“You know all the right things to say,” she said, holding her face in hopes of keeping the blushing minimal. “I guess, I just want you to know that I don’t know what you want, but as of right now, I enjoy spending time with you and getting to know you, and I would really like to keep doing that. And this,” she said, gesturing to their bodies, definitely blushing now, “but not just this, you know?”
“I know what you mean,” he said, smiling at her awkwardness. “And I would also like all of those things. I’ll tell you what. All this week I’m going to be in London, and unfortunately, I will be in meetings most of the time, but next weekend, let’s go to Paris. We’ll take the train, or my jet, if you want.”
She laughed. “You would have a jet,” she said playfully.
“Normally women swoon at that part, but I like that you laugh,” he said. “So, will you go with me?” He had a pleading look in her eyes that she did not understand coming from him and directed at her, but she adored it.
“Of course I’ll go,” she said. “I’ll make arrangements with the magazine. I’m sure I can come up with something that’s going on in Paris that I should write about.”
“Yes,” he said. “Or this could be a vacation. I hope you know I’m covering the trip. All you need to do is come along.” She could hear that he was speaking in earnest about giving her something and not just to flaunt his ability to pay for everything.
“Okay, mister,” she said, putting up one finger with a smile. “But there’s one condition.”
“Name it,” he said, looking ready for whatever she could throw his way.
“You have to let me practice my French on you,” she responded, rolling over to face him, so that her body was slightly on top of his.
“Oh, you speak French?” he asked, interested in her new positioning, as his hands traveled down her back.
“It’s more of a style, really,” she said, moving in to kiss him. He met her kiss with a new fire and excitement that led them through their second passionate journey together.

The next morning, Alexis awoke to find that Richard had left. There was a yellow rose on the pillow next to her with a note.
I have a meeting this morning and
I didn’t want to wake you.
The front desk is waiting for your breakfast order.
The driver will take you home when you’re ready.
See you for Paris,
RG
She was not quite sure what to think of his note. She was surprised that she had slept through him getting ready and leaving, although they had not let one another sleep until very late. If she would have known that he had a meeting, she would have woken up with him and left when he did. She was not sure if she felt pampered or dismissed by his actions, but she decided she was worrying for no reason.
She showered and dressed, finding that someone had laid out her clothes from the evening before, along with a new and more casual dress that was just her size, with a pair of plain black flats. As much as she did not want to accept these items, she had been embarrassed to leave in her evening gown just moments before; he certainly did seem to think of everything.
With the clarity that comes with the morning, she once again had trouble trusting that she was not a part of some routine of the rich traveling businessman, but she also had to ask herself if she really cared. At this point, she wavered between thinking it was worth it to get involved with him, which most likely meant getting hurt, and just saving herself some sort of dignity and leaving now, but her mind and her heart both told her that was nearly impossible. She would fall hard for this man, if she already hadn’t, and he would let her down; she would once more be able to join the men-hating women’s club that she had never fully been a part of since getting stood up as a prank in eighth grade.
Eventually, she set those thoughts aside and left his hotel for her own. The driver was polite enough, but said little, so she was left with her wavering thoughts on Richard. She could not get over the electricity she felt when she was around him. Now that she was alone and away from all of his belongings, she felt more grounded, more levelheaded. And she still wanted to be with him.
As she gathered her things and stepped out of the car, she thanked the driver and began slowly walking up the steps to her hotel, her mind in some other dream world with Richard.
“Lexi? Is that you?” the familiar voice called out to her making her stop suddenly.
Just a few feet in front of her where he had been pacing, stood the one person she would have never expected to see in that instant, the one person who could turn her new world upside down.
It was Brandon.
