My ears were beginning to buzz and my heart was pounding. I hated confrontation, and even if Cheryl wasn't mad I was going to have to explain myself somehow. Then I had to make Carter see that I had been right all along. This evening had turned to crap, and it had started off so well.

I had just stepped into my yellow capri pants when Cheryl walked back into the living room. I couldn't stop the blush that swamped me, but with this level of embarrassment I would expect no less.

“You couldn't do better than Carter?”

I was taken aback by her words. There was nothing wrong with him and I had done a whole lot worse—many times.

“That's not cool. Carter is great. I really enjoy his company. I like him. A lot.” It felt freeing to be able to tell her that. She didn't say anything for a few seconds and I held my breath waiting for her response, but she surprised me.

  “Good.”

  “Huh?”

“I like it that you're defending him. I know you're both adults, but he's still my little brother and I wouldn't want either of you to get hurt.”

“Are you saying that you think I'll hurt him?” I could hardly speak over the lump growing in my throat.

“I'm saying that you could hurt each other and I don't want that for either of you. It was just shocking, and a visual that I fear will never leave me.”

I cringed at the reminder that she had seen me in the throes with her extremely well endowed brother, but strangely, I noticed that she didn't seem angry. My thoughts suddenly turned from the humiliating encounter of a few minutes ago to the possibility that Carter and I could give it a shot.

“I’m going to head out. Call me later.” I nodded to her as she walked out the door. Carter waited until Cheryl was gone before coming out of the kitchen. I could barely look at him.

  “Are you okay?”

“Of course I’m not.” I dropped my head into my hands. A moment later I felt him sit beside me on the couch.

“Come on, it wasn’t that bad. She didn’t see your junk.”

I snorted into my hand before turning to him. “There is that.”

He leaned sideways and nudged me with his shoulder. “I bet we’ll look back on this and laugh. Even Cheryl would have to admit we looked hot.”

I started laughing at the picture we must have made. I was willing to bet that Cheryl would never walk in without knocking again. Once the laughter started I couldn’t stop it, even when I had tears streaming down my face.

“Omigod, she saw your peen. Let’s never talk about this again, okay?”

He settled back on the couch. “No problem there, but can we finish?”

I leaned forward and pulled his head close, pressing my lips against his for a brief second. Now that Cheryl knew about the two of us I felt like a brick had been lifted off of my chest, and I had a surge of warm feelings mixed with an enormous helping of lust.

  “We’re just getting started.”
