The others had gone pale but still didn’t say anything.

Zath lengthened the wound, making it grow from Kate’s shoulder all the way across her collar bone, Kate had tears rolling down her cheeks.

Julie slowly eased her ring off of her finger and placed it on the floor, she retreated to the top of the spiral staircase and waited.

Kate let out another scream and Julie launched into action. She tore across the terrace at full vampire speed. She slammed into Zath and wrapped her arms around him, his concentration lost the blade of fire vanished but Julie didn’t stop until they both neared the edge of the terrace.

“What are you-“Zath began but he didn’t get to finish his question as Julie sent them both tumbling over the side.

As she fell Julie’s gaze was drawn to the golden light that was creeping over the horizon but she didn’t let Zath go as the light touched them both and Zath cried out as his skin began to burn transforming from a red to a burnt black.

Julie looked at her own arms and found smoke trialling behind her. She had done it. The Keepers were safe. The humans where safe. Zath was no more. The world would not erupt into war.

Rome, I’m on my way Julie thought as she too began to burn and fade into nothing more than ash.
