Destiny Rules..

  “This trip was so fulfilling.”

“You did good, love, figuring out the knob, the multiple settings, putting two and two together from the journals. Amazing.”

I smiled feeling the warmth cocoon us. “I wouldn’t have done it without you.”

“Now that I think about it, it feels like all it took was for us to stay in the palace, and it wasn’t even in the plan. I figured the palace was safer when we realized all the activity by Raji and her friends.”

“One of the most memorable trips… not only because of what we were able to accomplish but for the fact we did it together.”

“You were the brains, baby, I was just the brawn.” Nick chuckled.

“It was nothing I did, it was probably, now that I think about it, my obsession with the love story and then something about the way we found each other.” I looked up at him smiling.

“I like that happy look on your face.”

  “I’m super happy.”

“I can make you happier,” he groaned into my cheek, his fingers digging into the softness of my waist. His lips moved ever so slowly along my cheek. I wanted him to go fast and slow at the same time.

“I want to take you right here, sweetheart.” We were on our private balcony with our feet dipped into the fountain that was at the center.

“I prefer flower petals on my back than concrete, but I won’t fight you,” I rasped.

“I want you all to myself, at least once a year… just like this, every year.” Nick left a flurry of kisses on my bare skin making me moan.

“Baby, when you moan like that, I can’t keep it under control.” He pulled away from me to step out of the small fountain and scooped me into his arms.

I laughed when he scooped me higher to keep kissing me as he carried me indoors to the lavish bedroom. The so-called tour of the Jaipur Palace was put on hold since we refused to leave each other’s side since we arrived.

Nick dropped me onto the soft bed and pulled his t-shirt over his head. “Can you handle this, baby?”

“Bring it on,” I challenged biting my lip, and that did it. He pounced onto to the mattress peeling off my clothes in a mad rush making me smile at his impatience. Nick and I had discovered a new level of our intimacy, and I was loving it. He was the sweet and patient lover who knew how to turn it up a notch to set my entirety on fire.

  *****

  Six months later…

“Did I ever tell you, you are brilliant?” I teased looking at Nick through the mirror in the Jaipur Palace.

“You haven’t, sweetheart.” He chuckled looking at me from the couch as I put on my jewelry. We were back in the palace for Sam and Rhea’s wedding, and for their wedding, I needed a custom-made dress to fit the bulge in my belly. I was close to six months’ pregnant with a baby boy.

“The timing of the wedding is perfect… if it were a few weeks out, I would have totally missed the wedding, both Nate and me.” I laughed.

“I’m sure you had something to do with the wedding date,” Nick teased.

“I’m sure you had something to do with the wedding location,” I teased him right back making him laugh.

Nick was still in his shorts and t-shirt waiting for the exact minute before we stepped out of our room to go to the gardens where the wedding venue was being set up. Nick had encouraged Sam and Rhea to pick a destination wedding, and they picked the wedding location to be the Jaipur Palace and the reception to be in the Vaasireddy Palace.

“Do you like the choice of the locations?” he asked standing up to walk to where I sat in front of the mirror.

“Yes, both of them. I can’t wait to see Reetu and Raji.” I smiled. Sam dropped all charges against Reetu, and she chose to move back to India. As promised, one percent of the trust was transferred into her name, and both Raji and Reetu took over the operations of the trust under Sanjana’s guidance.

Sanjana’s father retired from the Board and also from politics and moved to his ancestral village. Sanjana made him return the money he spent to hunt for the chain in the form of assets written in the name of the trust. The rest of the Board continued to support the three woman who ran the trust to expand the reach and provide for people in need.

“I want you to take care of our little man while we are on the trip. I’ll take care of my princesses.” He kneeled in front of me and gently placed a kiss on the bulge. The full mustache and beard he had grown for the wedding gently tickled my skin, and I moaned running my fingers into his hair.

“I think I like a name from the list you gave me yesterday,” I managed to say as he continued to kiss my belly.

“You know you can pick any name, baby. The list was a suggestion.” He looked up at me.

  “Neel… Neel Bhatia.”

“Love it.” He kissed my lips.

“I love you,” I whispered against his lips, enjoying the feel of his facial hair on my skin.

  Epilogue

  Five years later…

“Oh my God, thank you so much, girls,” I said stretching my neck after a wonderful afternoon at the spa. Ann had planned a lunch with Nate, Rhea, and me followed by a spa appointment, and I couldn’t deny it was the best way to spend an afternoon.

“This is part of your birthday celebration,” Ann said, smiling.

“This was so much fun. I didn’t need another birthday celebration,” I said fighting back happy tears as I stepped out of the day spa with Nate, Ann, and Rhea.

“Sam, it’s your three-O,” Rhea reminded laughing.

“Yes, and we wanted to welcome you to our club in style,” Ann teased.

“You guys are the best.” I put my arms around the women I’ve been blessed with in my life before we all slid into the limo.

“I’m ready to go home,” I squealed looking forward to seeing all our children. They were spending time with their dads while their moms relaxed.

Ann and Paul were blessed with two boys. The boys were just like her two younger brothers. Nate decided she had enough kids after her boy claiming my kids were hers, too. Rhea and Sam were blessed with a little one a year ago, and just that morning, she whispered in my ear that they might be expecting another one.

I thanked every god out there for the beautiful life I was blessed with, the man I love, and to be the mother of his three children was more than I could ask for.

“We should make a stop at the salon since we have time,” Ann declared middle of the chatter.

  “And?” I asked suspiciously.

“We should get our nails done.” Ann sounded excited, and Nate and Rhea jumped on the bandwagon.

“Okay, I’ll go with you but don’t want to get my nails done. I’ll get a haircut instead.”

“Wait, won’t Nick have a heart attack if you cut your hair,” Ann teased knowing how obsessed Nick was about my hair.

I laughed unable to disagree with her. “He’ll survive a trim.”

Ann was able to get us into a salon very close to the family residence. I sat in the chair talking to Ann, Rhea, and Nate looking at them through the mirror. The woman trimmed my hair within minutes, and I sat talking to the girls as they got perfect nails.

“Meera, you should get some makeup on while you wait for us,” Ann said winking at the woman who cut my hair.

  “No, I’m fine.”

“Hey, it’s your birthday celebration.” Rhea winked.

“My birthday was last week, and we already had a celebration, a big one last week already.” I laughed.

“You can never celebrate too much,” Rhea stated, and Nate and Ann nodded in agreement.

“You don’t need heavy makeup. I’ll keep it simple.” The salon owner smiled.

I playfully growled at the girls and smiled at the salon owner. “Sure.”

Almost an hour and a half later, all four of us walked in through the main doors all decked up. Ann, Rhea, and Nate liked what the woman did for my makeup, and they all got it done.

“It’s as if we are going to a party now.” I
laughed walking into the large living room, and I froze at the sight in front of me. My grandparents were playing with all the children, and I was convinced it was a dream.

“Nani, Thatha…” I said, and I heard Nate gasp in surprise. We both ran to our grandparents and hugged them.

“Did you know?” Nate and I asked in unison looking at each other, and when she started laughing, I knew who the culprit was. I hugged my grandma as the family cheered on as my eyes searched the room for Nick.

“Nethra and Meera, you look beautiful.” My grandma kissed us on our cheeks.

“Nani, why didn’t you tell us you were coming, and this is your first time. We would have come to meet you at the airport,” I whined.

“Nick came to get us, and Srini traveled with us,” my grandpa said softly.

“We traveled in a private jet.” My grandma beamed and that look on her face gave me a high, a happy high.

“Nani and Thatha, I am so happy you are here… I’ve always wanted to…” My voice trailed off, and I knew why my grandparent’s arrival was a surprise. I pulled back to look at Nick and smiled at him, and he blew me his signature kiss. His kiss made my stomach flutter even after seven years of marriage.

Later that night, I headed upstairs after making sure my grandparents had everything they needed to settle in for the night. It was a memorable evening with family and most of all, my grandparents being able to meet all their great grandchildren together. In the past few years, we had made several trips to India to visit my grandparents as they were unable to travel long distances.

I smiled when I realized how a simple wish I had made less than a year ago was a reality.

“I wish my grandparents could come visit us, play with all our kids in the living room, tell them stories, and talk about our childhood with our kids,” I said looking at my grandma feeding one of the girls a traditional Indian sweet.

“How is now different, love? Your grandparents are spending time with the kids,” Nick said.

“Look at my grandma. She is constantly wondering what to feed us next, and my grandpa, he is busy guarding them, so they don’t run into the antique furniture and hurt themselves.” I smiled.

  “Interesting.”

I first stopped at the girls’ room and saw they were fast asleep. I stopped at Neel’s room, and he wasn’t in bed. I knew where I would find my boys, and I couldn’t help smiling when I saw Nick fast asleep on the couch with Neel sprawled on his chest.

Something deep inside me twitched, and my heart fluttered with love for the father of my children. They were both asleep with the Formula One race running on the TV. The loud engine noise was surely a lullaby to both of them.

I walked over to the couch and went down on my knees and kissed Neel’s cheek. They were both in a deep sleep, and I couldn’t get myself to wake them up to go to bed. I sat on the floor taking in the scene in front of me and looked up at the ceiling and whispered, “Thank you.”

I lowered my eyes fighting back happy tears. “I love you, Nick.”

Nick moved in response to my words. He slowly opened his eyes, and when he lazily smiled at me, my heart melted for the man who was my everything.

“I love you, Nick,” I repeated, looking into his eyes, my voice steady and a bit louder.

He smiled and placed one hand on the sleeping child to secure him to his chest, and with the other, he pulled me close to him. He gently brushed his lips against mine, and I felt his love deep inside. He didn’t need to say another word.

“I want you to put me to sleep, too,” I asked, my voice a whisper.

“I will, sweetheart.” He smiled getting up from the couch and holding Neel in his arms. I followed him into Neel’s room and watched him gently put our child on the bed and pull the sheets over him.

Nick walked over to me as I stood looking at him in awe.

“You checking me out?” Nick teased.

“How did the guy who rode motorcycles blowing kisses turn into the father of my children?”

He laughed and put his arms around me. “Like this.”

“Thank you,” I said, my voice muffled into his t-shirt.

“Baby, we talked about not thanking each other for things we do for love.”

  “I love you, Nick.”

“I like that better. I love you, too, sweetness.” Nick led me into our bedroom.

“Nick, how do you still manage to surprise me?”

He laughed, “Clearly, with a lot of help from everyone.”

“I thank every power out there for what we have in our lives,” I said, my voice a little shaky.

  “Baby… “

“Nick, you are my destiny.” I hugged him.

He pulled back slightly to bring his lips to mine. “Our love is our destiny.”

I closed my eyes pouring everything into a devouring kiss and taking in every moment our love thrives. Destiny decided our togetherness, and when it embraced us, we were bound by its rules laid out for us.
