I made two research trips to Georgian Bay, and during the last visit my sister and I rented a cottage for a week so that I could follow Amanda’s journey through the book, hiking the trails and kayaking in the bays. I would like to thank the many people who answered my questions along the way, including the staff at White Squall Paddling Centre, Killarney Outfitters, Katawoda Cottages, Payne Marine, Gilly’s Snug Harbour Restaurant and Marine, and many others. Back at home, friends George Pike and Guy MacLeod provided much-needed expertise on boats and outboard motors.
As always, I’d like to thank my long-time friends and masterful critiquers Sue Pike, Joan Boswell, and Mary Jane Maffini for helping to fashion the rough, ragged story into the best it could be. I’ve been fortunate to have the same editor for many of my books over the years, and so a special thanks goes to Allister Thompson for his thoroughness, his professional insights, and most of all his calm, unflappable advice, leavened by his dry wit. And most of all, for that steadfast affection and support perhaps only a sister can give.
