The Malengo business was now water under the bridge, Oni Farraday and the other criminals arrested and the Kholi connection severed.
Thank heaven the adoption was now final. Though Heidi had been theirs from the beginning, she was, at long last, legally their daughter. How life had changed in just a little over a year. Victoria had never truly realized just what happiness was until Steve and Heidi had opened her heart.
Bevins jumped off the couch and came over to rub against her leg. “Okay, you, too,” she murmured, reaching down to pet him.

Victoria cut the thought short. Mikel Starzov was out there somewhere searching for her lost sister. She chose to believe that he’d be successful.
In the meantime, not only Heidi and the cat and Joker were hers to cherish, she’d been warmly welcomed into Steve’s extended family, becoming a part of it. She belonged.
