hanging upside down less than five feet above their heads! They were attached to frayed strands of twine fastened to their ankles! Each of the clown puppets was the spitting image of the Septet members, to include the same clothing he or she was wearing!

Sophia suddenly sprang to her feet. She shouted, “These aren’t real!” She brusquely reached up thinking her hand would harmlessly pass through a hologram. Instead, she had roughly yanked the lifeless red hair of the freckled-face clown puppet that looked exactly like her! An expression of total astonishment appeared on her face. The puppet was real! As she tugged on her doppelganger, all seven of the puppety clown bodies exploded at the same time without a sound.

Fine particles of reddish-purple liquid reeking of rotting flesh spread far and wide in the warehouse and onto the upturned, shocked faces of the Septet! Sophia received the worse of the spray. Without warning, a high-pitched squeal of sickening, horrifying laughter echoed from wall to wall within the warehouse.

The seven terrified, shrieking teenagers sprinted to the double doors as quickly as their legs could move.

  Meeting adjourned.
