Turning to look at Kristie after the tour of Rossi Co., Mary asked, “Is this all yours?”

“Rossi Co. belongs to my sisters and I. It’s a work in progress.”

“Well, I’m sure your parents must be very proud of all of you,” replied Mary while taking Kristie’s arm and squeezing.

“My parents are no longer with us. They passed away a while ago. They were in a horrible car crash and died on impact,” said Kristie looking down the hall at her parent’s portrait.

“I’m so sorry,” said Mary with a frown.

“Thank you,” said Kristie taking Mary’s offered hand. “Come. I made arrangements for lunch. I’m sure you must be hungry.”

Declan dressed in a dark suit, crisp white shirt, and black tie. Making his way towards the gala Kristie invited him to; he looked around to see if he could find her. Letting out the breath he was holding, he relaxed a little the moment he spotted Lorie and Paul walking towards him.

“Well don’t you clean up nicely,” said Lorie with a bright smile. Looking around, she asked, “Where’s my sister?”

“I don’t know. She asked me to meet her here,” said Declan with worry etched all over his face. “Do you think something happened to her?”

“Let’s go inside,” said Lorie patting him on the arm. “Maybe she’s already here.”

Declan felt his heart quicken with each step. Opening the huge, wooden, double doors, he stepped inside and attempted to see but was blinded by darkness and one bright white light.

“Surprise,” yelled the people in the beautiful room as the lights were turned on. Declan walked inside and let his eyes adjust before looking around.

“Well, don’t just stand there,” said Paul hitting Declan on his back. “Go say your hellos to people.”

“I still don’t see my Barbie Doll,” said Declan nervously.

“Trust me,” said Paul with a huge smile. “She’s safe and she’s around somewhere. Who do you think put this whole thing together?”

Flashes went off and Declan realized his picture was being taken. He managed to smile and, hopefully, look more relaxed. This wasn’t his usual scene and he wasn’t completely sure how to act. Following Paul and Lorie, he noticed his mother and father standing up waiting for him.

“Mom, Dad? Wow,” said Declan at a loss for words. “How did you get here?”

“That beautiful girlfriend of yours called and made all the arrangements,” said his mother as she hugged her son tightly. “We’ve missed you.”

Feeling incredibly guilty for not calling his parents, he choked up. “It seems I owe you both a huge apology.”

“Don’t,” beamed his father looking at his son with pride. “Let’s look at this as a new beginning. Happy birthday.”

“Thanks,” said Declan feeling a little less stressed. He walked around and greeted the rest of his family and the rest of his guests. The moment he sat down, the lights were turned off, except for one light in the center of the room. Music started to play as a couple began to dance. A swing incased in flowers slowly dropped from the ceiling.

  “Ladies and gentlemen, Kristie Rossi.”

Kristie held her position on the swing and began singing ‘Thinking Out Loud’. As the swing slowly made it’s way down, her best friend William Guerra helped her down and danced with her while they performed the perfect duet. Once the song was over, Kristie walked over to Declan and hugged him. “Happy birthday.”

Lifting her off the ground, he said, “I can’t believe you did all this.”

“I had a lot of help,” she said smiling at him. Turning towards the center stage, she looked around at the crowd and clapped. “I can’t tell you how amazing you all look from where I’m standing. Thank you all for joining us tonight to celebrate the birthday of my very handsome boyfriend. Tonight is all about family and close friends. So without further ado, let’s all have some fun.”

As she said that, the back wall opened and inside was a huge party room equipped with slot machines, card tables, a few roulette wheels, and crap tables. “You’ll find play money and chips against the wall. Please keep in mind that gambling is still illegal unless you’re cool enough to know a Rossi or two.”

Kristie turned and put down the microphone. As she turned around, she bumped into something solid. Looking up, she smiled.

“Barbie Doll,” said Declan with a huge grin. “I can’t wait to have you all to myself. You look delicious.”

“Oh get a room already,” said William gagging.

“Don’t give him any ideas,” said Kristie smiling at her best friend. “Where are your mom and dad? I want them to meet my handsome man.”

“Come on then,” said William leading the way. “Let’s find them before my dad loses his shirt.”

  Chapter Twenty-Two

Kristie stretched and got out of bed and pulled on her robe with a yawn. “Come on Ares,” she called while she opened her door and walked downstairs.

“Morning,” said Lorie standing there dressed in the clothes from last night.

“Morning,” said Kristie smirking. “Looks like someone had a great night.”

“That was really nice of you to invite Paul’s family to Declan’s birthday party. You really surprised him. Me too.”

“Of course I’d invite Paul’s family. Isn’t he part of our family?” asked Kristie as she opened the back door to let Ares out.

“What are the plans for today?” asked Lorie watching her sister getting food ready for Ares.

“I rented out the back room of the diner. We’re all meeting there in two hours,” said Kristie as she glanced at her sister.

“Paul thought that was the time,” said Lorie nervously.

“Yes. Declan has no idea,” said Kristie smiling.

“Um. Yeah. About that,” said Lorie glancing at her sister for a moment. “Paul’s mother accidentally slipped and told Declan she’d see him in the morning.”

“Okay. No big deal,” said Kristie with a grin. “I just want him to spend time with his parents. I don’t think he talks to them that often.”

“I gathered that,” said Lorie feeling uncomfortable discussing Declan’s business. She opened up the back door and Ares came running in for his breakfast.

Kristie finished getting dressed and was slipping on her shoes when Ares started to jump up and down. Looking at him oddly for a moment, she opened up her bedroom door and smiled.

“Your little boy heard his daddy and got excited,” exclaimed Kristie while standing on her toes and kissing Declan hello. “Happy birthday G.I. Joe. Do you want your present now?”

  “My family’s downstairs.”

“Get your mind out of the gutter,” laughed Kristie while she pulled out two gifts from under her bed.

“Am I supposed to open them now?” he asked in a nervous voice.

“Are you not used to getting gifts? Of course you open them when they are given to you.”

“Oh,” he replied while nervously rubbing the back of his neck. “Which one should I open first?”

“The blue box is from Ares and the green box is from me.”

“Why did you do this? You went completely overboard. I can’t begin to imagine how much that party must have cost.”

  “Did you enjoy yourself?”

  “Yes.”

“That’s all that matters to me. Now open your gifts.”

Choosing the blue box first, Declan sat down on Kristie’s bed and ripped off the wrapping paper before he opened up the box. For a moment, all he did was sit there and stare at his gift.

“Is...is something wrong?” asked Kristie nervously as all color drained from her beautiful face. “If you don’t like it I can get you something else.”

Declan pulled out the silver dog tag with a dramatic angel standing guard of a soldier. He looked at Kristie and felt his heart melt. Turning it over, he saw his personal information engraved on the back. “I love it. Thank you. Thank you for everything.

Rubbing her hands together with excitement, she exclaimed, “Open mine now.”

He walked over to Ares and said, while roughing him up a bit, “Thank you. I love my gift. Now I better open up your mommy’s present before she bites my head off.”

Kristie stood there watching Declan and lifted up her cell phone to take a few pictures. He looked up at her, held up his gift and smiled for the camera. “Such a good sport.”

He pulled off the green wrapping paper and froze when he looked at the green wooden box with the golden crown and lettering stating Rolex. “Come on Barbie Doll,” he groaned while opening up the box and pulling out a gold Daytona watch. “This is insane.”

“Every sexy man should have a good watch,” said Kristie hugging Declan. “Put it on and let’s go so I can visit with your family before breakfast. Don’t look at me like that; they’re leaving later on today.”

  ~*~*~*~

Kristie and Declan waved goodbye as Declan’s family left. Wrapping his arms around her, he said, “This was the best birthday ever.”

“Oh,” said Kristie taking his hand and leading him inside her house. “It’s not over yet. I have one more surprise for you.”

“Stop. I can’t take anymore. I just want to spend the rest of my birthday with you and Ares. Where is my little boy anyway?”

“He’s inside waiting for you. Go upstairs, I’ll be right there.”

“Okay but don’t take too long.”

Kristie waited for him to close the bedroom door and gathered her supply bag, changed her clothes and opened the bedroom door, dropping the bag on the floor. “Birthday boy,” called Kristie in a seductive voice. “Go sit in that chair right there. No turning around. Just do as your told.” Moving behind him, she said, “Clasp your hands behind your back and close your eyes.”

  “Really?” asked Declan completely clueless.

Kristie stood behind him and tied his hands together. She placed a blindfold over his eyes and began lighting candles in a variety of colors and scents. Once the scene was set to her liking, she turned on the music and stood in front of him. He leaned forward as if he could sense her there and she savored his need. She pushed his blindfold down.

“Seaman Recruit Kristie Rossi reporting for duty sir,” said Kristie bending forward to show ample cleavage in her sexy Naval costume. Her full breasts were practically spilling out of the tiny midriff top. Bringing his eyes lower, he looked at her tight, toned abdomen, short skirt and toned legs.

“Are you seriously trying to kill me?”

She saluted him and said in a seductive voice, “First order of duty is to drive my recruiter to the point of no return.”

Declan was out of his restraints the moment she stood in front in him and sat there in agonizing pain as her body sashayed and gyrated around him.

Kristie bent over in front of him and eased off the tiny white thong she was wearing and tossed it at him.

  “Barbie Doll,” groaned Declan.

“Sir,” replied Kristie bringing the back of her thumb to her mouth and holding it there for a moment. “Is there something else I should be doing? Am I being a good little recruit?”

“I think you’re a very naughty little recruit. Stick your ass in my face one more time and I promise I won’t be responsible for what happens next.”

“I don’t think so,” said Kristie bending over in front of Declan with her legs spread, face down to the floor and her long blonde hair hanging over her.

Within an instant, Declan had his pants unzipped and grabbed her from behind while shoving himself inside her.

“Wait, what?” groaned Kristie eating the carpet. “How?”

Declan’s hands roamed Kristie’s entire body stopping at each of her breasts before squeezing them. “Seaman Recruit Rossi get ready for a pounding. You’re a very naughty girl.”

“Oh my,” squealed Kristie as Declan’s pulsating manhood slammed into her. His fingers played with her taunt nipples, teasing them to solid peaks. Feeling her insides clench, she let out a loud moan.

“That’s it. Give it to me my little sexy recruit.”

Declan woke up extra early and groaned when he found Kristie on the opposite side of the bed. He pulled her against him. He kissed her eyes, her nose, and her mouth and whispered, “I love you Barbie Doll.”

She slowly opened her eyes and looked at him. “I love you too G.I. Joe.”

“Thank you for the best birthday ever.”

“You’re welcome,” said Kristie rolling onto her back.

  Chapter Twenty-Three

The following week, Declan showed up at Kristie’s office with two-dozen white roses and the look of doom clearly written in his eyes.

“Mind if I come in? I know I don’t have an appointment,” he said with sadness laced in his voice.

“Please. Distract me. Come in and sit down.”

“I leave in a few hours and wanted to come see you before I deploy.”

Kristie shoved her chair back and ran into his arms. She hugged him tight. “Oh G.I. Joe. I’m really going to miss you.”

“Not as much as I’ll miss you.”

“Do you know how long it will be this time?” she asked with a hoarse voice.

“No. I haven’t a clue how long at all.”

“Oh,” quipped Kristie feeling her heart drop to the floor. Doing her best not to cry, she sucked in a few gulps of air and said, “Well, don’t worry about me. I have so much work to do that I’ll be buried in paperwork for weeks. Possibly months.”

“Just do me one huge favor,” said Declan placing his hand under her chin and lifting her face to meet his.

  “What’s that?”

“Pay attention to your surroundings at all times and don’t go anywhere alone. Please.”

“Yes Sir,” said Kristie trying to smile but failing miserably.

“I love you so much and you’re everything I’ve ever wanted in a woman and more.” Words didn’t form. Couldn’t form. He wrapped his arms around her and held her for as long as he could. The sound of a phone ringing pulled him away as he pulled his phone out of his pocket and answered.

“Yes. I’ll be down in five minutes. I’m aware. Okay.”

Kristie stood there willing her tears away and did her best to keep it together until he left. Walking to her purse, she pulled out a small gift bag and handed it to him. “Don’t open this now. I know you have to leave.”

“Aye,” said Declan running his fingers through his hair. Taking one last look at Kristie, he pulled her in and kissed her like it was the last time he’d ever see her. Looking at her while moving a few strands of hair out of her face, he whispered, “I love you.”

“I love you too,” she said while standing there watching him walk away. Walking to her office door, she called out to Stefan before she completely lost it and said, “Please hold all my calls and if anyone comes to see me, send them away.”

“Will do,” said Stefan glancing up from his work. Noticing Kristie standing there with a pained look, he said, “Go home. I promise I’ll handle whatever needs to be handled.”

“I wish I could Stefan, but I have way too much paperwork,” she walked into her office and closed the door behind her. Walking to her desk, she noticed the roses. She walked over to them, put her head down and cried. Letting out one final sob, she wiped her nose with the back of her hand and dried her eyes.

Deciding there was no time like the present, Kristie dove into her work completing one file after the next. Before long, she was caught up with paperwork and responding to emails.

“Good night Miss Rossi,” said Stefan at Kristie’s office door.

  “Good night. Get home safe.”

The week passed in a blur and Kristie found herself sitting at a restaurant with her two sisters. “Thanks for doing this Daniella,” offered Kristie in a tired voice.

“Yeah,” said Lorie toying with the food on her plate. “Thanks.”

“There’s a huge party tonight at Murphy’s, why don’t you two get out and have a little fun,” suggested Daniella with optimism in her voice.

“Sure. Why not,” said Kristie pulling herself out of the funk she was in. “I can’t imagine Declan sulking around so why should I?”

“That’s the spirit,” Daniella teased while taking a huge bite out of her chicken. Turning towards Lorie with a raised brown, she asked, “What about you?”
