  INTRODUCTION

As we continue to dig into the arduous journey of Preston Brown it is no secret that he in fact began to have an identity crisis. In fact, that is what a lot of us are experiencing now. The world has influenced so many people to think like this or think like that, which ultimately leads to sin. What I mean by sin in this context is the distorted view of one’s self. Instead of living as the created, most of us are living as the Creators and not living as if there really is a higher being that we are to be living for. No one has ever been born of themselves, because it has always taken two to create one!

That is what Preston forgot. Instead of honoring God, he began to worship himself. Of course he knows which way to turn and what is right and what is wrong, but due to his ongoing pride he consistently found himself hitting road block after road block. Pain can only be the end result of such thought. Even though he was a minister and scholar his personal relationship with God was in shambles. When people know they are in the wrong, they become defensive and shrug off those willing to help the most. A hard heart starts to develop and there begins a “me against the world” mentality.

What I pray that you take from sequel is that going about things your way will never work and God’s way always will work. No matter how much you alter the course the truth will always seep in to find you out. Getting new friends, cars, houses, and spouses are never the answer and instead of trying to find the one it is important to be the one. Being the one impresses upon our spouses when we are able to build them up and help them too to live into their full potentials that God has already instilled the wisdom and power of being.

Preston could hardly believe his eyes! “What kind of sick joke are these ladies trying to play on me,” he thought to himself. Preston hated confrontation and if there was any time in the world he felt like running from anything it was definitely at this moment in time.

Delight strutted into the house and told Lustray that her daughters could go upstairs and play with the boys. Delight placed their baby boy in Preston’s hands and instructed Preston to sit down at the head of the table.

“Mr. Brown, right now if there is anything you need to do right now to come clear, now is the time,” Delight huffed.

Preston was so speechless for words that all he could do was look down and keep himself occupied with the baby. Before he could even find some words to say, Delight blurted, “Preston did you text someone saying I still love you and that I did not bash your name to Lustray?”

At this point Preston was hoping that Lustray was going to side with him if he lied.

“No, I did not,” Preston replied confidently.

Delight’s chest began to heave up and down and Preston instantly knew that there was no way out of this dilemma so he had better get it right today. But, now that he already let out a lie he would just fess up after the “rats ran the floor”. “Okay, Preston if that’s the way you want to play. Lustray please show me and him the text that he sent you less than an hour ago.”

Preston’s heart started to race a mile a minute and he could not believe that Lustray was actually going through with the requested motion. As Lustray pulled out her cell phone her hands were shaking feverishly like she had some type of disease. But, Preston could tell that Lustray was terrified of little Delight. Her words came out nervous and the more she tried to act like she was in control, the more shaken up she appeared.

Preston pondered, “Man, this is the lowest of the low and all I have done thus far is just sit here. Now I see how some of those guys being interrogated by the cops feel. Two people trying their best to shake you up, throwing out all of the evidence they know; trying to put the pieces of the puzzle back together. Although, this is terrifying I am relieved that something has happened to get all of this out in the open. Was there really a better way to address this situation? Maybe, maybe not. But one thing for sure is that I have two women that I slept with in a week’s time of each other. This is no joke, I feel like running. But, I bet there are a hundred men right now thinking to themselves, how did this brother pull that off with two fine women? I know it sounds sick, but it is the truth.”

Hands were flashing in front of Preston’s face, “Hello, Mr. Brown come back to earth,” Delight waved to him. “Now getting back to the question at hand, my husband said that I was gone and the marriage was having problems. But all I want to know is, where the heck did I go?” She turned toward Lustray and asked, “Now for you, is there anything that you want from my husband or do you love him like you say you do?”

Lustray glanced at Preston and replied convincingly and coldly, “No.”

Delight looked at Preston and discovered that she had become thirsty after so much preaching and nervous anxiety. “Preston can you go and get me a glass of water please?”

“Alright.” Preston walked towards the cabinets and asked if Lustray would like anything as well.

“No,” Lustray fired back not looking at Preston.

After Delight gulped her water down she asked Preston, “Are you sure that this baby is yours?”

Preston was never one to deny his children, but the pressure of admitting to his wife that someone on the side was true to him would almost sound absurd in their house. Preston gasped, “Well I was there and I will get a blood test to make sure that the child is mine.” He knew that it would tear a dagger in Lustray’s heart, because he even had a key to the apartment she lived in. There was no problem for him to ever get in and use her phone if he needed to. But, the reality was that he got into something that he should have never touched even though he had strong emotional feelings for her.

“Well, Lustray if there is nothing that you have to say to my husband… I appreciate
you coming over. And if it proves that the child is Preston’s then we will have no problem getting whatever the child needs. I have your number and you have mine so there is no problem getting in touch with me, because I do want the kids to see each other no matter what the situation is. I have nothing against you, this is just between my husband and I, that’s just God in me. I’ll get the girls from upstairs and I’ll get their coats.”

Preston was burning up inside of how he felt he should have had more to say. Maybe he should have just jumped up and left. Preston blurted out, “Well I am glad that we got this out in the open and that there’s nothing to hide anymore,” he raised up to see Lustray and her children out of the door.

As Lustray and her children proceeded out of the door Preston could only feel for his unborn child. With Delight’s strong personality he could not stand to have someone try to tell him how to view his child. But, right then and there he had forfeited every opportunity by putting himself in the position that he placed himself in.

Delight closed the door and asked Preston, “So do you think it is your child or is she hoochified?”

“I don’t think that she is any more hoochified than when I found out about our son when he was five months old with another man’s last name,” Preston reflected.

“You know what Preston, this shit hurts!! I never thought that the man that was there before my whole family and God on my wedding day would turn around and come stab me in the back like this.”

“Well, when the baby is born I am going to go and see it no matter what. I don’t care if that means getting a divorce or whatever, but my blood is my blood!”

Delight held her finger in Preston’s face trying to fight back tears, “That is your mistress’ child and you will only go and visit! You were only supposed to have children with me! Now I have to play stepmom to someone else’s child. Look at the position that you put me in! How am I supposed to feel when we go to family functions and things like that? Now I am the one that has the egg all over my face. And you are supposed to be getting ordained in the church! Who do you think is going to ordain you now? I am the one that brought you to God, remember that?”

Preston could not help, but to ball up his fists in disgust, because he could not stand it every time that they came into some type of altercation she throws up the responsibility of bringing him to God. “Look, you didn’t bring me to God, I just happened to become a Christian by going to your pastor before we got married. God isn’t really all that different, just because we read different types of literature. Some things you are just unwise about, it takes a higher mind to realize things like that.”

Delight could not believe her ears and displayed a blown away expression. The situation was already tense and both of them were already in hypersensitive states. “I am just going to get myself up out of here before I have a nervous breakdown. You know what? I am just going to leave you here and get some fresh air.” Delight walked back and forth rapidly as if she were having an internal dilemma to leave or not.

“You know what, just quite stalling and go ahead and leave. I need some time to think too.” What Preston really wanted to do was think of how he was going to tell Delight that he wanted a divorce because he was in “love” with Lustray.

“Well, I will be back in the morning to see the kids off to school, because right about now I cannot even stand to be in the same house with you.” Delight grabbed her keys and sped out of the driveway off towards Vashti’s house.

Preston felt relieved that Delight and Lustray were both out of the house. This way he could rehearse his conversation when she finally returned the next morning. But wait a minute. Where was she going? Did she have another man on the side she was going to get some from? Did she already have a booty call in place? “Well whoever it is they better leave some money, because I am going to have some bills to pay?”

In the absence of Delight in the house Preston felt the need to call Longs back and tell him how everything went during Phase I of the current operation. As he sat on the couch, he struggled to pull out his cell phone with the baby asleep in his hand. “Maybe the baby even knows what’s going on,” Preston thought. “This little booger never falls asleep this early in the night.” He placed the baby in the playpen and stayed stretched out on the couch because he knew he was not going to get any type of sleep. He called Longs and prepared to brief him on the turnout of the situation.

  II

Longs paced back and forth with Lisa as he waited in great anticipation to hear back from his young protégé. He was not sure if he should call Preston or just wait to call him right before his class time. “This brother sure does pick the most opportune times to mess up something. How does someone create so much fuss during the week of final exams?” He looked at Lisa for some answers, but all she could ask was, “what is he going to do?”

Longs looked at Lisa with a devilish grin and said, “Babe, if I knew I don’t think I would as nervous as I am. This young brother just has no clue what really has transpired here. He has just created a permanent wound that will never close up.”

“Well, is he going to stay with Delight or be with Lustray?”

“I told him if he thought Delight was going to take him back, then everything was going to be alright.”

“Now seriously Longs, do you honestly believe that everything is going to be alright after he created another seed with someone else he had no business messing around with?”

“The brother is in school, no drug charges, a good father to his children and made a very bad mistake. I am sure that there are women just lined up wondering what it is like to lay in bed with Mr. Preston Brown and just to see what he smells like and how he keeps all of those muscles in great shape. And if I know Mrs. Brown well enough, there is no way in the world she is going to give him up that easy. Mark my words!”

Just as Longs finished up his traditional lecture to Lisa he soon felt his cell phone vibrating in his pocket. Lisa popped up to see just who was calling. Not to mention that she was on Longs every second his phone rang due to a few mishaps on his own, but he was turning himself around the best he could so if it made her happy he was obliged to fulfill her every request. When Longs finally got the rest of his cell phone out of his pocket, he and Lisa both looked at the caller ID as if it were the Messiah making it out of the tomb and calling everyone he knew!

“Brother Longs, it has been one of the most wild nights I have ever had the unfortunate experience of witnessing. Would you believe that she did not kick me out and that both women ended up here at my kitchen table with all of the kids? This is insanity! I thought that I was going to have knives thrown at me and the authorities were going to be involved. I mean I know that I am one of the least of our race who actually seems somewhat positive, but dang,” Preston explicated.

Longs had to take some time to eat this one up. As Preston explained to him he put Preston on speaker phone so that Lisa could hear him prove Longs’ words correct. “So my brother, I told you everything would be alright! Well, I know it sounds crazy, but I know that getting everything out in the open has to be a great feeling of relief for a brother.”

“Yeah, but the only other thing is how is this paper going to get done? You’re done finals, I’m not. I was supposed to be hammering everything out right now, but obviously all of that changed. I don’t even know how to approach Lustray right now. I mean, she’s bearing my seed and I just don’t know how not to be a father.”

“So, what are you going to do?”

“I think when Delight gets back I am going to tell her that I am going to get a divorce. I know it sounds kind of crazy, but I know how fiery Delight is and right now I can’t stand to hear her voice up and down my back. She’s just too demanding and her friends say the same thing and she’s just too nave to know when she is out of place sometimes.”

Longs paused for a minute and asked, “Well, if you were going to do that you should have just looked at Lustray and said let’s go home. Now, you
know me I’m gonna tell you how it is and not hold anything back. You’re playing a dangerous game and the odds do not look favorable if you keep jumping from woman to woman. At some point all this craziness is gonna have to come to a close. So from here on out, let your yes be yes and your no be no.”

“I hear you, and yeah the stress has subsided some, but I am sure that there is going to be a lot more that comes along with this stress. In some cases I feel like this is only the beginning. I wish I could make things right, but I have already done so much wrong that I think it’s best to throw a bullet in this thing and start anew. Lustray is still married and she doesn’t even get back into the courtroom for a few more months to get it all finalized, because she is doing it through the law school that will do it pro bono.” Preston let out a deep sigh like a man that was trapped every way that he turned.

Lisa nudged Lomgs to ask what Preston was going to do about getting in touch with Lustray. “Oh, yeah my brother, you say you are going to get a divorce, but my question is; how are you going to get in touch with Lustray? Obviously, if you didn’t meet her you would not be getting a divorce in the first place,” Longs posed.

“You make a strong point and I just don’t see it working out. I mean, she already demands all of the time and Lustray never gave me any flack like that. Anytime I asked anything she would do it or damn near tried to. With Delight, she never even attempts to do some of the things that I ask Lustray. Matter of fact, when it comes to oral pleasures in the bedroom; Delight always has to have a long drawn out debate over the whole thing. And Lustray is the complete opposite, and she swallows! Now how is that going to be topped? The conversations we have are actually intellectual and Delight has to act smart, but I’d hate to say she really isn’t. Because every time I say something of some intellectual capacity she has to be told three times before I can move on to the next subject.”
