She understood the way things were and believed they would always be that way. Men were dogs, and a woman had best learn how to control them. Rebecca knew how to handle Lawrence and would use what she knew to control him.

If there is a theme that runs through each of these books, it would be the desire to pass on a legacy. It is something she has grown to appreciate more and more since becoming a grandmother.
