Patty nodded and reached over to squeeze his arm. He noticed the keys.

Quinn gathered her purse to her side and walked to the door, leaving them to their privacy. “Please enjoy it,” she said. “It's a wonderful home. I know you'll be happy here.” She paused and looked around. “It’s just not a good place for me.”

Patty nodded, but didn't get up.

Quinn let herself out, walked to her car, and whistled for Retro. He came bounding around the corner of the house. “Come on buddy,” she said, opening the rear door of her SUV. He hopped up into the giant carrier that took up the entire back seat. “Let's get out of here.”

The day was bright and hot over her head as she backed out of the driveway and turned toward the sun. She never wanted to see winter again.

  SCAPEGOAT

ELI GUNN DOESN'T RUN. He didn't run from his broken childhood, he didn't run from his teenaged mistakes, and he didn't run from the cops on that blazing summer night ten years ago. He’s fresh out of prison and he may have found a girl who could put up with him and the new quiet life he leads. Things are looking like they might turn out all right.

That is, until the girl disappears without a word or a trace. Faced with a backwoods religious cult that has a tendency to kill off its flock in the name of God...well, Eli's still not running, but now he wants revenge.

  THE GOOD WIFE

BILL LANDRY IS THE master of his home and land. He’s never faced anything that he couldn’t crush beneath his wide size twelves or put down with a shot from his rifle. Nobody crosses Bill, including his wife Martha.

Of course, she doesn’t have much choice, especially when a hunting accident leaves him home-bound and full of rage. He’s becoming more vicious by the day, turning on her and anyone else who ventures too close to their mountain home. She’s trapped there with him, and the more deranged he grows, the more she’s sure she’ll never get out of that valley alive.
