Ask Me Nicely

Sal stretched her neck to give him better access. “Oh, no,” she said. “I think it’s your turn to tell me all the things you love about me.”
“Ah, well, that’s easy,” he said, his whiskers scraping against her ear as his mouth brushed her temple. “I love how brave you are to still be so together after what you’ve been through. I love what a great vet you are. And how people respond to you. I love how Gemma loves you and how you stepped up for Harry.”
He turned her around quickly, and Sal yelped a little and hung on to his shoulders as he lifted her slightly, pushing her on to the kitchen counter, the slippery fabric of her sundress easing the process.
He slid his hands onto her thighs, wicked intent in his eyes. “I love this dress and I really freaking love this counter.”
Sal’s breath hitched as goose bumps spread like wildfire from her knees up. “We’ll get it bronzed,” she said.
“Or reinforced at the very least,” he agreed.
Sal was conscious of the warmth of his hands and the bareness of her knees and the erotic press of his thighs against her calves.
“I love how your mouth tastes when it’s full of spun sugar,” he said, watching her face as his palms slowly inched up her legs, the dress following. “And I love how you look with fairy floss on your breasts.” The dress went higher. “I especially love how you come when I’m eating it out of you.”
His hands slid all the way to the tops of her thighs, her legs completely bared to his view. “And if you were to”—he smiled—“ask me nicely, I might be tempted to remind you of my technique.”
Sal’s gaze locked with his, every cell in her body begging for what he was offering. Even the air in her lungs felt heavy, drenched with anticipation.
She cocked an eyebrow. “Please?”
He grinned. “Lie back.”
Sal shook her head. “Not yet.” And she grabbed his head and kissed him. Long and deep and wet and full of all of the love she had inside for this man who had helped her live and love again.
When she pulled away, they were both breathing hard.
“Lie back,” he whispered. “Let me love you.”
She did as he asked, looking up at the man she loved as he lowered his head. She was going to let him love her forever. And she was going to love him right back.

Acknowledgments
I am so thrilled to be getting Sal’s story into the hands of readers. So many people contacted me after No More Mr. Nice Guy asking me for her story that I couldn’t not write it. Sal’s story was, however, much harder to write as the weight of everyone’s expectations pressed in. She was such a well-liked character I didn’t want to disappoint anyone. But the truth of Sal’s story—her life—is steeped in tragedy and therefore, necessarily, a little grittier than Josie and Mack’s had been. I hope I struck a good balance between the ballsy Sal that everyone loved and the emotional tumult she underwent as she struggled to resist loving again and opening herself up to a whole new world of potential hurt.
Helping me find this balance was Liz Pelletier, who is the most awesome brainstormer an author could hope for—without her I wouldn’t have seen the wood for the trees. I’d also like to thank her and Robin Haseltine from the bottom of my heart for being my Brazen cheer squad and helping me cross off one of the big-ticket items on my author bucket list. I will never forget hitting the USA Today list and I know I couldn’t have done it without their unflinching determination.
Another great brainstormer I must thank for her help on AMN is the fabulous Rachel Bailey. Thanks to our Skype session, I finally had the beginning of the book I’d been struggling with. She helped me see that the scene I’d scheduled for further on was actually the perfect place to start it and it all just flowed from there.
Thanks also to Stacy Abrams for her commas and for struggling through unfamiliar phrases, terms, and animals. We both know more about dog shows now than we probably ever thought we would!
Thanks most of all to the readers. Knowing someone on the other side of the country or the other side of the world is getting enjoyment out of my stories is the biggest rush ever, and your support of me has been awesome.
