Neeza said, “You have no idea.”
The mage captain laughed and said, “Well, all I’ll say is good luck with her. It looks like you’re going to need it.”
Mimerck moved to the ship leaving Neeza with Haldirin. They were silent for the first few moments. It was a strange scene. Neeza believed he wouldn’t be coming home from his new mission. Mount Hrithgorn was dangerous, but the current situation was much graver.
Haldirin finally said, “Have a safe journey. Be sure you come back.”
Neeza said, “I will. I know this isn’t goodbye, but I wanted to thank you for all the years of service you have given me. I don’t always show it, but I wanted to just let you know.”
“It is a dubious honor to serve under you, Honorable Neeza.”
Neeza said before turning to get on the boat, “Please, just call me Neeza.”
Haldirin smiled as Neeza got on board. He nodded toward Mimerck to signal for him to move.
Mimerck yelled, “All right! We are about to make the Porsita run in record time. Hold onto your hoods! It’s going to be a ride!”
Mimerck got the ship going as they began to head northeast to toward the Gulf of Dyyros, where the port town of Porsita rested. Although he was scared, he was getting that adventurous excitement back a little. He wanted to apologize to Dyenarus and the others that he wouldn’t be there at the ceremony, but he signed what he needed to, paid who needed their coin, so at least he took care of those that risked their lives for him.
As he looked toward the east, his mind began to race with many questions. Would they get there in time? Would they run into any opposition? Would he be able to finally make things up with his daughter so she would at least give him the chance to make it work? He didn’t know the answers. All he knew was what was in front of him.
Meanwhile, Divi sat looking forward at the sea, filled with anger for the late night wake-up, but excitement for getting out of Myyril for a while. Why did her father want her to join him all of a sudden? If it was another attempt to embarrass her or try and encourage her to learn magic, he would be sadly disappointed. Whatever the reasons, she would find out one way or the other. As her mom would tell her even while on her deathbed: Only time would tell.
