I thought of him all day. If my mind strayed from its task for a nano second then BOOM all I could see was naked Horaldo. It was bordering on being pathetic. I couldn’t hold out. I thought of Kyle and how happy we’d been. I thought of those last few days in the attic when I had almost begun to forgive him and I could see us being together again. Now all I could see was Horaldo, like a part of him lived within me now. I couldn’t deny that part of me any longer.
I washed and changed into some fresh clothes. One of the fancier frilly tops Horaldo had brought. I combed my hair back and twisted it up into a bun. I ate and then I played spider solitaire on the netbook. The time passed slowly, each minute seeming like an hour.
When he knocked softly on my door at nearly midnight I had to stop myself leaping into his arms. He had with him a wicker picnic basket.
“I thought we could get out of the compound.”
“Is that safe?”
“We’ll stay with the patrol area and I’ll be able to keep you safe my love.”
“Okay,” I said warily. I grabbed a hooded jumper as I didn’t have a decent coat and we made our way outside.
The night air was cool but as Horaldo slipped his hand into mine I felt nothing but heat. I’d never actually seen the main entrance so I was both afraid and curious.
We walked through the sea of caravans and motorhomes, hundreds and hundreds. How they had managed to set all this up in such a short time was a mystery to me. We reached the end of the little makeshift town and carried on down the winding drive. Horaldo pointed to the top of a church steeple in the distance, illuminated by the bright moonlight.
“It’s quite a big church for an estate and houses about hundred vamps.”
“It’s lovely here, the air is so fresh.”
“It was quick thinking on Vincent’s part to get us here and a slight heads up from Kilvire. He knew what was happening shortly before it happened. We migrated everyone here as fast as we could.”
“I still cannot believe how well organised you are.”
“We don’t need to bring anymore caravans in, the intake of human survivors has dwindled to next to nothing. We need to concentrate and gathering as much as we can and we continue to research the virus too.”
“You don’t keep any of those… things here do you?” I said nervously. “That always happens in the movies, stupid scientists thinking they can contain the zombies and then BOOM in the next scene everybody is dead.”
“We don’t keep any here.” He laughed. “There’s a prison in Aberdeen that we’ve turned into a makeshift lab. Don’t fret Nila, we wouldn’t risk these humans they are precious. What experiments we do here are closely monitored and there’s no risk at all.”
“You sound so sure.”
We had reached the main gates to the estate and I could see the heavily manned gatehouse. There were at least twenty vampires. They all gave Horaldo a respective nod as we neared.
“Any activity tonight lads?” He said addressing the largest group.
“None at all sir.”
“How many patrolling outside?”
“Just over a hundred sir.”
I sighed with relief. Over a hundred vampires patrolling the surrounding area put my mind at ease. Four Vampires opened the main gate and we were permitted to leave on to the country road. We walked a while on the desolate road. The odd car was abandoned at the side of the road and we met several Vampires on the walk too. They really did have the area on lock down.
We came to a crossroads and veered off onto a footpath at the side of the road. We didn’t walk far until we came to a little picnic area. Horaldo opened the basket and took out a chequered picnic blanket. He laid it in the middle of the clearing and pulled me down onto it.
“Listen.” He whispered.
I did and I could hear… nothing. The night was still and silent. The moon up above was full and large giving us enough light to see and the sky was clear with a blanket of stars. It was beautiful and a perfect setting to take our brief relationship to the next level. Horaldo opened the basket once more and took out a few bits and pieces. A small cheese block and crackers, some crisps, and even a small bottle of wine.
“I didn’t think there was any alcohol in the compound?”
“We aren’t in the compound.” He winked.
“What about you? Don’t you have anything to eat, I mean drink?”
“What you gave me in the helicopter was enough, I’m good for a few more days yet.”
I looked at all the lovely food I had so missed in the attic, soft herb cheese, poppy seed crackers and wine too. I didn’t want it, I only wanted him.
I reached over and kissed him and as our lips touched something within me relaxed completely. True I didn’t know him and by all rights I should fear him but I just couldn’t, I… I didn’t want to say it aloud but I did, I loved him with every piece of my being and I knew he felt the same way. Horaldo could never cheat on me or fall out of love with me. It didn’t work that way. Horaldo would never leave me for another woman. He would never get the inclination to stray and sleep with my best friend. His soul belonged to me and as scary a concept that was it was all I was looking for with Kyle and never got.
I cupped his face and slid my hand to the back of his neck where I played with his hair at the nape. His skin wasn’t cold, not as cold as I thought it would be. Without breaking our kiss I began to work the buttons on the front of his shirt. He took my cue and lifted the hideous hoodie from my body, briefly ending our kiss to take it over my head. Our lips met again, our bodies ever so closer than before. I could feel my nipples harden in the cool night air. He brought his hand up and worked one of my breast and I was still desperately trying to undo the buttons on his damn shirt.
He sensed my frustration, broke away with a smile and began undoing them himself. He removed his shirt and I gently stroked the part of his arm that had been so savagely bitten by the zombie that night we met. I looked up to see his bare chest, smooth, free of hair and so well built glistening in the moonlight. He was perfect, too perfect to be human, I could see that. I felt inadequate in his presence. Such a beautiful Godly creature such as he shouldn’t be with a mere mortal such I.
I swallowed my doubts and reached out to touch his chest. He seemed content to let me explore and sat back onto his bum putting his legs to the side.
“You are so beautiful.” I whispered. “So perfect.”
“As are you, my love.”
My fingertips met the skin in middle of his chest. The skin was firm, firmer that human. I flattened my palm and traced my hand up to the thick muscle on his shoulder.
“You look puzzled Nila.”
“It doesn’t make sense, how you want me when there must surely be others.”
He brought his hand up and brought me face up to meet his.
“Even had you not been my soul mate, I would still find you a desirable woman Nila.”
“Really?”
“Yes, admittedly I do not do relationships, I never have but vampires rarely form monogamous partnerships with humans. Vincent had fifteen women living with him before Ginetta became his soul mate.”
“Fifteen!” I said in disbelief.
He laughed. “Enough about them, it’s just us, just here and now.”
He met my lips once more and I continued to explore the contours of his chest. I leant further in, deepening our kiss by brushing my tongue against his. I made a bold move and reached for the button of his pants.
“Are you sure?” He asked.
I nodded and the button sprang open.
“You have been sufficiently courted?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Well, no but you can’t really take me to the cinema or bowling really can you?”
“Bowling.”
I laughed because the thought have Horaldo bowling was just plain ridiculous.
“Ok, not bowling but I know I can’t stop thinking about you. It’s driving me insane. I want you so much Horaldo and I don
’t think I can physically hold out any longer.”
He said nothing; instead he gently took hold of the bottom of my top and removed it swiftly. He unclasped my bra at the front and I slipped it off my shoulders. He leant up and urged me onto my back. Once I was comfortable he dipped his head and took one of my nipples in his mouth. I thought I would melt into the blanket with longing. My breasts had never felt such raw pleasure before. While he sucked them gently he worked the button and zipper of my pants with surprising speed and ease. He kissed and licked my flesh while simultaneously removing my pants and knickers. I was naked. He kissed my stomach for a few more seconds and then one of his hands dipped downwards and touched me intimately for the first time. He parted me and found my special spot, I thought I would die. Each stroke sent a jolt of electricity straight through me.
I arched my back as his mouth worked my upper body and his hand worked my pussy. Soon, too soon I felt myself tipping near the edge and I cried out as my body found its release. He slowed his strokes allowing the pleasure waves to wash over me.
He collapsed on the ground beside me and propped himself up on one elbow.
I curled up into him and he reached over, covering me with the edge of the blanket.
“Aren’t you cold, Nila?” He asked softly.
I shook my head and nipped the underside of his chin. He snuggled me in like I was the most precious thing in the world and we lay there for an unmeasured amount of time.
When I had regained my composure I reached up and took his cheek in my hand, urging his face down to meet my lips once more.
“Will you make love to me, Horaldo?”
“I will make the Gods themselves jealous of my love for you Nila.”
He kissed me once more and began to remove his pants. I reached down to touch him as soon as he was as he was naked as me. I was surprised, shocked and aroused by the mere size of his length but I stroked it and felt it stiffen even more beneath my touch. I couldn’t wait to feel it inside me and it seemed Horaldo felt the same. He urged me back once more and positioned himself between my legs. I felt him nudge the tip of his cock inside me and I was more than ready. I hooked my leg behind his back and urged him deep inside me. He was deliberately slow, I fear he thought he might injure me but I wanted the pain of it, I wanted him filling me to capacity.
My breath caught in my throat as he slowly eased inside until his full length was buried deep inside me.
“Are you okay?” He asked, slightly breathless himself.
I nodded, my eyes telling him not to stop. He eased back out and we moaned together.
“Gods above.” He whispered.
There aren’t words to describe the feeling. Sex is too mild a word to describe the unity of our bodies. Every nerve, every cell within me was alive. He began working me at a slow pace and each time his length was in my fully I felt him touch my core and I cried out. I looked into his eyes and then watched in awe and fascination as his fangs slid down. I did the only thing that felt natural. I grabbed the back of his neck and urged him down to feed.
I met some resistance but I persisted and he lowered his head and buried his face in my neck kissing me softly. I was ready for it, I wanted it, I remembered how good it had felt when he had bitten me in the helicopter.
His teeth passed through my skin like butter and with it they brought an unexpected wave of pure pleasure. I throbbed around his cock struggled not to scream my brains out. I didn’t really fancy attracting the attention of patrolling vamps.
I felt Horaldo drawing my blood and each suck sent a new shock wave through my system. He quickened his pace slightly and I let out involuntary moans. I grasped his buttocks and helped him pump in and out of me, urging him to go deeper, faster. I felt an orgasm building inside but this was like nothing I’d ever felt before. As it built it was so intense it was bordering on being painful. I gasped and cried out willing it to pass but never wanting it end. I was stood on the edge of a mental cliff willing myself to jump and when I did, when the pleasure washed over me I couldn’t help but scream. My body arched all the way up so that my chest crushed into his. Wave after wave came each as intense as the next and I heard Horaldo cry out as his left my neck and came himself.
I was wheezing like a forty a day smoker, I couldn’t catch my breath. I felt like I had run a marathon at full speed. Horaldo was also panting a little and I wasn’t even sure he actually needed to breathe.
He rolled off me and wrapped us in the blanket like a cocoon.
“Wow,” I said after I felt I could speak.
“I know… I had absolutely no idea it would be so… so…”
“I know.” I agreed. “Is the top of my head still attached to my shoulders?”
He laughed and kissed my forehead.
“We should head back. Will you sleep with me tonight Nila?”
I nodded and retrieved my clothes and we dressed quickly both of us with stupid grins on our faces. If this was just a hint, a hint of what was to come with Horaldo then hell, I was well on board.
Once we were dressed we sat at one of the picnic benches and I began to devour the cheese and crackers. I was suddenly ravenous. Horaldo poured the bottle of wine, big enough to provide a single glass measure.
It was a deep rich red wine with lots of body and I savoured it knowing I was very privileged to have it. Horaldo seemed to enjoy watching me eat.
“I haven’t tasted about ninety percent of the food available to humans now.”
“Really? What was life like back when you were human? You were Roman yes?”
“I was. My family were merchants. We were neither rich, nor poor. I was the eldest of my five brothers and my future was mapped out for me. I had the pleasure of knowing a woman’s company whenever I needed it and my marriage was arranged to a governor’s daughter, a sweet young virgin and vision of pure beauty. I frequented brothels to fulfil my carnal needs, as did most men at the time, it was as common as nipping to the shop for a pint of milk now.
My favorite was a high-class brothel and the women were like nothing you had ever seen. Trained in the art of pleasure and without the inhibitions of our modern society. One particular night the owner told me of a new girl who had started. I was eager to try her despite the high price. She was everything the owner had promised and I left that evening with a satisfied feeling. I returned home and collapsed in my bed, heady from the wine and mead. She came to my bed shortly after, and fed from me. My last thoughts as a human were of my mother and father and how sad they would be of my passing.
I awoke the next morning in the cellar of her courthouse, a newly born vampire with a new lust. A lust for blood. She had barely begun to teach me the ways of the vampire world when we were discovered. They thought us to be demons back then. Their sheer numbers overpowered her, I managed to escape, hearing her dying screams echoing as she urged me to run.”
“My God Horaldo!”
“Vincent found me, sent me to a friend of his in France where I matured and learnt out ways.”
“What was the world like? No electricity, no modern technology at all?”
“It was simpler, less complicated but to watch the wondrous things that have been invented over the last two thousand years has been astounding.”
“It must be. To see what you have seen.”
I finished my food and wine and we packed up the blanket and leftovers. Horaldo took my hand and led me back onto the main road. We soon reached the gate house and I tried not to notice the smiles on their faces. I blushed red to think they might have heard our cries of passion.
Horaldo led us through the sea of caravans and up to the main house, swinging my arm slightly as we held hands. We made our way inside and to his bedroom.
“I need to check in with Vincent before I sleep, will you be okay.”
“Yes, I am exhausted. Do you have an alarm clock? I’d like to be at the library by eight.”
“You don’t need to do that now, stay here with me.” He urged.

bsp; “I like helping Malcolm, it keeps my brain busy instead of thinking about you.” I smiled.
“I would like to waken with you in my arms,” he pouted.
“I will come back, I promise. I will finish a bit earlier and get here well before sundown.”
He kissed me and left promising if I was asleep when he returned he would make sure someone wakened me in good time. I didn’t feel him slip into bed next to me; I slept soundly more than I’d ever slept before.
“Hey Nila… Nila.”
I inhaled the deep aroma of coffee and opened an eye. A gorgeous woman stood next to the bed and she held a cup of coffee in a costa cup. Here hair was dark brown, long and shampoo advert perfect and her face was flawless, my first guess was she definitely wasn’t human.
“Horaldo asked me to get you a nudge before I turned in, its seven o clock.” She whispered.
“Hmmm… thanks erm?”
“Robin.” She smiled.
I sat up, glancing briefly at the slumbering Horaldo and accepted the coffee.
“You’re Danni’s friend?”
“I am,” She smiled, “we’ll catch up properly later, must dash.”
She gave me a mini wave and headed out.
I sipped my coffee and watched Horaldo sleep. The corners of his mouth tugged up into a smile and I only hoped he dreamt of me.
When my coffee cup was drained I crept out of bed, retrieved my clothes and left my sleeping love to dream away the day.
Chapter 14
Malcolm was just arriving at the library when I turned the corner. Did I look different because he looked at me with a most puzzled expression on his face?
He unlocked the door, letting us both in and I sat at the reception desk and opened the netbook.
“I was talking to some guys at the café four rows back.”
“Uh huh, that doesn’t sound good.” I gave a weak smile but Malcolm looked deadly serious.
“They knew of you, you were seen leaving the compound last night with one of the big wig vampires.”
