They sat in silence for a long moment. Outside the wind stirred and an owl hooted. Laura sank against his chest. Seth could almost feel her exhaustion.
He recalled that last night he’d found her asleep in the parlor and he’d carried her to bed. A smile tugged at his lips with another memory, the way her breasts filled the palm of his hand more than they had in the past.
“You’ve got something you want to tell me?” he asked.
She sighed. “Maybe I do.”
“Laura…”
She lifted her head and smiled at him. “I was going to wait until I was certain.”
His heart beat double-time. He waited. He’d made love to her in every room of the house since they’d married. Some days, they stayed in bed till noon. It came as no surprise that she might be expecting, and yet it still seemed like nothing short of a miracle.
“I think,” she said softly. “That come December, I might have a special Christmas present for you, Mr. Travis.”
