“I’m going to have a shower, you get up first,” I argue.

She sighs and gives in, then shuffles to the edge of the bed. I take a step forward. The rise and fall of her chest, forces my heart to skip a beat. Whatever Lola does to me, I want more. I need more. I take another step toward her. She places her hands beside her thighs on the bed. She bites her lip again, this time she doesn’t look up until I cup her chin with my hand and lift her head.

“Like what you see?” I whisper.

Lola’s eyes meet mine. For a moment, her expression is blank. Unreadable. She opens her mouth to speak, then closes it. She takes both my hands in hers, and finally she stands. While staring only into my eyes, she says, “Yes.”

Her heavy breathing sends a wave of frenzied desire through my veins. My muscles tense at her touch, and when her hands find my biceps, she tightens her grip and her eyes blaze with passion.

I suck in a breath while I shudder with anticipation, then I lean down until my lips are barely touching hers. In that moment, I’m consciously aware of the air surrounding us. Lola’s need, her arousal, and her longing desperate sigh threatens to expose me. She’s on the verge of bringing me undone with nothing more than her own ardent desire.

She meets my gaze, and in a breathless whisper she pleads, “Please… Belial, I wa—” she hesitates.

Silence hovers and the air grows thick. Amid the silence there’s a maelstrom of thoughts and emotions rushing through my mind. I push her back until she’s on the bed, lying beneath me. She writhes, vulnerable and exposed as I whisper against her lips, “Want you.” I don’t wait for a reply.

She arches her back and my hand slides under her waist as I press my lips to hers. Her hands soften and glide up to the back of my neck where she threads her fingers through my hair and kisses me greedily. Each thrust of her tongue is met with my own fervid kiss. When she rocks her hips toward me, I’m consumed by the taste of her lips on mine, and the decadent scent of her arousal.

Breathing heavily, she caresses my body with her hands as though she has a dire need to leave no part of me untouched. I roll to my side taking her with me, our lips never part.

My hand glides cautiously over her breast where I stop to cup it in my palm. The thin cotton tank top covers her breasts, and through it her nipples become tight, firm buds beneath my fingers.

I need more of her. I squeeze her breast and rub my thumb over her nipple causing her to gasp. Her back arches again, and I let my hand wander further until it stops between her legs. Lola drops her knees to the sides and raises her hips. I rub my palm over her soft lace underwear. I’m forced to stop kissing her when my breath is caught in my throat, and I find myself dangerously close to losing control.

I clamp my eyes shut and focus only on Lola as I push her lace underwear to the side, and dip my fingers inside her soft, wet core.

“Oh, god, please,” Lola rasps. “Please don’t st—”

My cock is pulsating, and each movement of her thigh rubs against it and sends yet another intense surge of desire through my body. I need to fuck her. NO! I tell myself.

“Won’t stop,” I whisper against her cheek, as I slide my fingers in and out in a slow, gentle rhythm. She moves against my hand, bucking her hips toward me, begging me not to stop while she fists my hair and pulls my head down to hers to smother my lips in frantic kisses.

A minute later she’s moaning again and begins to throb around my fingers. I slide them in deeper until she’s trembling. When she reaches the climax, she begins to pant in shallow breaths causing her entire body to shudder against mine as she cries out in pleasure.

When she stills, I slide my fingers out and wrap my arms around her waist to pull her into me. She breathes heavily against my cheek and her heart pounds against my chest.

Mine is still hammering from her touch. For the first time in my life, I’ve not needed, nor wanted my own pleasure. Having Lola in my arms right now in this moment, is enough.

Heaven has done something to me, and I will never forgive myself if I break Lola’s heart. I tuck a strand of hair behind her ear and press my lips to her cheek. The realisation hits me like a punch to the stomach.

I am in love with Lola Thorne.

Lola Thorne has been searching for answers for most of her life and has finally discovered her dreams are in fact real. With a new-found confidence, and the knowledge she’s more than just another mortal, Lola realises she has the ability to restore Arcadia to its former glory, and close the gates of Hell.

In book two of the Untamed series, Untamed: Angel Heart, Lola finds herself in Heaven, where she discovers she’s not only an angel, but Belial’s bond. There, she also discovers she’s the only one with the power to stop Hades releasing his demons and destroying mortal earth, and the heavens.

Through pain and turmoil courageous hearts are born.

“Maybe you should wait,” I say, sensing her hesitation.

She shakes her head. “I have to,” she tells me, although her hands are shaking. She lifts the edge of the envelope seal and slides her finger across to open it. She takes out the letter and reads it out loud. Her voice trembles as her eyes follow the words on the crisp white page,

  “Lola,

You’ve been gone for over a week now, I hope you’re somewhere safe. If you get this letter it means you’re home, and I hope I’m here with you as read these words. We were only children when you came into my life. The children’s centre was my only home and the day you arrived, you saved me. I had given up hope of ever finding a friend. You took my broken pieces and gathered them up with your own two hands. You showed me how to make rainbows from shattered glass. You told me stories about angels with feathered wings who would come to you at night and save you from the demons who wanted to lead you into the darkness. You shared your dreams with me, and I never once believed they were real. Lola, I believe you now. I saw what you saw. They’re all real and I will spend the rest of my days searching the world for you, and with you, because I know if it was me, you would never give up. I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you needed me, I will make it up to you and we will find the answers you were searching for.

  I love you, Lola, Cress.”

“She knew,” Lola says. “She knew about the demons, and the angels, how?” she asks.

  “I don’t know,” I admit. “I will find out,” I promise.

I sit back on the sofa and pull her into my arms where she wriggles around so her back is pressed hard against my chest. She puts her hands over mine and runs her fingers over the scars on my forearms, stopping to feel each one. Perhaps she’s committing them to memory because she knows I may not return. I lean down and press my lips to her head, taking in the sweet cherry scent of her hair.

  “Lola,” I whisper.
>
She stretches her legs out. “Hmm…” She continues tracing my arms with her fingertips, every touch sets my frayed nerves on fire, my body tingles in places it never has before and my stomach coils in knots. I need to say it. I need to tell her.

“I—” The words are on the tip of my tongue, frozen in place because of a lifelong fear of love, commitment, and hope.

I must say it. “I—” I close my mouth again. I can’t say the words out loud. Instead I tell her, “I will fix this, we can work it out, together.”

She looks up at me over her shoulder. “Do you really think we belong together, Belial?” she asks.

I kiss her head and she draws her knees up as I tighten my embrace.

  “Yes,” I say.

Her fingertip follows the swirl of flames tattooed on my forearm.

“Do you really have to go back to the Underworld?”

“It’s the only way to ensure Hades doesn’t kill you,” I remind her. “I’ve called for Bastian, he’ll stay here in Angel Bay with you while I’m gone, or you can go back to Heaven.”

She gets to her knees and turns around to face me with her hands on her thighs.

“Belial, I… want—” She stops and bites her lip. I sit up and take her hands.

  “What do you want?”

She shakes her head. “I… ah, it doesn’t matter.”

I exhale and focus on her mind, her thoughts, and her feelings.

I want you. Is all I hear.
