‘No way!’ said Chloe, shaking her head.
‘I’ll do it,’ said Annabelle, stepping up to the microphone. As she looked out at the audience she had butterflies in her stomach. But then she saw her mum and Uncle Bob, looking proud.
Uncle Bob’s smile was so wide it almost stretched around his head! And in front of them was Nic. Suddenly Annabelle didn’t feel so nervous.
‘On behalf of the Angels,’ she said, ‘I would like to say thanks for this award.’ She looked at the others, and they nodded encouragingly. ‘I really didn’t know if we were going to win this,’ Annabelle admitted. ‘I mean, all the other teams were really good. Especially in the performance. The Thunderbolts’ band was cool.’
‘Hey, what about the Devils’ rap?’ called a voice.‘Those boys are really funny.’ It was a high voice, but it was still obvious that it was Luke, pretending to be a girl.
Annabelle laughed. ‘Yeah, even the Devils were good,’ she said. ‘It’s great winning this award and I can’t believe our names are actually on that plaque. But the best bit of Team Terrific was being part of the Angels. We are a great team.’
Everyone clapped as Annabelle walked back to stand with the others. Bonnie seemed to have found her voice again. ‘Awesome speech,’ she said, hugging Annabelle.
‘I meant every word!’ said Annabelle.
The six girls looked at each other happily. They would all remember this moment for the rest of their lives!
Annabelle held out her hand. ‘Angels forever?’ she asked.
The other Angels piled their hands on top of hers, and then yelled out together, ‘Angels forever!’
