“I can’t lose them, Bales. I need them,” he whispered. His voice was full of emotion and desperation, and Micah could hear the tears in his voice.
“I know, Joshie. It’ll be okay. We’ll find them. Have faith that Micah, Jesse, and everyone else will find them,” Bailey said in a soothing voice and tightened his hold on Josh.
“Trevor may not be able to tell us how to get there, but he may be able to tell us if it is the same place. He was there for about nineteen years. Maybe he saw or heard something that can help us pinpoint where they are?” Dante suggested.
“That’s a good idea. Can someone take me to Trevor?” Raphael asked.
“I’ll take you, Raphael,” Phenex offered and walked to the nearest wall. Raphael joined him, and the two disappeared.
“So what do we do until they come back? We need to figure out a plan, because if it is the same place, then we know that it’s definitely Minos who took them. We also need to know why he took them. What was his end goal?” Ryland asked.
Suddenly, Phenex and Raphael appeared, walking back through the wall, but they weren’t alone. Trevor and Fallon were both with them. Greetings, hugs, and kisses were given before everyone settled back down.
“I can’t believe someone took your mate, Papa, as well as Maddy and one of his mates,” Fallon said.
“That’s why Dad came to see Trevor. We were hoping you could help us find them,” Micah stated.
Trevor’s eyes went wide. “Me? How could I help you find them?”
“I used my power to locate them. I was able to find them, but I couldn’t figure out where it was.”
“I don’t understand,” Fallon said in confusion.
“I would like to go back there and take Trevor with me so that you can tell me if it is the same place Minos held you.”
“You want me to go back there?” Trevor asked in a fearful whisper, and he began to shake.
Fallon pulled Trevor into his arms. “You can’t ask him to go back there. Not to the place he was…no. It would be too much for him.”
“You wouldn’t physically be going there. You would remain here, but your mind would travel with me to that place. It’s okay, Trevor. I understand if the memories are too painful for you. I can just describe it to you and hopefully that will be enough,” Micah said, trying to appease him.
“No. If I can help find Papa’s mate, as well as Maddy and his mate, then I need to try. It just scares me to be in that horrible place again. It looked so nice and elegant, but it is a place of evil.”
“Sweetheart, you can’t go back there,” Fallon stated soothingly. “I don’t want you to relive all those memories.”
“May I make a suggestion?” Taylor asked as he stepped forward. Everyone turned their attention to Taylor.
“I can go with you, Micah, and then broadcast the images to everyone here. This way, Trevor will be in complete control of his body, and Fallon will be here with him.”
“Can you do that, Taylor?” Phenex asked. “We know you can broadcast people’s memories, but this is different. Have you ever tried this type of projection before?”
“No, but what can it hurt?” Taylor shrugged. “And if it doesn’t work, then I can just broadcast Micah’s memories of the place.”
“But he was never actually physically there. Would it work the same? Or would you have to broadcast Trevor’s memories of the place?” Jesse asked.
“No!” Trevor yelled, and everyone looked to him. “I don’t know how this broadcasting thing of yours works, Taylor, but I don’t want the possibility of those horrible memories coming to view for everyone, or Fallon, to see. The nightmares have finally stopped, and I don’t want to see those memories again.”
“Let’s try option A first, Taylor.” Micah tapped Jesse’s hip for him to stand and Micah stood, too. He walked to Taylor and smiled. “Okay, hot stuff, do your thing and dazzle us.”
Taylor gave Micah a smirk and a wink, and then placed a hand on Micah’s shoulder. “Okay, Dad, take us away. Oh, can we stop for ice cream along the way? I have a craving for some Rocky Road. Maybe a quick trip to the Bahamas? I’m looking a little pale and would die for a tan right now.”
“Sweet baby,” Gabriel admonished gently with a laugh as he shook his head.
Micah threw his head back and laughed at Taylor’s antics. He kissed Taylor’s head and closed his eyes. “Okay, Tay. Make sure your tables are in the upright position and your seatbelt is buckled.”
They were flying through the air at top speed. Images blurred as they moved past. They stopped abruptly and were now standing before the black metal door. They stepped through and both froze when they saw Minos and another man standing by the bed. Maddy was awake and sitting up between Minos, Evan, and Milo. Maddy’s eyes were full of rage, his jaw clenched, and his claws were out.
“Those idiots grabbed the wrong ones,” Minos said, seething.
“Is this not Matthew, my lord?”
“Yes, this is Alison’s bastard son, but he holds none of her powers. Feel him! There is no witchcraft inside him,” Minos yelled.
“But how is that possible, My Lord Minos? Once the witch dies, her powers are to go to her offspring.”
“He must have an older sibling. A witch’s powers go to her firstborn. If he doesn’t hold her powers, then who does? Who is it, and where are they?” Minos said absently, lost in thought.
“Wouldn’t your brother Malachi have told you if Alison had another child?”
“I would think so. Either he didn’t know, which I highly doubt, or he was keeping things from me. An ace up his sleeve.” Minos turned toward Matthew. “Where is your sibling?”
“I don’t have any siblings, you fuckhead. My bitch of a mother was lucky enough to get one guy to fuck her. I doubt she was that lucky again, but I guess luck had nothing to do with my conception either, seeing as she drugged my father and cast a spell on him.” Maddy seethed.
“You’re lying, whelp. I can see it. You know you have another out there. Where are they?”
“I already told you I have no fucking idea what you’re talking about. I am an only child. I have no siblings.”
“He’s definitely lying, My Lord. I can see it, too. Maybe he knows he has a sibling out there but doesn’t know where they are?”
“Maybe if I start flaying the skin from his human mate’s bones it will jog his memory?” Minos stated maliciously. Minos waved his hand toward the still-unconscious Milo, who then began to shake violently.
“Leave him alone, you fucking prick!” Maddy screamed and tried to throw himself over Milo to block him, but the chains on his wrist didn’t give him enough room to fully shield his mate.
“Where is your sibling?” Minos asked calmly.
“I don’t know!” Maddy yelled.
Minos flicked his wrist toward Milo again and this time Milo screamed out in agony. A long line of red appeared across his chest, and blood started oozing and seeping through his shirt, soaking the material.
“No!” Maddy screamed and pressed his hands against Milo’s chest.”
“Tell me!” Minos screamed.
“I don’t fucking know where she is! I never met her! I don’t even know her name! I didn’t even know about her until a few months ago! Now stop this! Leave him alone! He doesn’t have anything to do with this! You wanted me. So leave them alone. I’ll do whatever you wish, just don’t harm them. Send them back.”
“Yes, I did want you, Matthew, because I thought you held your mother’s powers. Seeing as you don’t, you’re worthless to me now. You all are. My Nephilim were supposed to grab the other witch, your bastard father’s mate. The human was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Minos turned toward the other man. “Kill them. They have nothing I need.” Minos turned to walk away.
“My Lord, maybe we can use them as bait to get the witch and the doctor?”
Minos spun back around to face the other man. “How?”
“This one is Raith Angel’s son. I’m
sure the beta would love to get him back.”
“Yes, but I doubt he will sacrifice his mates for this,” Minos sneered and motioned toward Maddy.
“I agree, My Lord, but he will come for him. We can set a trap. Once we have Raith Angel, we can use him to get his mates. I have no doubt that they will offer themselves up for him.”
Minos smirked at the other man. “You’re right, my pet. They aren’t warriors. They don’t think the way the others do. If we contact them and instruct them to tell no one but to come to us to save their mate, they will.”
“Exactly. Now we just need to figure out how to get Raith Angel without the others knowing and coming with him. We can send out the Nephilim again to grab him.”
“No, they fucked up this simple task. I think I need to readjust their dosage. It will be so much simpler when I have the doctor working for me.”
“In their defense, My Lord, I was there, and I saw the beta’s mate. That’s why I beckoned the Nephilim. They are just as surprised as we are that they grabbed the wrong one. His scent was strong in that kitchen, and they thought that other one was him.”
“Then they can live for now, but if those big idiots make one more mistake, I will turn them into rogue Nephilim,” Minos said.
“So what should we do with them?” The other man motioned toward Maddy, Milo, and Evan.
“We need Matthew to draw his father here. The other two are useless. The human will be dead soon anyway. When the other one wakes up, throw them to the hellhounds,” Minos instructed and turned away. He walked toward the black metal door. Not seeing Micah and Taylor, he walked right through them and left.
* * * *
Micah opened his eyes to find everyone in the kitchen with matching horror-filled eyes.
“I guess that answers my question,” Taylor mumbled. “They saw everything we did.”
“We have to go for them now!” Josh started screaming. “Milo is gonna die soon if we don’t!”
Raphael walked to his side and held Josh. “We’ll get our men back, son. I promise you that if it is the last thing I do, I will get them all back, alive.”
“They came for me?” Rory asked fearfully. “They thought Evan was me? He’s in this mess because of me?” Rory started to cry. Raith and Aaron both wrapped their arms around him.
“They want to get their hands on both my mates, Micah,” Raith said as he held Rory close. “We need to find out why. I know why they want Aaron. They want him to finish Malachi’s work, but why Rory?”
“They thought Maddy got Alison’s powers, so I am guessing they want Rory for the same reason―his powers.”
“But why? I don’t get it.”
“There’s another problem we’re not thinking of,” Jesse announced.
Micah turned to him. “What is that, baby?”
“Now they know that Maddy has a sibling and that he holds Alison’s powers. I could see Maddy was trying to throw them off by saying ‘she,’ but they’re not dumb. They’ll be searching everywhere for his twin, and I’m afraid Minos will find him first. He has access to all of Malachi’s work. There may be something in his files about who and where Maddy’s twin is.”
“That was it. That was the place,” Trevor whispered. Tears rolled down his cheeks, and his bottom lip quivered. Fallon wrapped his arms tighter around his mate.
“Do you know where it is, little one?” Phenex asked gently as he knelt before Trevor. Trevor shook his head no. “Over all that time, did Minos mention anything that may help us locate his lair?”
“I-I-I don’t know,” Trevor stuttered. He bit his bottom lip and concentrated. “Um…I always asked how it was so comfortable in there. I expected the cave to be cold, but it wasn’t. The walls were warm. He said that being that far down below, the heat warmed the walls. That’s why they stayed that way.”
“Thank you, Trevor,” Phenex said and stood with a smile on his face. He turned toward the rest of the group. “I think I have an idea of where they may be. Micah, is it okay for me to invite someone very special here?”
Micah gave him a curious look. “Of course, especially if you think it will help.”
“My Lord Lucifer, I request the privilege of your presence here on earth before these others,” Phenex called out to the room.
“So formal, Phenex.”
Lucifer’s voice had a hint of humor in it as he appeared in the doorway of the kitchen. They all turned in his direction. Lucifer was leaning against the doorframe, his left foot crossed over the right, his arms folded across his bare chest, and a smirk across his lips.
“My Lord,” Laylen said and stepped forward. He knelt on one knee, bowing his head.
“You may stand, Legion.”
Laylen straightened and moved back to stand beside his mates.
A gasp came from across the room, and then another. Everyone turned to find Mitchell and Demetrius with twin looks of shock on their faces.
“Demi, what’s wrong?” Zane asked in concern as he moved closer, placing his hand on Demetrius’s shoulder.
“Although I do not think you are trying to make a move on my mate, young Guardian, I suggest you remove your hand from his person before I make the hand disappear from your body,” Lucifer instructed calmly.
All heads snapped in Lucifer’s direction, and they all held the same stunned expressions on their faces.
“Mine!” Mitchell cried out and suddenly shifted into his Lycan form. Instead of moving before Demetrius to block him, Mitchell moved quickly across the room, grabbed Lucifer up in his arms, picked up the Lord of Hell, and held him tight.
Lucifer smiled brightly, causing his already-beautiful face to now become stunning. With one hand, he caressed the back of Mitchell’s head as the look in his eyes softened and filled with tenderness. “Thank you, mate, for such a warm welcome, but this will be the only time you pick me up,” Lucifer said teasingly. “I may have to morph into my true form and change our places, but I don’t think the Prime would appreciate his house being blown to smithereens again.”
Mitchell gently lowered Lucifer to the floor and made sure he had his footing. Then he released him and stepped back. Mitchell’s Lycan form looked down at the floor as his eyes filled with sadness.
“Now, now, my beautiful mate. Don’t be sad. When we are away from others’ eyes, I may let you do that again,” Lucifer said happily as he cupped Mitchell’s chin and lifted his head until their gazes met. “You are remarkable in both your forms, young one. Now, shift back so that we may find out why my Commander called upon me,” Lucifer instructed calmly.
Mitchell immediately shifted back to his human form and pressed his cheek against Lucifer’s hand. He pulled back in surprise and his face turned pink with embarrassment.
“Never be embarrassed to take comfort from your mates or to show your need to be with your mates. What is your name, beautiful?”
Mitchell stared into Lucifer brilliant blue eyes as if he were mesmerized. “Mitchell Warren.”
“Mitchell. I like that. A beautiful name for a beautiful man. What is the name of our other stunning mate?” Lucifer asked and broke their gaze. He turned his attention toward Demetrius.
“I am Demetrius,” he answered softly.
“Demetrius. Beautiful. I look forward to getting to know both of you, and soon.” He gave them both a heated look, and both men blushed. Lucifer chuckled as a wide grin spread across his lips. “How lucky I am.”
He turned his attention to Phenex. “What did you wish to speak with me about, Commander?”
After Phenex explained everything that was happening, he told him about his suspicions of where Minos’s lair was located.
“So he took not only three defenseless men, but one of them is a human?” Lucifer asked, his voice strained, showing he was trying to control his rage.
Lucifer’s eyes turned to pitch black, and his jaw clenched tight. Mitchell reached out from beside him and took the Lord of Hell’s hand. Lucifer’s head snapped in Mitchell’s directi
on. Instantly his eyes shifted back to his beautiful blue, and he relaxed.
“Thank you, mate.” Lucifer leaned down and placed a tender kiss on Mitchell’s cheek, causing Mitchell to blush again. Lucifer grinned and looked to Micah. “Would it be possible for someone to get my mate something to cover his nudity? I know it is not something the wolves have a problem with, but I am not liking that all of you can see his beautiful body, and I am afraid my beast may come out.”
Mitchell gasped and turned even redder. He pulled his hand from Lucifer’s and covered his groin with both hands. Micah removed his shirt and tossed it to Lucifer. “This will be big on Mitchell, but it will cover him.”
Lucifer looked at Micah thoughtfully and with great respect. “Thank you, Prime. The shirt off your back. The gods have surely chosen wisely.” Lucifer handed the garment to Mitchell and he quickly put it over his head. The hem fell to his knees, and Lucifer chuckled. “Almost perfect. Even though you are now covered, I would prefer you to wear my clothes, but this will do for now.”
Lucifer looked back to meet Phenex’s gaze. “I agree with you, Commander. I do believe Minos is held up somewhere below Hell. I know those cave systems better than anyone. I suggest you, me, and the Legion descend on them.”
“We would like to help, Lucifer, especially seeing as he has taken three of our family members,” Micah stated respectfully.
“I understand, Prime, and if I were you, I would want the same thing. Unfortunately, I am not sure that any of your powers would work there. Although, seeing as Minos was able to use his powers, then the Heart would probably be able to use his.” Lucifer looked to Jesse with soft eyes.
“Whether our powers work or not, we would still like to come with you,” Micah stated.
