“His failure to complete the job on Helen and your team, sent Michelle over the edge and so she said 'she killed him for incompetence'. We asked her where his body was located and she told us and then asked for a diet coke. Gibbs left to get her water, and once he returned I stepped out to call my partner to locate Dr. Lewis. By the time I returned to the room, the Michelle I interviewed shortly after the death of her husband was back. It was so weird. We had to put an end to the interview then not knowing if she was mentally competent to decide whether she needed an attorney or not. Deputy Davis was arranging her transfer to a state facility for evaluation before we decide what to do next. At some point, she’ll stand trial for murder in Green Bay. No offense, but the California charges are only attempted murder.”

“Gee, thanks. Did she say whether Dr. Lewis killed her husband?”

“She called it ‘his last successful action’. So that makes her at the very least a co-conspirator. She had a rock solid alibi or we might be looking at her for that murder. After we finish the forensics on the deaths of Drs. Phillips, Lewis, and Easley, I think it will sort itself out. Helen is still making progress and I bet that at some point she will be able to tell us that Dr. Lewis tried to kill her.”

“Have you notified my friends about locating Dr. Lewis? They’ll want out of police protective custody as soon as possible.”

“My partner was going to make that call to them. We need the officers back from their protective assignment as quickly as your friends want their freedom, I am sure. Did you ever have a guess as to the motive in both of these cases? We haven’t come across the connection between Dr. Phillips and Dr. Easley.”

“We did figure out his motive, but haven’t found a legal way to give you the information. Since they are all dead now, motive doesn’t matter.”

“So you’re saying that the motive was specific to Dr. Lewis and with him dead, we aren’t worried about anyone else becoming a target for murder."

  “Yes that is correct.”

“For the record to close out this case, you don’t want to give me that information?”

  “No.”

“You’re a hard woman, Dr. Quint.”

“No I am a wise woman and I don’t care to put you in a difficult position.”

“Okay, then I am going to head to the airport to catch a flight back to Green Bay. Other than your refusal to give me the motive, it’s been a real pleasure working with you and your team,” Haro said as he stretched out his arm for a handshake.

“It was a pleasure working with you as well. I really appreciate your protection of myself and my friends over the last several days.”

The moment she saw his car leave her driveway, she pulled out her phone to try and do a conference with Angela, Jo, and Marie. In the end, she only found Marie available to take her call. They agreed that beyond the murders, the saddest thing about this case was the innocent children left behind by Dr. Lewis and Michelle. Jill doubted that Michelle would ever be declared competent to stand trial, yet at the same time for the public’s protection, she needed to stay locked up.

That night Jill celebrated the end of the danger related to this latest case with Nathan. She was with her favorite man, in her favorite restaurant, eating her favorite food, and sipping wine. Yes, life was good.
