Botched Proposal (Pierson Family Values #0.5)

“You did?” The question came from both his mother and Serenity as well.
He turned to acknowledge the question and Lorna gasped. Eric heard her quick steps as she fled the house muttering the entire time. Closing his eyes, he took a breath. When he opened his eyes again, Serenity was no longer there. Apparently, she’d bolted out the side door that led to the garage, if the open door was any indicator.
His mother didn’t look too happy with him. He wasn’t too happy with himself. Shaking his head and running his fingers through his hair, he made his way to the porch in time to watch the cars that held both Lorna and Serenity, separately, within them. Sometime throughout the morning, Serenity’s car must’ve been dropped off and she must’ve loaded it while he was busy in the kitchen.
What. A. Fucked up. Mess.
“That was a regular shit storm of epic proportions. Couldn’t have handle that any worse if you tried, Eric,” he said to himself as he continued to watch the cars go, all the while wishing he could be in one of them.
The car that he’d want to be in would probably surprise most but not those that knew him well enough to know his heart.
“Way to go, bro. I thought I was a world-class blunder-head. It would seem you’ve got me beat on that one. Question is, which one of those beauties you’re going to go after? On one hand you have heavenly angel beauty in the Victoria Secret model that doesn’t want children ever but is willing to travel the world with you everywhere you want to go. On the other hand, you have Serenity.”
Eric waited for his brother to continue as he had when he listed the attributes for Lorna. At first, he thought his brother was gathering his thoughts before speaking. When he turned to give Jamie a glare for making him wait, he realized he was alone in their father’s old office.
Running his hands over and through his hair, he released a long breath. As usual, his brother was right. There was no need to list everything that Serenity was. She was everything all in a neat and excellently structured package.
Serenity was pregnant with his child. A ready-made family just waiting for him to step into his role was waiting for him. She was willing to travel but it had to be organized and structured. The capacity of love that she held in one little pinky was more than he thought Lorna could even dream of handling. Both were adequate lovers. What was he saying? Adequate could never be used to describe who and what Serenity McAdams brought to the table ever.
Serenity McAdams represented the structure and definition of the future Eric greatly desired. Lorna is the representation of the future that Eric always dreamed of having.
Jamie had one portion of his statement wrong. The question wasn’t which female to go after. It was a little deeper than that, a bit more complicated as per usual when dealing with anything in his life.
The question was which future did he want to grab hold to and never let go of? The all too important question was going to take more time than he had that night. Finishing off his brandy, he stood and said farewell to the office his father and worked hard to get set just the way that he wanted it.
Eric was going to miss the place. Some of the pieces that he’d created would be sent to his home in a few days. He and the rest of his siblings had decided the pieces they wanted to keep for themselves. The plan was to move their mother into a two-bedroom townhouse not far from the estate. Clare and Nate would move their family to the estate and convert the childhood bedrooms that weren’t needed for their little crew into guest rooms.
Eric had overheard a conversation between the two and the possibility of adding another child to their five-person unit after this child was born. Clare wasn’t opposed to it but she told him that it was going to be their last. Nate simply chuckled and kissed her. That was Eric’s cue to get the heck out of dodge. He’d had enough of hearing his siblings’ sexual excursions growing up in this house.
It was nice it was still going to be in the family. Smiling to himself, he said goodbye to his family and headed out. It wasn’t the best Christmas. It probably wasn’t the one that any of them wanted to remember but it had been a good visit with his family.
Now all he had to do was figure out what in the hell he wanted to do with his future.
Pulling out his phone, he made the most important call of his lifetime.
“Montgomery, I am going to need the plane tonight. I’m going after my woman. I have some extravagant begging to get her back. I’m going to coordinate with Lucille to see what kind of window I have for this before the next project meeting.”
Eric climbed into his car as he his phone chimed.
“Sir, do you have a destination in mind? How deep in are you or should I say how much did you botch things up?”
He and Montgomery had been friends for too long if that was his question.
“Let’s just say I might have to purchase her a home, car, and a few jewels to start.”
The man’s rough and full laugh flooded the interior of the car from the speaker of his phone. it made Eric smile.
“I’ll be ready, Sir. Lucy is already on her way. Marie said that she just called her since neither of us responded to her text.”
Eric looked down at his phone as he turned the corner away from his family’s home. The two of them hadn’t been on the phone for longer than five minutes. The woman had the patience of a flea. She moved at a faster pace than Eric’s brain could compute most of the time.
“That woman is efficient. I sent her a message telling her where I was heading, my plans, and the fact that I was calling you to make arrangements. She’s already packed and on her way to you. What if I’d changed my mind?”
That earned him another laughing response from Montgomery.
“Screw you, Monty.”
“You’re kidding, right? You’re not the type to vacillate on anything. Even if it’s the wrong choice. Once the decision is made you’re the one that sticks with it and makes it right. That’s who you are, buddy. I’ll see you when you arrive. I’m sure you’ll fill me in once you arrive.”
“Be there in five.”
Yeah, he’d fill his friend and his executive assistant in when they were all together. This was a major change that was going to have an effect on them as well. Plus, he needed their opinion on how to fix his fuck up. Too much was at stake to have him take lead on this.
This proposal was the one that was going to set his life course. Three heads working on it was definitely better than one and they would ensure there would be no more “botching” on his part.
