Prince of Fire

One of the men stepped up to the door and opened it. He was huge, towering over her by at least one foot, maybe two. His arms were thick, shoulders impossibly wide. If he didn’t play football for a living, he had missed his calling. “Hello.” His voice was super deep. Uber sexy.
“Hi. Um. That’s my grandma.”
His gaze snagged hers for a split second, and something crossed over his features for the briefest moment. Then he stepped aside. “Come in.”
“Oh, there you are, Erma,” her grandma said. “Why are you knocking on your own door, dear?”
“Erma?” the man at the door echoed.
“No, actually my name is Gina. I moved in with my grandmother a few weeks ago. She has Alzheimer’s. They adjusted her medicine again, but I don’t think it’s right.”
“Hmmm,” he responded, moving closer.
A little shiver of awareness swept through her body. “Grandma, how about we head home now? I’m sure these men have other things to do.”
Her grandmother pursed her lips. “I’m not leaving yet. The party just started.”
“Grandma, please.”
Her grandmother shook her head. “Why are you being so selfish? There are five of them, and look, there isn’t an ugly one in the lot. I tell you what, I’m not selfish. I’ll share. You can have two and I’ll have three…” Grandma reached for the guy closest to her, who had long silver-blond hair, a stunning face that invited a girl to stare, and a to-die-for body. “Troi’s my first pick. Your turn.”
The chosen, Troi chuckled.
“Go ahead, Erma. Don’t be a ninny. Pick,” her grandmother goaded.
“You called me a ninny?”
A sexy rumble came from the guy behind her, the sound making her feel all warm and soft inside. It was most definitely a nice sensation, one she hadn’t felt in way too long.
Shaking off the pleasant quivers, Gina rushed over to her grandmother, taking her hand to coax her out of her chair. “Grandma. That’s not how it works.”
Grandma smacked her hand away. “Fine. If you’re not going to pick then I’ll go again. I’ll take him. Cyr.” She pointed over Gina’s shoulder and Gina twisted to give the scrumptious guy behind her an apologetic smile.
Cyr didn’t look offended. Then again, she doubted he would be offended, since she guessed he hadn’t heard her grandmother. His gaze was glued to her ass.
Ohmygod. Gina jerked upright.
In her haste to get dressed, she’d thrown on the old pair of shorts she’d kept from college. They were comfy for lounging around the house, and handy for cleaning, since she didn’t care if they got bleach splashed on them or grease smeared over them.
They were ugly.
They were worn.
And they were short.
Very short.
Clearly, obscenely short, particularly when she was bent over.
She yanked on the back, and his gaze snapped to hers. Slowly, a smile pulled the corners of his mouth up, and her head got a little spinny. She threw her arms forward, bracing herself against the chair her grandmother was still stubbornly seated in.
Wow, was he intense.
Gorgeous.
Sexy.
It had been too long since she’d been touched by a man. Held by a man. Even looked at by a man.
Did she really need to rush out so quickly?
“Cyr, come on over here and rub my shoulders, will you? I’ve got a nice treat for later, if you’re a good boy.” Grandma waggled her eyebrows, and Gina’s stomach did a little flip.
This was getting disturbing.
“Okay, that’s enough.” Gina took her grandmother’s hand more firmly this time. “These men have…work to do now. To get ready for the party,” she lied, giving Troi, her grandmother’s first pick, a pleading glance. “We’ll come back later when they’re ready for us.”
Grandma twisted to the right, “You mean the party hasn’t started yet?”
Troi—thank God!—played along. He shook his head, a very believable expression of regret spreading over his face. “I’m sorry, sweetheart. The party doesn’t start for several hours.”
Gina mouthed “Thank you!” as she helped her grandmother to her feet. Slowly, she led Grandma toward the French doors, thanking Cyr when he opened them for her once again. “We’ll see you later, gentlemen. Thanks.”
“Our pleasure,” Cyr said, a haunted, wicked smile still on his face.
“Who? What?” another man said from the far end of the room.
What a voice. Smooth and rich as crème brulee. Gina had to turn to look. She just couldn’t resist.
Mmmm. She was glad she hadn’t.
He was every bit as big and muscular as Cyr, and equally stunning. His hair was a riot of damp, heavy waves that fell to the tops of his well-formed shoulders. He had piercing eyes, even at a distance, and the most amazing face. The perfect combination of hard, firm lines and interesting angles.
“This is Gina and you know Isobel,” Cyr said.
“Oh yes, I know Magus,” Grandma said saucily. “But this here isn’t Gina. This is Erma, my friend. She lives in this…house? Wait a minute. What are you boys doing in Erma’s house?”
“It’s nice meeting you.” Gina gently pulled her grandmother toward the open door. “I think I’d better get my grandma home. She’s a little confused,” she whispered to Cyr.
Cyr’s gaze slid to one side for a split second before returning to her face. “It was nice meeting you too, Gina. Very nice.”
A very unsettling energy buzzed between them for a split second. She cleared her throat and waved at the rest of the men, standing behind him. “Sorry for the intrusion.”
Gina realized as she walked her grandmother back to her grey and white brick ranch what a strange, almost surreal moment that had been. There was something about that man, the one her grandmother had called Cyr. He was attractive. No doubt about it. But there was more. A connection she hadn’t felt with a man in a long time. Same with that other one, Magus. How strange, that out of a room full of beautiful men, some more gorgeous than others, those two had stood out from the rest.
A part of her wished she might have the opportunity to explore what that connection meant. Another was relieved. The shadows she’d glimpsed in their eyes told her they weren’t exactly the quiet, docile gentlemen they appeared.

Brett's apartment wasn't exactly your typical bachelor pad, though it wasn't nearly as showy as the car he drove. The furnishings boasted simple lines. The colors were muted -- tans, browns. They gave her an instant feeling of calm tranquility. She felt safe.
"This is very nice," Sylvie said
as she followed him through the living room.
"Thank you." He led her down a narrow hallway, pointed to the right. "This is the bathroom." Then he stopped at the first door on the left. "And this is the guestroom. I hope you'll be comfortable here." He pushed open the door to reveal a gorgeous room decorated in a slightly darker version of the living room's color scheme. The bed was covered in rich-looking fabrics and piled high with pillows.
Heaven!
She sat, gave it a quick bounce test. Soft. Just the way she liked it. "How could anyone be anything but comfortable in here? It's nicer than a five-star hotel."
He looked pleased. His smile made her feel all soft and girly and warm. "Excellent," he said, his voice like a low purr.
Oh, how she wanted to rub up against that dangerous feline.
Lulu circled a few times then curled up for a nap in her lap. No doubt it was the heat radiating from certain body parts that inspired her dog to settle there. Her face warming, her heart hopping around in her rib cage like a toddler on a sugar buzz, Sylvie ran her hand down Lulu's back. "Th-thanks."
He stepped out of the room. "You're welcome. If you need anything else --"
"Wait!" Before he got too far, she set Lulu down, hopped off the bed, ran to the door and caught his wrist. Their eyes met and she swore someone had cranked up the heat to ninety. "No, I mean thank you. For everything. I haven't been exactly cooperative tonight. I jumped to all kinds of conclusions and suspected the worst --"
"You were frightened."
"Yes," she heard herself whisper as she stared at his mouth. Those really were the most amazing lips she'd ever seen on a man. She wondered what it would take to convince him to kiss her.
Suddenly, she wasn't holding his wrist, he was holding hers. He pulled and she fell against him. She gave a shocked squeak when he looped an arm around her waist and turned, stepping forward until her body was sandwiched between the hallway wall and his amazing body.
What a wonderful place to be! Sweet, hot desire pulsed through her center in rhythmic waves.
He lowered his head, and her insides broke into a cha-cha. "I don't know what it is about you. I can't... dammit, I can't resist." His mouth came down on hers in a crushing kiss. His tongue pushed at the seam of her lips until she parted them. Then it stroked and tasted and took.
