The Altimer

by Samuel Isaacson

Despite having been made unavailable, the communications log on the Altimer is complete and so you will be free when you recover to see mission control and – apparently – your family and friends sending you messages long after the ship’s course changed. There is even a promise that it will be possible to introduce you to your surviving family, which you anticipate being a very odd conversation.

The next weeks are due to be spent giving press interviews and being taken around Mars and eventually earth as heroes. Everyone you meet seems to simply want to hear the Altimer story on repeat.

The Altimer itself remains in quarantine, and the generally-held belief is that all alien life on board has now been destroyed. The collective navies of earth and Mars are already planning a return trip to Entram, with one potential option being to eliminate this threat once and for all.

The only blank space in James’ timeline is the period between the team being extracted from the Altimer and then being arrested. The general consensus from the scientific community is that something would have happened since then if there were anything to worry about, so life for New Gaia and your team is on its way back to normal.

The nurse who checks on you after Catalina and Pauline leave gives you a quick, friendly smile as she goes on her rounds and a wink.

At least, it looked like a wink…

The story continues in New Gaia, available on Amazon. For the latest news, connect with Samuel on his website.
