He plunges into me and I almost come undone. The fullness of his cock filling my pussy coupled with his finger in my backside fires nerve endings in a way that I could never have imagined. The sensation spreads through me like wildfire—burning me, filling me, stoking my desire. I want nothing more than to be consumed by his fire.

He slowly thrusts into me from behind, the angle stimulating my g-spot, and I feel like I may lose my mind as I hurtle headlong into a dark abyss. His fingers find my clit and he begins the languorous circles again as he slightly moves his finger in and out of my bottom. The onslaught of sensation—the fullness in my pussy, his finger in my ass pressing against the thin wall where his cock is working in and out, and the slow tease of my clit—culminate in one glorious orgasm. I feel his body tighten behind me and together we go over the edge, freefalling into the depths below.

  Chapter Twelve

It’s still dark outside when I wake up to the sound of rain and Griffin’s hands on my body. “I want to make love to you while it rains,” he murmurs, kissing my lips. “I want to hear the thunder crash as I make you come.”

I savor the feel of his hands on my skin and his lips on mine as the rain beats down. Our lovemaking breaks my heart and then puts it back together again. It is beautiful and poignant and tender and unlike anything I have ever experienced. Afterwards, I fall into a deep sleep in the safe circle of his arms, my head resting on his chest.

When I wake up again, the sun is streaming through the skylight and the bed next to me is empty. I experimentally move my arms, half-expecting to find myself handcuffed to the bed again. That, however, is not the case, and I slowly get up and make my way to the bathroom. There’s a sticky-note on the mirror and I curiously pull it off and read it.

Good morning, I read. Went for a run. Be back soon. I’ll make you breakfast. G

Breakfast! Crap. I’d forgotten all about brunch with Olivia, Simon, and Jenna this morning. I look around for a clock. Damn. It’s already ten thirty and we’re supposed to meet at eleven. I retrieve my clothes and put them back on, wash my face, put on a little eyeliner and mascara, and sweep my hair into a messy ponytail. It’s the best I can do under the circumstances. My friends are just going to have to deal with it.

It’s ten forty-five now, and I wait impatiently for Griffin to get back. For all I know, he runs ten miles a day and won’t be back for an hour. I hate to leave without saying goodbye, but it’s almost eleven and I have no choice if I have any hope of making brunch. Since I don’t have my car, I call Olivia to come pick me up, but she’s coming from the opposite direction so Simon agrees to swing by.

While I wait for him, I rummage through Griffin’s kitchen drawer until I find paper and a pen, and I scribble him a hasty note. I debate leaving him my cell phone number, but at the last minute I decide against it. I don’t want him to think I have any expectations beyond this weekend. After all, a weekend of sex to get him out of my system was my idea. The weekend is over, and along with it so is any relationship we may have other than attorney and client.

I inexplicably fight back tears as I wait outside for Simon to pick me up. It’s for the best that Griffin didn’t get back before I had to leave. I’d probably be a mess if I had to see him again, all hot and sweaty and sexy from a run, knowing that he isn’t mine to touch anymore.

When I slide into the passenger seat, Simon takes one look at me and says with a grin, “Girl, you look like you have been thoroughly fucked.”

I sigh, laying my head against the cool glass of the window. “You have no idea,” I say sadly.

The week drags by. Some part of me had been secretly hoping I would hear from Griffin, and I try to distract myself from my inexplicable disappointment when it doesn’t happen by working as much as possible. I remind myself that I’m the one who insisted on our weekend of passion, not him. He never promised me anything.

“Definitely not a good idea to bang your client, Mila,” I mutter to myself as Thursday morning rolls around with no word from him. If he were any other guy I could just throw myself into work and forget about him. Unfortunately, I have to call Griffin this morning and let him know we have to appear before the judge a week from Monday. Taking the advice of our Houston counsel, I filed a petition against Camille Penworth and Coker Pharmaceuticals alleging misappropriation of trade secrets yesterday. Camille’s attorney has already filed a response, and we have a pretrial conference in less than two weeks.

I’m working up the courage to pick up the phone when Jenna appears in my office doorway.

“Lover boy’s here to see you,” she says with a grin.

I swivel around in my chair.

“What? Now? Stall him for a minute so I can…” I trail off as Griffin appears behind her.

“So you can what? Sneak out the back?” He does not sound happy, and I belatedly remember his threat to take me over his knee if I ever left without saying goodbye again.

“I’ll just go now,” Jenna says unnecessarily since neither Griffin or I are paying any attention to her. Our eyes are locked on each other.

Without breaking our gaze, Griffin says in a steely voice, “Please hold Ms. Kingston’s calls. I need to get a few things straight with my attorney, and I’m going to need her undivided attention for a while.”

I swallow hard as the door closes behind Jenna with an ominous click and we’re alone. Despite his actions to the contrary, I try to remind myself that this is my office and I’m the one in control here.

“I’m glad you’re here,” I say coolly. “There have been a few new developments in your case that I wanted to talk to you about.”

“The hell with the case, Mila,” he says bitingly. “I’m not here to talk about the damn case. I’m here to talk about us and why the basic courtesy of sticking around to say goodbye after sex seems to elude you.”

“I left you a note,” I protest. “I was supposed to meet my friends at eleven and I had no idea when you would be back.”

“A note? We did the things we did on Saturday night, things I’ve never even thought about doing with anyone else, and you leave me a goddamn note?” Although his voice is controlled, his eyes are flashing and he’s almost vibrating with tightly restrained temper. He’s really angry.

However, I’m hung up on what he just said. He’s never done those things with anyone else? Try as I might, I can’t control the secret thrill that races through me at his admission.

“Look, Griffin,” I say rationally. “All it was ever supposed to be was one weekend of off the grid sex to get whatever this crazy chemistry is between us out of our systems. We’ve both been completely up front with each other that that was as far as this goes. So what difference does it make?”

“Because I was worried about you!” he snaps.

Now it’s my turn to be angry. “Really? You couldn’t have been that worried. It’s Thursday! That was four days ago!”

Griffin rakes his hand over his face and a look of defeat crosses his handsome features. “I can’t do this, Mila. God knows I’ve tried. For the last four days I’ve done nothing but try to convince myself that you’re right and this is all some visceral attraction, and that if I don’t see you or talk to you it will go away. But it’s not going away. If anything, it’s getting worse. You’re all I can think about. Your body, the intricate way your mind works, your smart mouth…I can’t get enough of you.

“Believe me, I’ve tried to stay away from you all week. I’m no good for you, Mila. Even if I don’t have to leave the country soon, my job is demanding. I can be gone for months on end. When I come back, I can’t even tell you where I’ve been. I’m not the kind of man a woman has a long term relationship with.”

“So why are you here?” I ask softly.

“Because you’re my weakness, Mila. Because even though everything I just said is the absolute truth, I still want you. I’m not ready to let you go. I want to be with you for as long as I can, whether it’s a few days or weeks or months. And I had to know i
f somehow that could be enough.”

His eyes, so expressive and pleading, are my undoing. Although heartache undoubtedly waits on the other side, I’m falling for him. I couldn’t turn him away to save my life.

“Probably not,” I say with my heart in my throat. “But I’m as powerless against this as you are. Last weekend was incredible, and I’m not ready for this to end either. I’d rather have another weekend or another month with you than a lifetime of not knowing what might have been.”

He smiles then, a slow smile that starts at the corners of his mouth and ends at the crinkles in the corner of his eyes. It’s a smile that lights up the room, and I can’t help but smile back. He closes the distance between us, one strong arm circling my waist as he runs his thumb reverently across my bottom lip.

“Are you sure, Mila? You should run like hell away from me.”

I take his face between my hands and press a kiss to his soft, sensuous lips. “I’ve never been a coward before, Griffin Black. I’m certainly not about to start now.”

His eyes sparkle wickedly and he says, “In that case, we have one small matter to take care of before we move on. Do you remember what I promised you I would do if you left again without a word after spending the night?”

My heart slams against my chest as I back hastily out of his arms. “You wouldn’t,” I say.

“Oh, I would and I will,” he says unyieldingly, taking a predatory step toward me.

“But I don’t want that,” I protest, trying to convince myself as much as him.

“Sometimes what you need isn’t always what you want,” he says huskily, his words echoing Marcus’ from what seems like a lifetime ago. “Now come here.”

I am so NOT doing this in my office. But the hunger in his eyes matches the sudden dampness between my legs, and I find myself slowly crossing the room and locking the door to my office. His will is incontrovertible, and I somehow find myself standing next to him, my pulse racing. He pulls one pin and then another from my hair, sighing with satisfaction as it cascades across my shoulders. His eyes take in the cream colored sheath dress I’m wearing accessorized with a slender black belt and black heels. He runs a finger across the pearl choker at my throat.

“You look so damn sexy in your business clothes and pearls,” he says.

“Then you’re not going to spank me?” I ask, not sure whether I’m relieved or disappointed at the thought.

“Oh, I am,” he assures me. “The fact that you look like you’re ready to kick the world’s ass just means I’m going to enjoy it all the more. How soundproof is your office?”

“Pretty soundproof,” I say, my voice coming out strangled. “Marcus takes client confidentiality pretty serious.”

“A man after my own heart,” he says with a wolfish grin.

He makes himself comfortable on one of the upholstered chairs that face my desk and pats his lap. When I simply stare at him, he grabs my hand and unceremoniously pulls me over his lap so that I’m upside down, my fingertips skimming the floor and my butt squarely positioned over the hard muscles of his thighs.

His warm hand caresses up my bare legs, pushing my dress up so that it’s bunched around my waist. He murmurs his approval as he strokes my ivory silk clad buttocks.

“Do you know why I’m doing this?” he asks as he drags my panties down until they’re around my knees. I want to die with mortification, but at the same time I’m totally turned on, my longing for the feel of his hand on my ass warring with my pride.

“Because I left Sunday morning before you got back?” I say, my voice muffled.

“Well, yes, but besides that.” His hand is firmly kneading my bare bottom, and I’m having trouble focusing on what he’s saying.

  “Um, because you’re a sadist?”

He laughs. “No, Mila.” He grows serious. “I asked you to stay and I told you what I would do if you didn’t. I always follow through on what I promise, and I expect you to follow through on what you tell me. Plus I think you want this. You want to let go of everything balled up inside of you. But I’m no sadist. I’m going to make sure you get just as much pleasure from my hand turning your sweet ass pink as I’m going to get doing it. But if I’m wrong and you aren’t aching for this as badly as I am, then just say the word and it stops right here.”

I’m quiet for a few moments as I mull over what he’s said. He’s right; I’m turned on and curious and there’s no way I want to back out of this now.

“Okay,” I say in a small voice.

“Say it, Mila,” he demands. “You have to own this.”

“Fine,” I grumble. “I want you to spank me.”

The sharp sting of his hand against my bottom catches me unawares.

“Ouch!” I say, moving my hand to rub my bottom.

He intercepts me and catches my wrist, pinning it to the small of my back. “That wasn’t a very nice way to ask for something you want,” he chides. “Try again. And no hands or the spanking will be longer and harder.” His voice takes on that commanding tone that does strange and wonderful things to my insides. “Put your hands at the small of your back and ask me again.”

I cross my wrists at my back.

“Please spank me,” I say with saccharine sweetness.

“That’s more like it,” he says, and I can hear the grin in his voice.

His fingers continue to explore my backside, stopping to plunge between my legs. The wetness there leaves no question as to how I feel about the fact that I’m half-naked and bent over Griffin’s lap with my hands behind my back.

“Don’t you think it’s slightly unfair that we just negotiated this with me bare assed over your lap?” I point out.

“Nope,” he says, squeezing one cheek and then the other. “In fact, I think this is how we should negotiate everything. Now I’m going to spank you, and when you’re wriggling on my lap and begging me to let you come, I’m going to put you across that desk and fuck you like you’ve never been fucked before.”

God, I’m about to come right now just listening to him.

“I think twenty-five strokes will help you remember to at least kiss me goodbye next time,” he says conversationally.

“Twenty-five?” I protest. “How about five for the first time since I didn’t know how strongly you felt about this, and ten for the second time?”

“It’s a spanking, not a court proceeding,” he says with a laugh. “And I don’t negotiate, so now it’s thirty.”

He doesn’t give me a chance to say anything else. He starts with a dozen or so light spanks, followed by several firm but erotic caresses across my bottom, spreading the warmth across my cheeks. The next blows come harder, never striking the same spot twice, and my arousal grows proportionately with the anticipation of not knowing where and when the next stroke will fall.

His slips his hands between my legs, lightly tugging at my labia before pushing two fingers inside of me.

“See how wet you are!” he says silkily.

Smack! Smack! Smack! He spanks me again, hard enough to sting but in the most delicious way. The blows continue to rain down on my bottom with enough intensity to make me squirm, which causes my pelvis to rub against the rough fabric of his jeans.

I feel that familiar gathering deep within me.

He stops again, his finger parting my burning cheeks to caress the small tight whorl hidden within. I inhale a gulp of air and squirm some more.

He spanks me a few more times until I cry out. I have no idea how many I have left, but I can’t take it anymore. Not because it hurts too much, but because I have an unfamiliar soul-clenching need building inside of me and I think I might explode if he doesn’t do something about it NOW.

“Please,” I beg, my breath coming fast.

He stops to rub my ass with his hand and then blows lightly across it.

“There’s that beautiful sting you needed,” he says.

  “Mmmhmm,” I agree mindlessly. “Please!”

  He must realize I’
m near the breaking point, because in one swift motion he pulls me up, clears my desk with a sweep of his arm, and splays me across it, my hands pinned above my head.

“Do you want me, Mila?” he demands, looking into my eyes.

“Yes, god yes,” I say, desperate to feel him inside me. “Fuck me now!”

His narrowing gaze makes me quickly add a belated, “Please.”

Then he’s unbuttoning his pants and driving his hard cock inside of my dripping pussy, pumping into me until I’m gasping for breath. I buck against him, my hips willing him to go faster, harder, deeper. He gives me what my body wants, and within seconds I shudder as the intense orgasm racks my body with great, rolling shockwaves. As the orgasm rocks through me, something loosens inside me and I feel suddenly light…liberated…exhilarated. His body stiffens and he buries his face in my neck as he comes hard on the heels of my orgasm, erupting into me.

We lay there panting for several long minutes.

“I can’t believe we just did that on my desk,” I finally say with a small laugh. “I’m never going to be able to concentrate on work again.”

Griffin smiles lazily, helping me to my feet as he crushes me to him. Oddly enough, his earlier rationale makes perfect sense now. In addition to being held accountable, I realize I needed to quiet the whirling dervish of my thoughts and release all of the tumbling emotions, and somehow Griffin knew just how to help me do that.

I retrieve a box of tissues from my drawer and clean myself up a bit. He comes up behind me and slips his arms around me. Instinctively, I relax back into his comforting embrace.

“Can I take you to lunch?” he murmurs into my ear. “I’m still hoping to get your phone number.”

“You can definitely take me to lunch,” I concede, turning in his arms to kiss his smiling lips. “I’m starving.” I lower my lashes flirtatiously. “Getting my number is another story.”

With a growl he captures my earlobe between his teeth, nipping lightly until I groan. He lets me go and together we put my desk back together and I fix my hair and makeup before we emerge from my office. Luckily, no one is around. I’m sure I look guilty enough to incriminate myself in a court of law.
