Emersyn’s at the other end of the couch now, by her sister. She’s lying on her back with her feet practically in Everly’s face, but Ev doesn’t seem to care.
I lean up, getting ready to get off Shane when I look at Taralynn and say, “Let’s go start dinner.” I’m getting hungry myself. Ella demands to be fed already, and she isn’t even here yet.
Before I’m off his lap, Shane reaches up, wrapping his hand around my neck. “Later,” he promises, making my heart speed up.
I give him a quick kiss on the lips, biting his lower lip in the process, not being able to stop myself. He loves it as much as I love doing it.
I make a dash for the bathroom, feeling light with joy coursing through me.
Maybe memories aren’t forgotten. Maybe they’re just locked up until the right person comes along with the key to set them free, unlocking glimpses of our past. Or maybe every situation is different. Maybe happiness outweighs what has been forgotten.
I smile as I close the bathroom door behind me. I have the love of my life and our kids. The elation I feel is unexplainable. And we have the rest of our lives to make memories. Memories that I intend to remember and cherish until my last breath.
THE END!
