“Warren,” she wrapped her arm around his waist. “What’s on your mind.”

I’m glad the case is put in the cold case file.

She loved that he was able to talk to her without saying a word. The more he practiced, the stronger it became. And his hair was growing out too. It was shoulder length now. She couldn’t wait to see it down his back as it had been in her dream.

“You can’t move it to the closed case section, but I guess at least it won’t be an ongoing issue anymore.”

Right. He smiled down at her.

She frowned. Warren had been right, she had called to him once before and he had heard her. She wanted to do it again. Stubborn didn’t begin to describe her personality trait. What do you say we make a little Warren? She smiled brightly. He stopped walking, looked down at her. Had he heard her?

“Or a little Daya,” he kissed her lips.

  “You heard me?”

  “I heard you,” he smiled.

“I did it. I actually did it.” She nearly jumped into his arms as she wrapped her arms around his neck. “Now I just have to make sure I can keep from sharing everything I’m thinking with you.” There were some thoughts she would want to keep private.

He grinned. “I won’t teach you how to do that. I think this could be a great advantage for me.”

She slapped his shoulder. “I’m an attorney,” she stated. “I never lose a case.”

“I’m a detective,” he mirrored her tone. “I have my ways of winning the end game.”

She laughed. Here they were, back at square one with their flirtatious banter. She missed this, missed them. He was back, and she couldn’t wait to see where they would go next—she didn’t care where they went really, just so long as they were happy, healthy and together.
