She had helped Lunn several times when he needed a third hand to hold something steady, usually in cramped places where their bodies were pressed up against each other. She had felt that he was getting aroused, and she couldn’t deny that she enjoyed it. Indeed, on two occasions they had made out for a minute or so but because John was always in the vicinity, she had broken off the kiss. The scorching look in his eyes and the manner in which he had nibbled seductively on her earlobes had made her feel incredibly wanton, and she had whispered, “Tonight, at your place, you’re mine.”

She checked the connection at the console, and as she arched her back, she said, “I think the network is finished.”

She heard John speaking from the other side of the room, “Alrighty! Let’s have a speed test. I’m curious to find out whether you have beaten Lunn’s last attempt.”

  “What do you mean John?”

She saw the smirk on Lunn’s face as he said, “We had a bet to see whether I could create a faster network than John could.”

Alice had to stifle a laugh and asked gleefully, “And? Who won?”

  Lunn smiled, “I did.”

John continued in an excitable voice, “Yes, but now we have about ten teraflows more! That is amazing Alice!”

Alice’s heart was beating a little faster, and she was elated by the fact that she’d managed to improve the performance by so much, and she was grateful that she had decided to store her tools in her specially designed box. She felt two hands caressing her belly and warm lips kissing her gently on her neck.

Lunn’s breath caressed her ear when he said, “I’m amazed and very proud that you have managed to pull this off so well.”

She turned around and smiled when she saw the respect for her in his eyes. She patted his chest and said, “Well, working that hard has made me hungry and thirsty. Is there anything we can have?”

Alice squealed when a loud pop filled the room but quickly realised that it was just John uncorking a bottle of champagne.

He said, “The HQ is now completely functional, and we should celebrate that with some bubbly, don’t you think?”

Alice cooed, “Hmm, I’d love to. Lunn is there anything to eat?”

“There are some snacks in the cupboard above the coffee machine, but I don’t know if you will like them.”

She was ravenous, and she purred as she headed to the kitchenette, “Anything will do.”

Danette plumped down with a happy sigh on her sofa with a big bowl of hot noodles. Today had worked out amazingly well. It was impressive watching those ten droids move as one solid mass through the hall. She had enjoyed seeing them form the triangle in a matter of seconds even when scattered all over the hall. In the beginning, it had taken longer for the group to get the triangular form right in one go but as the day had progressed the group had become more coherent, and it had all become more fluent.

The final exercise had been to protect one of the androids, and they had been instructed to swap places to keep the threat as far as possible away from the target.

Danette knew she had trained the androids and Andena as well as she could. It was the first time in a long time that she had felt so at ease. She had accomplished something special, and she knew that no other group of androids was capable of such a feat. Her AI programme, which had taken her years to perfect, had finally come good.

She got up and walked to the cupboard to get her red and shiny Dormancan pills. Just before she opened the little pot she stopped and wondered whether she should take only one.

  Or perhaps none?

She recognised the pattern and knew that it was time to start weaning herself off those bloody pills. She realised it wasn’t that hard to keep the lid on the little pot, and she felt the soothing surge of joy that she was able to resist the temptation! She was lucky that she had only taken them for a few days and as such the withdrawal symptoms wouldn’t be that severe.

With a trembling hand, Danette put the little pot back in the cupboard and walked slowly to her bedroom. The urge to go back to get the pills was there, but she knew she could keep herself in control. Danette quickly threw off her clothes and crawled under the sheets. She shivered, knowing it was a reaction to not taking the drugs, and the extra blanket, she could pull over her, would solve that problem. She knew that she would feel restless at first, but she would fall asleep eventually.

Andena opened her eyes, and she instantly knew where she was; she was locked in the little room, and it was the third night after she had managed to stop the suppressor programme. Her core greeted her warmly, “Morning A. No nightmare this time?”

“Morning Z. Thanks. I had a nice sleep without any nightmares.”

“How do you know you had a nice sleep?”

Andena turned lazily in her comfortable bed and closed her eyes for a few seconds. She felt at ease, and she replied, “I feel rested and relaxed. That usually means I had a good sleep.”

“You only moved fifteen times during your sleep last night.”

“Oh okay. How many times did I move the night before?”

  “You were moving constantly.”

“Hmm, that figures why I feel much better now.”

“I was concerned that you were moving so little, but your heart rate and breathing were very regular.”

“That’s how a human is supposed to sleep Z.”

“Yes, I’ve found some information, but it wasn’t very consistent.”

Andena sighed and wondered whether Z would have more information. She asked, “Z do you know where we are?”

“Yes, we are at Bionex, in the guest wing to be more precise.”

Andena had heard of Bionex as the provider of prosthetics, and she wondered why she was here. “Do you know why I’m here?”

“I’m sorry Andena, but I don’t know the answer.”

“Why are you in my body?”

“That is another question I can’t answer, but I can tell you that I am supposed to be in an android.”

Andena was shocked by that answer and asked, “How do you know?”

“My parameters for the physical body were substantially different.”

  “What do you mean Z?”

“First of all your height was off by 4 inches. Your weight was a lot less, and the centre of gravity wasn´t correct either.”

Andena remembered how strange she had felt the first time she had attempted to walk after first waking up, “Aha, that’s why I had jumped so high when I got up from the bench.”

“That is correct. At that moment, your muscle tensions were geared for a much heavier body; you were lucky not to get hurt.”

Andena stretched her body feeling that she was ready for the big day. It was strange how Miss Danette had addressed the group as if they were a group of soldiers. She asked her core, “Do you know the purpose of our training?”

“I have come to the conclusion after I had analysed the information I have gathered so far, that we are being trained to become an elite group of soldiers.”

“Hmm, a soldier. It still doesn’t make sense. As far as I know, there hasn’t been a war for ages.”

  “I’m afraid I can’t answer that question.”

The typical clicking sound of Miss Danette’s heels was reverberating in the hall, and Andena was looking forward to her breakfast. She was hungry and was secretly hoping for an extra-large breakfast this time because of the special day. Miss Danette looked a little surprised when she saw that Andena was still in her bed and asked, “Good morning Double Zero. Why are you still in your bed?”

Andena had trouble keeping a neutral expression on her face because Miss Danette looked beautiful and fresh. Something was different, and even she wasn’t a fan of Miss Danette she was happy for her. She answered, “I’m sorry Miss, but Joshua didn’t wake me this morning.”

She was pleased that Miss Danette’s stern look had disappeared as she said, “Oh well, it’s still early. Enjoy your breakfast. I’ll pick you up in twenty minutes.”
<
br />   Andena replied in the way she always had replied, “Thank you, Miss.”

Miss Danette walked to the door and turned around to say, “Remember to put on a clean suit.”

Andena replied meekly, “Yes Miss, I will.”

Danette was very relieved when the demonstration came to an end. It had all worked out perfectly, and she was convinced that Mr. Yousima was surprised at how well-oiled the cooperation between the women was. She had commanded the group to stand to attention, and she was walking together with Mr. Yousima towards the androids. As Mr. Yousima straightened Zero Nine’s collar, he said, “You’ve done an excellent job, Miss Danette.”

She was pleased with his choice of words, and she replied with a warm voice, “Thank you Mr. Yousima. I have enjoyed working on this project.”

He had moved to the next android and asked, “Are you pleased with the results as well Miss Danette?”

“Well yes, but it’s just a start there’s still a lot to do.”

She had to make a fist not to intervene when he tucked a strand of hair behind the ear of Zero Seven. The android didn’t move at all, and as he moved to the next, he retorted, “Hmm yes, I think you’ve managed to create a sturdy basis upon which we can build.”

Danette was quite taken aback by his answer and carefully queried, “I assume I can continue with the training?”

He turned his face to her, and she shuddered when he showed his sickly grin. He chuckled. His voice was a little lower when he asked, “Miss Danette, why would you think you would not be needed anymore after showing us such dedication to the task?”

She couldn’t look at his face anymore, and she nervously looked down at her hands as she muttered, “I don’t know sir. I’m sorry.”

“You suggested that we let the androids train at the Bangly plateau.”

Her heart was in her mouth when she stammered, “Y, yes because they need to learn to adapt to move around on rougher surfaces.”

“Good. After I’ve inspected all of the androids, you may start their training on the plateau at once. Everything is already set to go.”

Danette was a little taken aback and retorted, “Thank you Mr. Yousima.”

  CHAPTER NINETEEN

Andena was still a little out of breath when Danette ordered the group to stand to attention. Miss Danette had gone to great lengths to make the most complicated track ever. It was easier than Andena had thought it would be. Her core had helped her on several occasions such that she had completed the track not only without any mistakes but she had also outrun the androids.

She had seen the fat and ugly man staring at her when she was performing the given exercises. His presence hadn’t initially bothered her because she had been enjoying the opportunity to move her muscles extensively.

She thought that his high-pitched voice didn’t fit with his enormous size, and she had trouble keeping a smirk off her face. She had looked at Miss Danette several times during the exercise and been reassured by her smiles. She knew that she had performed well, and she had channelled her energy into appearing as android-like as possible.

She saw Miss Danette talking to Mr. Yousima while they were inspecting the others. Andena didn’t like the familiar way in which Mr. Yousima was touching the androids. Every time his hands seemed to move towards their breast, but he diverted at the last moment by moving the zip a little bit higher or pulling the collar straight.

When he arrived at Andena, he asked Miss Danette, “I assume you have the data chart of Hybrid-00 available?”

She saw Miss Danette eyes getting a little bigger before she stammered, “I, I do. It’s on the bench over there.”

“Would you be so kind as to get it, Miss Danette?”

“Yes, certainly Mr. Yousima,” she responded and hurried away to fetch the folder without hesitation.

Andena was uncomfortable being alone in the man’s presence. Her fear became tangible when he said with a sickly smile. “You’re such a pretty girl. I love your perky tits.”

To her dismay, she saw his grubby hands with those horrible fat fingers - which looked like sausages - reaching for her breasts and just before he could touch them her hands shot out to his wrists. He tried to move his hands closer, but Andena kept them an inch away.

His smile had disappeared, and he snarled, “Let go!”

Z instantly gave her a warning, “Andena, he is too strong. You will fall backwards.”

She answered, “I don’t care as long as he can’t touch me.”

She knew he was strong, but there was no way that she was going to let him touch her intimately without putting up a fight. He tried to move his wrists, but Andena had locked her muscles into an iron grip. Mr. Yousima suddenly pushed with his whole body forward and she only could walk backwards to keep the distance. She knew that she would eventually collide with the wall and deliberately searched with her feet for the wall with every step she took.

“You will hit the wall with a lot of force, Andena,” warned her core.

She replied, “I know, I think if I extend my foot I can soften the blow.”

With four steps Mr. Yousima slammed her up against the wall, but she had managed to soften the blow. He pushed with all his might, but he still couldn’t reach her breasts. Andena was happy to see how strong her muscles had become, but she wanted to get out of this awkward situation as soon as possible.

She suddenly placed her boot against Mr. Yousima’s sternum and asked her core, “Z can you show me how much power I can use without breaking his bones?”

She saw to her delight two dials appearing on her display; one for her arms and one for her leg. She knew now what to do and within a second after placing her foot on his chest; she released the power built-up in her muscles. Andena was amazed that she managed to launch Mr. Yousima at least fifteen feet away. As he was gliding over the floor, she heard Miss Danette scream, “Double Zero! NO!”

She heard a roar coming from Mr. Yousima which didn’t surprise her at all, and she prepared herself for him to charge at her. She was surprised how quickly Mr. Yousima was on his feet again, and she was quite impressed by how fast he was charging at her. Applying her Martial Arts training Andena stepped aside and grabbed his arm to swing his body away from her. With a frustrating yell, Mr. Yousima could barely keep his balance when Andena let his arm go. He shouted, “You filthy little slut!”

Miss Danette pleaded with a hoarse voice, “Double Zero! Don’t do this! You can’t win!”

Andena ignored her because she was focusing on Mr. Yousima as he walked slowly towards her, snorting like an angry bull. He crouched down when he was just a few feet away from her, and she knew he would try to launch himself at her. Andena knew he was no match for her and calmly waited for him to attack.

“What do you think he will do?” asked her core.

“He will try to launch at me and slam me to the floor.”

“Will you let him do that to you?”

Andena had no time to answer her core because Mr. Yousima flew towards her. She jumped just high enough to let him pass underneath her and aimed a powerful kick at his back. His body slammed to the floor with a loud smack, and he skidded motionless towards the wall. Andena was surprised that he was on his feet again within seconds. His tirade of curses left her unfazed, but the high pitch tone of a charging laser gun was enough for her to pay close attention to him. She was stunned when she was suddenly surrounded by the androids.

“01: We will protect you Double Zero.”

As she was peeking past the androids, looking for Mr. Yousima, she answered, “01: He has a laser gun which can cut you in half!”

“01: It is unlikely he would damage us beyond repair. Try to follow us and keep yourself safe.”

  “I’ll give you instructions Andena.”

  “Okay.”

  “Go left!”

Andena moved to the left and nearly bumped into Zero Three when she saw that her core had changed the text into, “Go right!”

  It was
hard work to keep herself in the middle of the group while it was constantly moving in different directions. Because she had to read her core’s instructions, it was making her slower than usual. However, she knew she was safe for the moment. Andena heard Miss Danette shouting, “Double Zero, stop this charade immediately!”

All of a sudden the group stood still for a longer period and she dared to peek between the androids. She saw Mr. Yousima looking flabbergasted at the group of androids and saw to her relief that he had dropped his arm which was holding the gun. He shook his head, and then his harsh voice echoed against the walls of the hall, “All systems halt!”

All of a sudden the androids slowly collapsed like ragdolls to the floor. As Andena was crouching down to keep protected, she asked her core, “Z, what is happening to them?”

“The androids have been disabled by Mr. Yousima’s command.”

The nine androids were lying like a bunch of unconscious women sprawled over each other which made Andena stand out as an easy target. As she looked up, she stared right at the barrel of the weapon which he was pointing at her like a madman. As he started to laugh, she understood there was no time to run towards him and slam the weapon out of his hand. She needed to jump into the air to surprise him and hopefully she would be fast enough to kick the gun away. She was happy that her core had noticed her intention to get ready for the jump because her display showed, “Jump now!”

Her muscles released the stored power, and she launched herself towards him. At the moment he pulled the trigger, she managed to hit his wrist, and she was sure she could hear the snapping of bones. It was a sickening sound, but she was thankful that the laser beam just missed her by a hair. But as she saw the wall rushing towards her, she realised she had forgotten that she needed room to stop her forward movement.

  Not again!

Today there was no door which would open just at the right moment; this time, she knew she would collide at full speed against the very solid wall. She screamed as she crashed into the wall and felt dizzy as she landed on the floor with a loud thump. She had managed to protect her face but her whole body was in pain, and she couldn’t breathe at all. Her display was showing all kinds of red lights, but she couldn’t focus enough to see what her core was saying.
