Little Earthquakes

My own life has changed a lot since I wrote that first book. Back then, I was single, working full-time at a newspaper, and women's books were more frequently just called "books" than they were called "chick lit." These days, that's changed, and my life has, too: I'm now married, with two daughters, a full-time writer of fiction.
However, the themes that interest me haven't changed much, and the questions that drive my novels are the same: what makes a family? How do children survive difficult childhoods, and how does their history turn them into the adults they will become? How do girls and women who are bigger than a breadbox keep some semblance of self-esteem in the world of the incredible shrinking starlet? How do you make sense of a world where bad things happen, with perturbing frequency, to good people? As with all of my books, there's humor, and relatable characters grappling with the maddening, myriad complications of being a mother and a daughter, a sister and a friend. I hope you've enjoyed this look at CERTAIN GIRLS . . . and I hope you'll accept my sincere thanks for your enthusiastic support of all of my novels.
