Spot and Smudge - Book One

This book is dedicated to our Mimi. Never has there been, nor will there ever be, a finer Scottish grandmother. She is with us no more, and yet with us always.
Although she was tickled to inspire a character in the Spot and Smudge books, she made me agree to ‘not make her too daft, and don’t bloody tell them any tales involving Zinfandel’. I gave her a big hug, and then told her I would make no such promises. I do hope the Mimi in the books, like the Mimi in our hearts, came across as intended; canny, cheeky, hysterically funny, and very, very loved.
The real Mimi was one of those rare, beautiful gems whose grace and warmth touched every hand she held, and furry head she patted. In fact the pair of medium-sized black dogs sitting beside my desk are waiting patiently for the return of that sweet, musical voice and the clicking of those high heels. The pups are ready to ‘assume the position’ for her offering of a biscuit, and to share that special kind of unconditional love reserved for dogs and grandmothers.
I find it comforting she’s got Spot and Smudge to keep her company, and based on the little gray muzzles looking up at me Ty and Z will be assuming the position again before too long.
Yes, the reality of a too short life is sad, but having shared the best ones is also pretty damn wonderful.
‘Til we all meet again, Mimi.
Are you enjoying the Spot and Smudge books? The best compliment you can ever pay me is a good review. I realize it takes a few clicks and a few minutes of your time but it truly does help and is greatly appreciated. If you have left a positive review, or recommended the books to a friend, please let me know so I can thank you.
Best regards, Bob Udulutch
