“So why didn’t you answer the phone?”

He sucked his teeth. “I was sleep.”

“But you knew what time I get out of school.”

  “Yeah, but I was sleep.”

“You’re so fucking considerate,” she snapped as she folded her arms.

He turned the volume up on the radio not wanting to hear her mouth.

She pouted the entire ride home. “Tomorrow, I’m going to spend the night at Cali’s,” she told him when he turned off the car.

  “What?”

“I’m spending the night at Cali’s. That way you won’t have to drive all the way back out there.”

“No, you not,” he told her as he got out of the car.

“What?” she asked as she got out as well.

“You heard me,” he told her as she stepped on the porch.

She sighed. “Whatever. I’m probably going to stay until the end of the week.”

“Didn’t you just hear me? I said no, you not.”

Necole looked at him is disbelief. “How are you going to tell me what to do?”

“Look, I’m not about to argue with you. You ain’t spending the night at nobody’s house,” he said as they walked into the house.

“Whatever,” Necole rolled her eyes as she went to their room to find something to sleep in. She then went into the bathroom to take a bath. She took extra-long in the tub. She soaked while talking to her friends on the phone.

“Necole, don’t forget to bring those shoes tomorrow,” Cali told her.

“What shoes are you borrowing?” Corrine wanted to know while they were on three-way.

“Don’t worry about it,” Cali said. “Cole, I was thinking that we can go to the football game tomorrow. What do you think?”

“Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.”

“Yeah, yeah. So, what are we doing for your b-day, Necole? Are we still going to club Hush?” Corrine asked.

“You know it,” Necole laughed. “But um…let me call ya’ll back. I’m about to get out this tub and hit the sack. See ya’ll at school tomorrow.”

“Bye, girl,” both Cali and Corrine said at the same time.

Necole placed her phone on the toilet and lifted out of the water. She dried off while looking in the mirror. Her breasts seemed slightly bigger. She cuffed them while turning sideways to look at her ass. “I need to go on a diet,” she mumbled. Her stomach was still flat, but she had gained a few pounds. She figured that it was because of Ms. Brenda’s good cooking. Necole hadn’t eaten that good in all her life.

She threw on her night clothes and grabbed her dirty clothes off the floor. She went into their bedroom to find that Carmelo wasn’t there. She tossed her clothes in a hamper and then went and searched the house for him. After checking outside, she realized that his car wasn’t there either. He was definitely gone. She figured that he couldn’t have gone far, so she went to bed.

The next morning, she woke up and he still wasn’t there. It was time for her to get up for school, so she began getting ready. Once she was fully groomed and clothed, he still wasn’t home so she called him.

“Carmelo, where are you? You know that I have to go to school.”

“I’ll be there in a few.”

  “What’s a few?”

He sucked his teeth. “Look, I said that I’ll be there,” he snapped before ending the call.

Necole was beyond pissed. She couldn’t believe that he would just hang up on her. She tried calling back, but he wouldn’t answer. Three hours passed by and he still wasn’t home. Every five minutes she would check out the window.

“Necole, where Melo at?” Chocolate asked as she walked into the living room.

“I don’t know. That’s what I’m trying to figure out.”

“Don’t you have to go to school today?”

  “Yeah,” Necole replied sadly.

“Man, that nigga always doing hoe ass shit. He knows that he could have brought you to school.”

“I know,” Necole agreed, getting all cocked up. She was frustrated and felt helpless.

Carmelo didn’t come home until three that afternoon. He walked in the house along with Lil’ Daddy and some other dude named Meech. They were all laughing and smelled like pounds of weed.

Necole sat on the couch frowned up, watching TV.

  “How you doing?” Meech asked.

Necole just sat there not bothering to respond, although she was slightly attracted to him. Meech was light brown and had a mouth full of gold. He resembled the rapper Juvenile to her. Still, he had seediness about himself and that made her already repulsed by him.

“Is this one of Chocolate’s friends?” Meech asked Carmelo who had walked into the kitchen.

“What?” Carmelo asked, not hearing him.

“Is this pretty thang your sister’s friend?” he asked lower while staring down at Necole. Lil’ Daddy stood back with a grin.

Since Necole was pissed at Melo, she didn’t say a word. “Can I be your friend, lil’ mama?” he pressed.

“Meech, what was you saying?” Carmelo asked as he came from the kitchen sipping on some bottled water.

“I said, put me down with lil’ mama right here.”

Carmelo looked at him strangely. “Her?” he pointed at Necole.

“Yeah,” Meech nodded as he continued to gaze at her.

“Oh, she got a nigga.” Carmelo shrugged. “Ain’t that right, baby,” he said as he playfully pushed her hand that her head was resting on.

  “Stop,” she snapped.

“Why? You mad? You mad?” he taunted her as he kept tilting her chin and she kept pushing his hand away. “I thought that you were spending a night at your friend’s house? What happened?”

She shook her head. “Don’t fucking start with me. You made me miss school for what? To prove a point?”

“Not at all. I figured that one of your friends would come pick you up,” he replied sarcastically.

“Fuck you,” she lashed as she got up and stormed into their bedroom. Then she slammed the door.

“Damn, Black. Where you find her at?” Meech questioned.

Carmelo chuckled. “I met her through this nigga,” he said, pointing at Lil’ Daddy.

“Damn, you know all the bitches. When you gon hook me up?” Meech asked Lil’ Daddy.

“Nigga, I don’t hook nobody up. He pulled her on his own. Shit, I would have got her for myself before I’d give her to anybody,” Lil’ Daddy said. “That little muthafucka finer than her yellow ass friend.”

“Oh, you fuck with her friend?”

“Yeah, but now the bitch pregnant. So now she ain’t shit but a headache.”

“Shit…you busted in her, so you must have wanted that headache,” Carmelo told him.

“Fuck you, nigga. Let’s see if you be saying that shit when her little ass in that room come up pregnant.”

“And if she do…I must be okay with that since I fuck her raw. I know what can happen and I accept that. I ain’t crazy like you, nigga.”

“I hear you, nigga. But she ain’t gon be around for too much longer anyway.”

“Why you say that?” Melo asked with a raised brow.

“She’s spoiled, nigga. How long do you think she’s gone be happy in the hood? She was living in a big ass house and driving her own car before she got with you. So, you pulling stunts leaving her at home ain’t gon do shit but push her back home. You keep this up and in a few weeks, she gon be begging mommy to come get her.”

  “Nigga, she ain’t going nowhere.”

“Alright, little nigga. You know everything,” Lil’ Daddy shrugged.

“Man, why you wishing bad on a nigga?”

“I ain’t wishing nothing on you. I’m just telling you. You thank you big shit ‘cause you got that little broad in there. Yeah, she fine. Yeah, she pretty. Yeah, she smart. And what you got? Evidently she see something in yo ass, but she got way more going for herself than you do. So, if you start fucking up this early in the game, sh
e gon chunk your ass the deuces.”

Carmelo gave him a snide smile. “Yeah, okay nigga. Keep hating. Like I said…my bitch ain’t going nowhere.”

  Chapter 7

“I’ma be out here at three thirty,” Carmelo told Necole as he pulled up in front of her school.

“Okay,” she said as she leaned in and kissed him.

“Be good,” he whispered as he brushed his lips against hers.

“You too,” she laughed as she pulled away. “Let me get in here,” she said as she climbed out of his car.

Necole walked into the school just before the bell rung. She’d been getting to school at the same time every day, but she hadn’t missed a day since Carmelo had tripped out weeks ago. She figured he’d get his mind right after she withheld the pussy from him. Now, he had been a good boy and had promised to make her eighteenth birthday very special. She couldn’t wait for tomorrow to come.

“Hey, mama,” Mark spoke as she walked down the hall. This was the first time he’d said anything to her in two months.

“Oh, so now you’re speaking to me?”

“Pretty much. I had to let you marinate on it for a while.”

“You’re so full of shit, you know that?”

“Naw, I ain’t know that. So, I hear you still with that nigga, Melo.”

“Yeah,” she sighed. “And how do you know him?”

  “He’s from my hood.”

“Your hood? You’re from Fifth Ward?”

“Yeah,” he nodded as he walked with her down the hall.

“So, how did you end up out here?”

“I got blessed, man. That’s all I can say.”

  “I hear you.”

His light brown eyes searched her body. He then moved in closer. “I see that ass is getting fatter,” he whispered. “That nigga fucking you right?”

“Wouldn’t you love to know,” she smirked.

“You want me to know too,” he smiled before walking off.

She stood in the middle of the hall trying to get her bearings. He’d definitely caused her temperature to rise.

By the time lunch came around, Necole was starving. She didn’t even look for her friends as she went through the lunch line and ordered three slices of pizza and a bag of Doritos with cheese. She grabbed an apple juice to wash it down.

“Damn, Necole…slow down,” Cali said as she watched her eat as they all sat at a lunch table.

“I have never seen you eat like this, Necole. Is Carmelo over there starving you?” Corrine asked.

Amber sat back and observed Necole’s behavior with a raised brow. Something wasn’t right and she thought that she knew exactly what it was. “Bitch, did you let that nigga knock you up?”

Necole looked up while chewing her food. “What? Girl, you are nuts. I’m just hungry. You know we smoked a few blunts on the way here.”

“That’s why your eyes were red this morning. Why didn’t you bring us some weed?” Corrine asked.

“I don’t know,” Necole shrugged. “I’ll bring two blunts tomorrow.”

“Cole, who did your hair?” Amber questioned.

  “Carmella.”

“I thought that you had gotten a touch up at the beauty shop. She has your shit looking just as healthy as when you go to the professionals.”

“I know. She does hair at their house. She has a lot of customers.”

“Well, how much does she charge?” Cali asked.

“I don’t know. She does my hair for free.”

  “Shit, I need a sister-in-law like her.”

“Don’t we all?” Amber asked. “So, what are you doing for your b-day tomorrow?”

  “Um…I don’t know.”

“Wait, you don’t know? I thought that we were all going to Club Hush?” Cali asked.

“I want to, but I’ll just have to see.”

“See what? Don’t tell me that you have to ask Carmelo first.”

“No, I don’t have to ask him anything. He was just saying that he had something planned for me. So, when I get home and find out what’s up I’ll call ya’ll.”

“You better and if you don’t, I will be calling you by nine,” Amber said.

  “I will.”

At three thirty, Carmelo was outside waiting as promised, but Necole had gotten held up with her counselor so she hadn’t come out yet. The young girls were breaking their necks trying to get a glimpse of who was driving the ultra-clean Cadillac. A few chicks were even bold enough to step right in front of the car and take a look at him. He gave them a winning smile, but never uttered a word.

At three forty-five, Necole emerged from the building wearing a black and white off-the-shoulder striped belly sweater with black leggings. The black stilettos she wore made her walk even meaner. A long, black beaded costume necklace dangled around her neck, she had huge black bangles on both wrists and big hoop earrings in her ears. She was a person big on accessories. She carried her all black Louie bag on her arm while she walked like a model. An instant smirk hit Carmelo’s face as he watched his bitch strut across the courtyard. The smile quickly faded when he saw Mark approach her. She turned around and gave him her undivided attention. Melo gripped the steering wheel as he watched his gal smile in another nigga’s face.

After two long minutes, Necole walked over to his car. “Hey, baby,” she smiled as she slid in. She leaned over to kiss him, but he tilted his head away.

  “What’s wrong?”

“What the fuck were you talking to that nigga about?” he asked as his nostrils flared.

“He was asking me about a class assignment.”

“A class assignment? You expect me to believe that little BK nigga is doing school work? I just saw the little nigga on the block two days ago.”

“What are you talking about?” Necole asked confused.

“I’m talking about you and that slick ass nigga. What the fuck was he doing in your face?”

  “I just told you!”

“Okay,” he nodded as he pulled away from the school. “Who the fuck you think you hollering at?!” he barked as he pushed her head into the window.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?!” she screamed as she clawed at his face. His car swerved a little as he tussled with her. “Let me out of this car!” she demanded as she tried to open the door. He sped up.

“What the fuck is wrong with you? You stupid? You gon get out of a moving vehicle?”

  “Pull over then!” she shouted.

“I ain’t doing shit. You can hop your ass out at this light though,” he barked as he pulled up at a stop light.

“Fine,” she snapped as she did just that.

“What the fuck…ay, bring your ass back here!” he shouted as she left his door wide open and hurried across the street. “Boy, this broad don lost her fuckin mind,” he mumbled to himself. As soon as the light changed, he did a U-turn and caught up with Necole as she walked down the sidewalk. “Get your ass back in this car, girl.”

She kept on walking. He pulled over and placed on his hazard lights.

“Necole!” he shouted as he hopped out of his car and went after her.

“Leave me alone!” she yelled as she sped up.

He had to break out running to catch her. “Bring your ass on,” he gritted as he snatched her up and dragged her back to his car.

“No, let me go!” she resisted as he shoved her in the car. He slammed the door shut, but she opened it right back.

“Okay, you wanna play, huh?” he snapped as he yanked her out of the car, opened the back door, pushed her in, activated the child safety lock and slammed the door. He ran to other side and hopped back in. He pulled away from the curb while she continuously hit him across his head. “You better stop, girl.”

“Let me out!” she screamed hysterically.

“Stop that shit!” he barked while his voice was laced with venom. Necole finally got the message and sat back.

They rode back home in silence. Once he pulled into the driveway, she hu
rriedly scooted to the other side of the car and pushed the door open. She hurled all over the pavement.

“What’s wrong with you?” Chocolate asked from the porch. “And why is she riding in the backseat, Melo?”

He sucked his teeth. “Man, she trippin’.”

“Trippin’ how?” his sister asked as she eyed Necole.

“I go to pick her up, huh.”

  “Okay.”

“She came out the building late and then stood outside flirting with that nigga Mark from Brewster Park.”

“Mark? What was he doing out there?”

“He goes to school out there. You know Big Steve is his uncle and that nigga live out there with him.”

“Oh, okay. But are you sure that she was flirting with him?”

“Man, I know what I saw. But anyway…I barely shoved her head and she went crazy on me.”

Chocolate laughed. “Is that why you have all those scratches in your face?”

“Hell, yeah,” he said as he looked over at Necole and saw that she was finally getting completely out of the car.

“Damn, you sick as a dog,” Chocolate said as Necole approached them.

She stood there, chest heaving up and down, for a few seconds before swinging on Carmelo. “You bitch ass nigga! Don’t you ever put you fucking hands on me again!” she lashed as she connected blows.

“Stop!” Melo gritted as he placed her in a bear hug.

“Let me go, Carmelo!” she fumed.

“I ain’t letting you go until you calm down. You calm?”

  “Let me go!”

“Naw, that don’t sound calm to me.”

“You better let me go,” she gritted.

  “I can’t do that.”

She tried with all her might to break free. “I. Said. To. Let. Me. Go!” she let out.

He pushed her against his car. “Stop it, main. You got all my neighbors out here looking at me,” he told her as he looked around. Everybody had stepped outside to see the loud commotion.

  “Fuck these people!” she growled.

Chocolate stood laughing. “Brother, you turned her into a hood rat.”

“Man, shut up. Chocolate, main…you always instigating,” Carmelo snapped.

“Get off of me,” Necole said calmly.

  “You good now?”

  “Yeah.”
