“Do you love him?” Patricia asked. Irina had asked the same thing.
“I do. The problem’s not Tom. Or not entirely. The problem is his world. Your world really. He says it won’t matter to him. Maybe he’s right. Maybe not. But I know it will matter—to me.”
“I understand,” said Patricia. “Or I think I do. Can you tell me more?”
“Yes.” Eleanor placed her elbows on the table and inclined her body slightly forward. “Yes, I can. I’d like to tell you—everything.”
