Her hands came up and stroked his hair. Lena had been upset when she'd learned that his death was bound to hers. She thought it was a travesty that one such as him—so long lived, 'so magnificent!’—should risk immortality in case of danger to her.

But she didn't understand. All those years by himself, Drekk learned to live by a code; he’d earned respect, honed his abilities, built a better future for all dragonkin. But it was all to make himself worthy of her. So that he could be the best mate to her that he possibly could be, and the best father to the child she would give him.

Being blessed with your own dragonheart was an honor beyond everything. Be it only for an hour or a turn of the moons, Drekk would have given everything to be given this gift. Most dragons would say the same.

Having her share his soul—he felt young again. Full of wonder, hope and possibilities. The black rages and foul hopeless moods that once clouded his mind were a very distant memory.

But Drekk would not forget them. They needed to be remembered so that other dragons, possibly even his own son, could be made wary and know not to lose hope. Hope that through the eons, they would find someone who was as right for them as his Lena was right for him, down to the very soul.

Drekk also knew Lena felt inadequate and didn’t consider herself his equal. But ever he would thank the Eternal Flame that she was given to him. He lived for her laughter, her touch and her innocent and true affection.

Going into his mind wasn't something she was comfortable with. She said his mind felt alien and intimidating.

But one day while making love, he’d shared a part of himself with her. His soul. The truth she had seen had convinced her and she was reconciled to the fact that their lifeforces were linked.

One request from her after that had been that she be trained to defend herself. Drekk had acquiesced. While the hunters were no more, there were other dangers in the world it was wise to be prepared for. Having magical powers beyond compare did not mean anything unless she was trained to use them. So they worked on her abilities every day.

"I love you, Drekk." Lena’s serious eyes gazed into his. Drekk pulled her down to sit on his knee and pressed his lips to hers tenderly.

You know I am yours, heart and soul, little one.

His gaze devoured her. "I want to paint you like this," he breathed.

  "You can paint?"

"Yes. Will you wear these for me and sit for me?"

  She blushed. “Of course."

"My brave little one. Let me thank you."

Placing her on the carpet, a fur blanket now under her, Drekk spread her open on her back and began to worship her. It was a while before he was done with tasting her all over. By then, she was limp and sated with coming just the way he liked her.

Seeing her come to pleasure made Drekk frenzied and yet satisfied something deep within him. He craved to have her reach that peak again and again, each one higher than the prior. To see her broken apart and begging satisfied something elemental in him.

If given a choice, Drekk would spend all day simply making her come.

Of course, he had spent several days doing just that, exploring the limits of her body, which to his joy never stopped meeting his demands. His Lena was a delight to him and not just her body.

He planned to take her to visit the Eternal Flame soon. While dragons did not have a tradition of marriage, all dragons took their dragonhearts to the Flame to be blessed after they joined. He wondered what gifts his little thief would get from the Flame.

Picking Lena up, he carried her to the bathroom inside their chamber and gently washed and dried her. Dressing her in an outfit of a belted tunic and pants, he took her up to the deck of the boat.

Drekk shifted to his dragon shape and urged her on to his back.

Ready for an adventure, little one?

Lena climbed on and hugged the rise of his long neck. "With you? Always,” she said.
