In the beginning of my work with spirits and the public, I refused to go looking for spirits at all, choosing only to speak to the ones who readily presented themselves. Over time, that changed. Now I stand in my space and call to them. If they respond and want to come forward, they are welcome. I see this as opening the back door and yelling into the yard. I am not forcing anyone into anything, whether they be of spirit or of life. I am simply making an announcement that there is a gathering going on, and I’m turning on the house lights (or lighthouse) if they wish to join in.

Honoring Self
The dead are no holier than the living. This is a common misunderstanding; many believe that when someone dies, they become somehow more, and people often believe the dead possess gifts they don’t really have, such as psychic knowing. Like anyone, a spirit is simply a person (albeit without a body) who is doing the best they can with the knowledge they possess. The fact of the matter is, if Uncle Joe was a fool in life, he is not someone whose guidance you should seek in death.
We incarnate to learn. We come into each lifetime with an agenda filled with lessons that are meant to bring us further along the path of enlightenment. There is no quick pass, no get-out-of-jail-free card or override button. We must all find our way to our higher selves individually through trial and error.
When you do something that others cannot, people want to put you in a special kind of category. I have been both admired and hated by people who have never actually met me. Some want to put me on a shelf like a precious treasure to be admired but not interacted with. Others want to make me into a guru, and still others want to see me as alien or other. All of these reactions take my humanity away and discount the fact that I’m a person just like everyone else. I am here to live my life and to learn the lessons along the way that are intended for me alone. These lessons are not limited to the spirit world. I have to learn much else about myself through my relationships with living people. I experience fulfillment and loss just like everyone else. I am deeply grateful for people who see me as a person instead of as a psychic. Being psychic does not make a person omnipotent. I am not good at math, I am not a particularly fast runner, I smoke, and I swear like a pirate.
One of the most important things I have learned is the value of self-love. I often tell my clients that we must first learn to love ourselves before we can find another to love us. Whether we are reaching out to spirit or communicating with the living, we need to have respect for ourselves, and we should expect the same from others.
As a species we are becoming empathic. People are finding their senses heightened, and they are becoming aware of the emotional and physical pain of others. This is happening to people from all walks of life. We have reached the tipping point at which people no longer have a choice of whether they want to be more open. Psychic gifts that have remained dormant for many generations are being awakened. We are becoming more.
I believe this to be of great importance to the human race in the long run, for in sensing the feelings of others we naturally become more compassionate. However, the process of change is uncomfortable. Many people are struggling to find their way and often feel overwhelmed by life. This is understandable, as we are now taking in more information than we did even ten years ago. With this heightened awareness, we are all feeling a bit fragile. Now more than ever we need to practice love and forgiveness.
An important lesson I was reminded of recently is that we are not only receivers when it comes to sharing emotions; we are also projectors. We can choose what we send out into the world. Quantum theory has proven that thought matters. This principle works universally for positive and negative thoughts alike. When we step into our power and face our inner demons, we begin to heal. When we begin healing, we start thinking with more kindness. We are capable of holding great levels of love. We can radiate this love into the world. Each and every one of us is important. We are all here at this time for a reason.
I want to change the world. I know I cannot do it alone, but if we all make a conscious effort to stand in our truth and be the best selves we can be, we can do it together.
Spreading love,
