Bonded Love

  “I love you, Blaze Carter.”

  Blaze kissed her with all the passion she could have hoped for. The years ahead of them were looking bright. Blaze made love to her again while whispering words of adoration and love. She fell asleep with her head on Blaze’s chest, her steady heartbeat reassuring her that their love was a bond that would endure whatever was to come.

  Epilogue

  A little more than two years later…

  “Hey, babe, will you heat up a bottle?” Trinity called out the door.

  “I knew it was coming, so I’m already on it.” Blaze ducked her head in the doorway, smiling like the happy mother she was. “You two okay?”

  Her heart tightened a little, overflowing with the love Blaze showed her every hour of every day, just like she’d promised during their wedding vows more than a year ago. “We’re perfect,” she said. Blaze swaggered into the room, making Trinity smile more. If she thought Blaze strutted before, since the baby’s arrival she’d turned into a peacock—all her feathers on display.

  “You most certainly are.” Blaze kissed her, then looked at their son. “As for this little guy…” Blaze rubbed Elijah’s head. “It remains to be seen.”

  Trinity was taken aback. “What? What do you mean?”

  “We’ll have to see how he handles his first chisel.”

  Trinity laughed. That was how their life had been. Encouraging each other; reassuring each other that no matter what happened, they’d handle it together. The doorbell rang and she smiled again. She finished dressing the baby and picked him up.

  “Hey…” DJ said. “Is it okay if I hang out with you guys for a little while?”

  “Of course, it is. He was just going to have a bottle. Want to feed him?”

  DJ’s eyes lit up as she took the baby from her. “Seriously?” Trinity nodded. “So cool.” She left the room talking baby talk.

  She and DJ had made amends not long after Blaze announced their engagement. Trinity understood DJ would always be a part of Blaze’s life and she wanted Blaze and DJ to remain solid in their friendship. So, when Blaze asked her permission to name DJ as a guardian, she’d agreed. DJ loved Blaze, and any person who loved Blaze would do everything in their power to do the best for Blaze’s child. Trinity could live with that. She leaned against the archway watching Blaze and DJ with Elijah.

  Blaze gave DJ instructions. “Keep him upright so he doesn’t choke, and always test the temperature no matter what.”

  Her face was so serious, Trinity covered her mouth to stifle a giggle.

  DJ rolled her eyes. “You do know I’ve done this like a million times with my nieces and nephews, right?”

  “Yeah, but they weren’t my son.” Blaze glanced up. “Our son.”

  “All the more reason to trust me. Isn’t that the reason Kelly and I are his guardians?”

  Blaze stood though Trinity could tell she was hesitant. “Fine. Pay attention to what you’re doing.” DJ ignored her and offered the bottle to the baby. Blaze just shook her head and stood by her side.

  “I’m going to have to keep my eye on those two.”

  Trinity placed her hand on her chest. “I had no idea life could be like this.”

  Blaze snaked her fingers in her hair and pulled her closer. “I love you.”

  Trinity didn’t need convincing. Blaze often showed her how much by the things she did, like encouraging her to include her family in their lives. The only one she wanted was her younger sister, Jane, who lived close by and loved spending time with the three of them.

  After a couple of minutes of staring into Blaze’s beautiful eyes, she smiled again. She did that a lot. “I love you, too, Blaze. Even when I don’t tell you, I love you.”

  It was here, with Blaze, that she’d found her future and it no longer frightened her. Blaze would never let her feel she had to do anything on her own again, and she looked forward to the years ahead, knowing Blaze would always be at her side, cheering her on.

  Renee Roman has lived in upstate New York her entire life and can’t imagine living anywhere there isn’t a change of seasons. She works at a local college and writes lesbian romance, intrigue, and erotica in her spare time.
