Barefoot & Pregnant: A New Adult Romance Page 3

Katie groaned, “Almost, but I don’t think I remember any of it.”

Brianna grinned, “The Canterbury Tales isn’t your thing?”

“Please tell me it isn’t yours,” Katie asked.

“It isn’t anybody’s, well, besides Chaucer. But he lived in the 1300’s so what did he know?” Brianna sat behind Katie.

  Katie giggled, “Not a lot.”

Mr. Jones, the English teacher, happened to overhear the conversation. “I would hope that reading The Miller would be exciting.”

The class groaned. At least Katie knew she wasn’t the only one that felt that way.

Mr. Jones was an older man, who wore the same gray slacks every day and smelled of mothballs. He took his thick glasses off and set them on the desk behind him. “I would think that a story about a carpenter with a beautiful wife, that two clerks wanted to sleep with would entertain my classes.”

“That was not what I read,” Brianna blurted out.

“Indeed, the young wife has an affair with one of the clerk’s. The other is totally enamored. He sits beneath her window singing love songs to her. When she gets fed up with him asking for kisses, she presents her derrière to him which he kisses in the dark by mistake.”

“He kissed her ass?” Charlie, a jock from the back yelled out, “That’s kinky, maybe I should have read it.”

“Thank you, Mr. Miller, and yes—you should have done the assignment.”

The class laughed with Charlie, who was grinning, “Don’t leave us hanging, Mr. Jones!”

Mr. Jones shook his head in amusement, “You had all night to find out what happened, Mr. Miller. However, I will continue. The clerk with whom she was having an affair sticks his behind out the window and farts in the singer’s face.”

Katie couldn’t believe that this was the same tale that she had read. Chaucer was hilarious.

Mr. Jones continued, “The singer, angry at the wife for her trick, went to the smith and got a red-hot poker which he uses on the clerk’s buttock.”

“He burned his ass?” Charlie couldn’t contain his laughter, “That is awesome!”

Mr. Jones nodded, “Yes, with the screaming the Carpenter awakened. Thinking that it is a great flood, he makes such a racket that the entire town shows up. Upon hearing the story, the villagers deem the husband is crazy.”

“What happens next, Mr. Jones?” Brianna asked.

“There is no next, Ms. Carlson, that is the end of the story. But I am glad that it has managed to catch your attention. What was it that you said? It isn’t anybody’s thing?”

Brianna wasn’t even embarrassed to be called out like that. Katie was impressed with how the dark-haired girl just laughed it off.

“Looks like you might know what you are doing, Mr. Jones.” Brianna saluted him, “I shall keep my comments to myself.”

“On the contrary, Ms. Carlson, I prefer that you and your fellow student's comment, ask questions, and have a voice. This is how we learn. It is only when we refuse to try that I am disappointed.”

Katie thought about that what Mr. Jones had said for most of the day. She wondered if she even had a voice anymore. And if not, where in the hell it had gone to.

  CHAPTER 7

Liam couldn’t wait to get to Trig, not for the scintillating lecture, but to see Heidi again. He hated to think that he might be whipped, but she had taken over much of his thoughts. And he couldn’t help but hope that she was in a tiny skirt again.

“Hey man!” Mitch greeted Liam, “Saw Katie earlier talking to that new girl, Brianna.”

Liam frowned, “Was she giving Katie any trouble?”

“No, man, they were talking and shit. Katie had a smile on her face, so I think it was all good.”

Just then Heidi walked into the room. Her outfit did not disappoint. There couldn’t be more than four inches on that skirt. Her long silky legs were left bare, and Liam felt his dick respond. What he wouldn’t give to have them wrapped around his waist or his shoulders.

“Daaamn,” Liam hadn’t even realized that he had uttered this aloud until Mitch busted up laughing.

Mitch was doubled over, gasping he replied, “I see you are a fan.”

Liam flipped him off, “Anyone with a working dick is a fan.”

Mitch’s smirk said it all, “She’s hot, no doubt, but you my friend. You have it bad.”

Liam rolled his eyes, “Listen shit-for-brains, don’t say anything. I am meeting her at your party Friday, so don’t screw it up.”

Mitch’s eyebrow rose, “Heidi hardly ever parties, how did you manage that?”

“Maybe she is into me,” Liam smirked.

Mitch laughed, “I guess we will see. Just stay away from my room if you decide to bang her. I don’t need that on my sheets.”

Liam grudgingly smiled, “High class, that’s what you are Mitch. But don’t you worry, I would rather not be with her in the same place you lay your hairy ass.”

“You love my ass!” Mitch winked as Liam shoved him away from his desk. “You should be so lucky!”

Some of the other students overheard and a smattering of laughter caused Liam to flush. Used to this kind of banter with Mitch he rolled his eyes, “I’ve seen better.”

Mrs. Douglas cleared her throat, “If the bromance is over, I would like to start class.”

The students laughed again, and Liam joined in, “The floor is yours, Mrs. Douglas.”

“Thank you, Liam, you are too kind. Class, I have the results of your test, if you did well—I am proud of you. If you are like the other half of the class, you may need to look at some tutoring.”

Groaning the class waited as Mrs. Douglas began passing out their tests. Liam was fairly certain that he had done pretty well. Colt had helped him earlier on when he was struggling. It helped to have a best friend whose mind worked like a computer. When his test landed on his desk with a 94% at the top, Liam grinned. It looked like all the studying had paid off. Glancing over to Heidi, he noticed that her head was still down looking over all the red marks on her returned test.

Heidi sighed, folding the test in half, she shoved it in her bag.

This gave Liam the perfect idea. It was torture waiting until the hour was over to speak to her. As soon as the bell rang he sprang from his seat and raced over to where she was getting her things together.

Heidi was slow to get up, grabbing her bag she wasn’t looking where she was going.

Liam felt her slam into his chest. He grabbed her arms to steady her and was enveloped by her perfume. Liam had no idea what she wore, but it was intoxicating. His dick twitched in his boxers. That was the last thing that he needed.

“I am so sorry,” Heidi’s cheeks flushed, “I didn’t see you there.”

Liam wanted to ram his hands into her hair and kiss her until they both couldn’t breathe. What was it about this girl?

Heidi glanced around nervously, “I had better be going, thanks for catching me.”

It was then that Liam noticed that he still had his hands on her arms.

“Do you want to study?” Liam blurted out. “With me, I mean.”

A small smile graced her lips, “You want to study? Liam, I’m not very good at Trig.”

  Liam smirked, “But I am.”

Her eyes widened, “You would help me?”

Liam felt his heart skip. She was going for it. “Of course, I would love to.”

Heidi’s smile widened, “That would be great.”

Liam tried to control the shit-eating grin that he knew was plastered all over his face. “Perfect, do you want to come to my house?”

Heidi’s smile dimmed, “Or maybe you could come to mine?”

Liam didn’t care if they met at the garbage dump, he just wanted to spend time with her. “That’s works too, are you free tonight?”

“I can’t tonight, but I can tomorrow after seven if that works for you. Let me give you my address.”

Swapping phones, they entered their information. Liam c
ouldn’t believe his luck. Finally, things were looking up. He floated through the rest of the day. Even Colt’s teasing that he had no right helping anyone with math couldn’t bring him down. Besides, hopefully, there wouldn’t be much studying going on.

When he got home, he noticed that he had a message.

Heidi: Thanks again, looking forward to tomorrow.??

Liam: Not as much as I am.

Liam wasn’t much for emoji’s, but he couldn’t help but take his phone out again and again to see the smile she had sent him.

Mitch was right. He had it bad.

  CHAPTER 8

“Honey, I’m home!” Colt’s voice reverberated around the house as the front door slammed shut.

“We aren’t buying any today, little girl, go home!” Katie called back snappily.

Colt’s eyebrow rose as his lips twitched, He went to the dining room first, but Katie wasn’t there. Next, he checked the family room. Katie was sprawled out on the couch with a carton of ice cream and an open jar of peanut butter. She was eating straight from the container with a spoon.

“Have we hit the pickles and ice cream phase?” Colt couldn’t keep the amusement out of his voice.

“Zrrooom,” Katie narrowed her eyes at him before returning to her ice cream.

Colt laughed, plopping down beside her he asked, “What the hell was that?”

“I was slicing you with my laser eyes,” Katie replied as if she had always possessed them.

“That’s not fair,” Colt protested, “When did you get laser eyes?”

Katie shrugged, “The creative writing topic today was what kind of super power would you like to have. Obviously, laser eyes were the best option. Besides, I’ve always wanted to be a superhero, so I am trying it out.”

Colt busted up laughing, “First, Katie-cat, you could never be a superhero. You would make a killer super villain, but you don’t like people enough to be a hero. Everyone pisses you off.”

“Zrrooom,” Katie replied, “There go your arms.”

His green eyes were dancing, “See! I haven’t been here five minutes, and already you have chopped my arms off. There would be no one left on earth if you were given laser eyes.”

Katie rolled her eyes, “I would only laser the annoying people.”

Liam grinned, “Right, and how would you get to the people in need? You still can’t drive. Are you going to bike to the rescue?”

“Zrrooom, that was your ear,” Katie took a spoonful of peanut butter.

“Katie-cat, you are the most adorable villain I have ever seen,” Colt ruffled her blond hair.

Katie gave him the death stare, “You are trying to make me kill you, aren’t you?”

“Do I get a super power? Because I want to fly, I could carry you to where ever you needed to go.”

Katie looked at Colt, “That was sweet, I am sorry about the ear.”

“What about my arms? It’s going to look strange with me flying around trying to hold you with my legs alone.” Colt’s eyes twinkled, “But I guess that means you will just have to hold on extremely tight.”

Katie had a vision of her wrapped around Colt, damn, even in her mind it felt amazing. What was wrong with her? She couldn’t keep fantasizing about her brother’s best friend.

  “Where did you go Katie-cat?”

Katie hadn’t realized that she was still thinking about him, she flushed at waved it off. “It’s nothing, why are you so late tonight? Liam left, he said something about studying with someone.”

Colt swallowed, suddenly the room felt smaller. Katie had on one of Liam’s tanks over a pink lacy bra. He could clearly see the outline of her breasts. They had grown, and he felt like a lecher knowing her boobs well enough that they were obviously bigger. What a perve! “Oh, we are here alone?”

Katie looked at him strangely, Colt seemed nervous, “If that is too weird, you can leave.”

Colt heard the hurt tone in her voice. It wasn’t weird for him at all. Some other adjectives came to mind—off limits and tempting at the top of the list. Would it be inappropriate to ask if he could lick her from top to bottom? Shit, not what he should be thinking about. “I am not weirded out by being alone with you. We do things together all the time.”

Katie sighed, “I am sorry, Colt. I thought you sounded a little off, and to be honest. I think my hormones are way out of whack. I didn’t mean anything by it.”

Colt secretly agreed that his hormones were going crazy as well, but probably not for the same reason that Katie was referring to. “I got caught sleeping in Calculus, so I had detention. Then I had to stay after baseball practice because the coach was pissed that I was so late. Mom wasn’t thrilled about the detention, especially coming to get me since Liam drove today. That’s why I am so late coming over. I don’t care the Liam isn’t here. But I am starving, are you going to share any of that?”

Katie looked at her ice cream and back to Colt, “I am sorry about this.”

Colt looked confused, “Sorry about what?”

“Zrrooom, I had to cut your head off. I can’t have you getting my Chunky Monkey,” Katie grinned at him while taking a big bite.

Colt drove for the ice cream container, but Katie was faster tucking and rolling away.

“You are going to spill it!” Katie shrieked with laughter.

“Stop being such a piggy and share then,” Colt countered grabbing her leg and pulling her to him.

Katie fought as well as she could, but trying to hold the ice cream and fight off a hungry teenage boy proved more than she could take. “Colt, you are taking nutrients from the baby!”

Colt scoffed, “The baby can eat carrots, there are some of those in the fridge.”

Katie wrinkled her nose, clutching the container, “I hate carrots!”

Colt grinned. Katie’s legs were pulled across his waist, and they were once again right next to each other. In a quick move he swiped the spoon, “But the baby loves them!”

“How do you know?” Katie cried out, “Are you a baby whisperer?”

Colt laughed, “Hell, yeah I am. But only your baby Katie-cat.”

Katie was frozen. What did he mean by that? But she didn’t have a chance to think about it long because the carton was ripped from her hands. “Noooo!”

Colt grinned, trying to hold her back with one arm while he used her spoon to get an enormous bite, “The is amazing! Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had.”

“Don’t eat it all!” Katie cried out as he took another large bite.

“Do you want some, Katie-cat?” Colt scooped out a tiny amount to feed to her.

“You are a sadistic bastard. You know that?” Katie huffed.

Colt wiggled his eyebrows, “So you don’t want it? That’s fine. I am still hungry!”

He turned the spoon around to go back towards him when Katie stopped him, “No, give it to me!”

Colt laughed and got a bigger bite for her, lifting it up to her perfect lips he watched as she opened her mouth. Those perfect lips were causing him to stare. She closed her eyes and moaned in complete bliss. Suddenly this wasn’t such a good idea. Katie’s legs were still tangled in his lap, and she was going to feel the effects she was having on him.

Colt shoved the carton and spoon at her, “Here you go, Katie-cat, I am finished.”

Katie eyed him strangely, but took the ice cream, “Thank you, Colt.”

Colt’s cheeks were pink. This wasn’t a side that she saw of him very often. “It’s for the baby,” he blurted, “Not you.”

Katie grinned, “Oh yeah, since you’re my baby whisperer. What is she saying right now?”

Colt pretended to consider, “I can’t hear him, I need to get closer.”

He gently moved her legs to the side and then lowered his head to her abdomen as if he were truly listening.

Katie’s heart rate escalated. Did Colt know that he was almost face first in her lap? Katie felt heat engulf her. This was not good. Her voice deepened, “Well?”r />
Colt raised his head, “He said that Colt was a way better superhero than his mom. Sorry about your luck, Katie-cat.”

Katie laughed, as she punched him in the arm, “You are such a dick!”

Colt felt his dick throb. They weren’t going to talk about that. “Let’s watch a movie,” he suggested.

Katie’s eyes lit, and Colt knew that he was in much deeper trouble than he had first anticipated.

  CHAPTER 9

Liam drove home from Heidi’s on cloud nine. Not only had he spent the evening with the most beautiful girl in the world, but her family seemed to like him as well. Liam knew how important it was to win over the family. Back when Katie used to bring guys around, he loved messing with them. The idiots would be all nervous and Liam would enlist Colt to help him give the kid the third degree. Katie got so pissed at them.

Liam smiled to himself at the memory. She used to be so radiant and outgoing. Always the life of the party, Katie could light up any room. They had always been close, being just eighteen months apart they were only separated by the one year in school. Liam had always watched out for her, Katie was just a free spirit.

But when their parents passed, they dealt with it in dramatically different ways. Liam seemed to go from a teenage punk kid to acting like an adult overnight. He had to learn how to manage their parent’s finances. Thankfully Colt had been a huge help.

Colt for all his screw-off joking was truly a genius. There wasn’t a subject that he needed to study. Learning just came naturally with him. Mrs. A had been there every step of the way, Liam knew that without her support he wouldn’t have been able to handle Katie’s pregnancy.

He wanted to find the bastard that had knocked her up and beat the shit out of him. But Katie would not say who it was. Even worse, she wasn’t dating anyone. She hung out with a lot of different guys. Liam, Colt, and Mitch had tried to figure it out. But they hadn’t had any luck.

Liam pulled the car into the garage and went into the kitchen. He could hear the television blaring some musical and figured that Katie had put on a movie. Locking up for the night, Liam went into the family room to see if she was still awake.
