Lisa smiled. Lori had put them in the guest bedroom. Now she could relax, listening for the click of the door, not hearing it, but knowing it would come, that the plan was in motion. Her eyes were glued to the door.

“Dave, why don’t you get a little more comfortable?” suggested Lisa. “In case you want to, you know, what we talked about?”

Lisa had no sooner spoken than Dave was pulling off his pants, his erection poking through his boxers. “Maybe while we are waiting you’d like to come over here and get me warmed up,” he said.

“You looked like you’re pretty warmed up already,” said Lisa. “I don’t want you going off too early.”

“You’re right,” said Dave. “I want to make this last.” He was leering at her. “I can’t wait to see—“

The door opened, and it framed the most exciting thing Lisa may have ever seen. Lori stood in the doorway, regal and elegant as always. Behind her, visible to Lori but not yet to Dave, stood Jamal, just as Lori had remembered him, no, better, his arms on Lori’s waist, his eyes dancing, connecting with Lisa in a way they never had before, his ebony skin drawing in Lisa’s eyes like a black star. Black had never seemed so colorful to Lisa than it did in that moment.

Lori put her hands over Jamal’s, her head leaning back into his chest, he was more than a foot taller than she was. To Lisa, they looked perfect together, she could see how they melded, she could sense their history in just the way they stood, how they touched. Lisa could feel her heart thumping, this was even better than her fantasy, this beautiful man and beautiful woman, together, and she was with them.

Just because this was part of the plan didn’t take away from the beauty of it, the excitement.

Lori reached up to pull Jamal’s head to her, giving him a sensual kiss, her hair cascading over her face, making Lisa want to jump up to move it aside, she wanted to see, shocked that she felt a little jealousy, she wanted to be there, to be part of that kiss.

Lisa’s hand moved to her own mouth, remembering Lori’s lips, tasting them, she could almost taste Jamal as well, as if the three of them could connect through those kisses.

Lori broke away, smiled at Lisa, and disappeared.

All this had taken place in the span of a few seconds, yet to Lisa time had slowed, she knew she’d be able to play it over and over again in her head whenever she wanted. That doorway and what she had witnessed in it had been another blank canvas for her, one that now held a vivid image.

She smiled at Jamal, rising from the bed, beckoning him in.

As soon as Jamal entered the room, Lisa heard Dave’s intake of breath, she imagined him covering his erection, fumbling for his pants maybe, but she didn’t bother to look, she didn’t care, she wasn’t sure if she could look anyway, her eyes were locked on Jamal, his wiry, muscular physique just as she had remembered it, sinuous in his silk shirt, his tight pants.

“What the fuck is this?” yelled Dave.

Jamal ignored him. “Lisa, you look more beautiful than I remember, if that’s even possible. Especially in that amazing outfit.”

Lisa felt herself blush, the compliment sounding so truthful, she had never considered Jamal had given her a second thought, he could probably have had any woman, he had been with Lori, Lisa feeling she paled by comparison.

“Hey!” said Dave. “I said, what’s going on? Who’s this guy?”

Very formally, Lisa said, “Dave, this is Jamal. Jamal, this is my husband, Dave. Lori told you all about him, didn’t she?”

Jamal glanced over at Dave, a small frown marring his lovely features. “She did.” Then Jamal turned back to Lisa. “I’ll do everything I can to help you.”

“To help her what?” squawked Dave.

Only now did Lisa turn to look at Dave, no longer even thinking of him as her husband. Dave was half out of the chair, holding his hand over his crotch, his erection no longer in evidence, he was trying to look at Jamal and not look at him, while reaching for his pants at the same time.

“Jamal’s here to help us,” explained Lisa, like she was talking to a teenager, which was probably pretty accurate. “You said you wanted a threesome, so. . .”

Dave froze, looking from Lisa to Jamal, shock and disbelief on his face, so stunned he momentarily forgot about his pants. “What? You can’t be serious!”

“Of course I am,” said Lisa. “And you are being rude. Jamal is very handsome, don’t you think? And he likes threesomes, don’t you Jamal?”

  Jamal nodded. “Sure.”

“See? And Lisa went to a lot of trouble to get this set up. We talked about this, you said you wanted a threesome. I want Jamal to have sex with us.” Lisa thought she was going to have trouble keeping a straight face, this was working out perfectly, even better than she had expected. Dave was being more than punked, this was sweet revenge.

But Lisa didn’t laugh at all, because the words, once she uttered them, had a power, this whole faked play act suddenly becoming real in her mind, the idea of actually having sex with Jamal, who, standing before her, seemed more than just someone helping out with this act.

Slowly Dave fell back into the chair, and then he was smiling, almost laughing. “Okay, okay, you got me. Good one. This is all a joke, right?”

“It’s no joke. You said you would participate. You promised. Or weren’t you telling the truth?” Lisa tried to keep her voice flat, every time she mentioned truth to Dave she was on the verge of flinging his lies back in his face.

“I thought you were talking about you and Lori.”

Lisa let her eyes widen with the disbelief she didn’t quite feel. “Lori? You wanted to have sex with me and Lori? Is that what you’ve been thinking of, what you were fantasizing about when you were masturbating?”

Dave turned red. “I don’t think we need to talk about anything private like that in front of a stranger. And of course that’s what I was thinking about.”

“That isn’t what I meant by a threesome. I wanted to see you have sex with another man.”

“That’s gross!” said Dave. Then quickly he added, “No offence, Jamal.”

“None taken, man. But you have to admit, you sound pretty—old fashioned.”

Lisa watched the incredulity fall over Dave’s face, he wasn’t sure what to believe, still thinking it was all a joke. “You said you wanted a threesome,” she said. “Here it is. What’s your problem?”

“I don’t want to talk about it in front of him.”

“I don’t see why we can’t share some of our secrets,” said Lisa. “After all, we’re going to all have sex together. I can’t believe you were lusting after my friend Lori, I wasn’t thinking about that, I was thinking about me and you and Jamal, what do you think was getting me so excited?”

“No, you can’t be serious,” said Dave. “I couldn’t get turned on thinking about some guy, but another woman, Lori, that’s who I was thinking about.”

“With another man it’s still a threeway,” said Lisa.

“Yeah, what’s the difference?” asked Jamal, turning his gaze on Dave.

“Because it’s two women!” sputtered Dave.

Lisa shook her head sadly. “Dave, Dave. Don’t you remember what you kept telling me? You need to expand your horizons. This will be such a wonderful experience for both of us, don’t you think? Don’t you want to see Jamal and I make love? And don’t you want to be part of it? Mmm, it’s so erotic, don’t you think? All of our bodies together on this nice big bed.” Lisa looked at Jamal and dropped her eyes, telling the total truth now. “Jamal, I have to admit, I’ve been thinking of you.”

“Have you now,” said Jamal. “Well, well.”

His sultry tone gave Lisa goose bumps. She had to force herself to turn back to Dave. “Or maybe, to get us started, I could just watch you and Jamal?”

“This is all bullshit,” said Dave. “I don’t know what you are trying to pull here, Lisa, but this isn’t funny anymore.”

“Dave, I’m so disappointed,” said Lisa, not
having to fake her sadness, although not over what she was saying now. “I’ve been thinking about this so much. You’re going to miss out on something big, I bet.” She brushed her fingers against Jamal’s crotch, hoping she wasn’t going too far, yet instantly feeling his hardness, giving her license.

  “That’s sick!” said Dave.

Lisa signed dramatically. “I’m surprised at you, you’re being so old fashioned. If you aren’t going to be part of this threeway, I’m sure Jamal has a guy friend, I’ll do my threesome without you. Jamal, do you have a friend you could call?”

“Of course,” said Jamal. His eyes were smiling.

Okay, okay,” said Dave. “ I admit it, it was a good joke, but it’s gone too far. Jamal, you are a good actor, I bet that’s what you do for a living, right? Ha, ha, the joke’s on me.” Dave was pulling on his pants.

“Dave, I’m completely serious, and Jamal is no actor. At least I don’t think he is.”

“I own a software company now,” said Jamal.

“See?” said Lisa. “Jamal and I haven’t been in touch, but you might remember Lori used to date him, she tells me he is a wonderful lover,” she glanced over at Jamal, saw him smile, “and I’m so glad he is the one she found for us.”

“You’re a pretty good actor yourself, Lisa.” said Dave. “I never would have suspected. Now come on, either get Lori or I’m out of here.”

“You don’t believe me? You think I could lie to you?” asked Lisa.

“Whatever. But there’s no way you’re going to have sex with this guy. You won’t even do oral sex with me. If you thought this was some way to get me to think the kind of sex I want is kinky, it’s really backfiring, I think you’re as much a prude as ever.”

“Oh yeah? Well if you don’t want to do the threesome, then I guess I’ll just have to do it myself.” But now Lisa was stuck, Dave had called her bluff. Under different circumstances, if he hadn’t cheated, maybe this would have been a good way to curtail his desires, showing him what he wasn’t willing to do, providing a little perspective, proving that everyone had their own comfort zone.

But now, Jamal so close to her, closer than Dave in more than just distance—Lisa could sense Jamal’s presence, his power, his allure. She turned fully to Jamal, reaching for his hands, her first touch of his skin electric, not warm as Lori’s had been, but rather hot, like she had picked up a live wire, but instead of jolting her away a power flowed into her.

Lisa looked into his eyes. “Jamal, I never told you this, but I always thought you were so handsome and sexy. And you still are.” She reached up and kissed him, his lips so unlike Lori’s, yet holding that same promise, creating the same communication. It was the first time Lisa had kissed another man on the lips since she had been married, she should have felt ashamed, dirty, but all she wanted was more. The energy that flowed from Jamal, doubled, tripled, their eyes and mouths sparking, and she would have fallen if Jamal hadn’t held her up.

Lisa broke the kiss, one of the hardest things she had ever done, so much did she want Jamal just then, praying she could keep up this charade, wondering again if she had gone too far, if she was being unfair to Jamal, using him this way, as a prop to get her revenge.

“So you kissed him,” sneered Dave. “Big deal.”

Lisa didn’t look at Dave, she didn’t want to break the connection she had with Jamal, this was her way of validating her decision. And offering an invitation to Jamal.

Slowly, she slid to her knees in front of him, her hands riding down Jamal’s side, feeling his smooth, tight body through his shirt, grasping him by his hips, his crotch now inches from her face, but her eyes still on Jamal’s face.

“I have to admit, I thought about you plenty of times too,” said Jamal.

“Oh, come on!” said Dave. “I already told you, you win. You don’t need to keep doing this, it’s getting disgusting, you’re my wife, you look like some kind of slut.”

“That’s funny,” said Lisa. “Because I don’t feel like a slut. A slut is someone who just fucks around, not caring about the consequences. I care very much. I know my actions have consequences. If I decide to do something, I mean it.” She looked up at Jamal, looking for anything, any hint of what he was thinking, how far he would go.

Wondering how far she herself would go.

“You two are so full of it,” said Dave, his hands on his hips, petulant. “Lisa, you’re both full of shit, this stuff about you always wanting each other, you aren’t going to have sex with Lori or this guy.”

Lisa spun on him, yet not letting go of Jamal, her fingers digging into his hips, her anger shooting through her. “It’s the truth, I always thought Jamal was sexy, I would have loved to have had sex with him, from the minute I saw him, he’s amazingly handsome and kind and thoughtful. He hadn’t seen me in years and the first thing he said is how good I look, how much he likes my outfit. I bought this outfit for you, for you Dave, but you didn’t even notice it!” She was livid now, controlling it, but just barely. “And you know something else? The reason I didn’t try to do anything with him back then was because he was with Lori. They weren’t even married, but they were together, I’d never put him in that position, even consider making someone think about cheating. That’s how important relationships are to me. But obviously not to you, since even though we’re married you’ve been fucking some other woman behind my back, you asshole!”

Lisa was shaking, all of her pent up energy filling her body, the only thing keeping her from exploding was her verbal attack, a small release of the pressure, but still she had so much inside. She was clinging to Jamal, he was like a rock, a lifeline, and she felt his hand on her shoulder, steadying her.

“What are you talking about?” said Dave. “What other woman?”

“Miss PlanB! Or maybe Mrs. PlanB? If she’s willing to break up our marriage, I bet she doesn’t care about hers!”

Dave’s eyes glanced away, and then he looked back at her, glaring, and took a step toward her, stopping only when Jamal growled a warning. “You’ve been in my phone!”

“And you’ve been in some other woman!”

  “You pushed me to it!”

“So it’s my fault? You slept with some other woman, and it’s my fault?”

“Damn right it is!” said Dave, struggling to buckle his pants and stand up, looking foolish, caught, sputtering like a broken neon bulb.

Lisa, knowing she was right, she’d finally given him what he deserved, the truth stronger than anything. She was still on her knees, it should have been humiliating, but she’d never felt so powerful, so on top of things. Of her life, her decisions.

Her fingers relaxed, she was no longer digging into Jamal’s skin, no longer needing him as an anchor.

But she didn’t take her hands away, she didn’t get up, not yet. She relished this, this feeling of power in the most helpless of positions, how just her words could put Dave in his place, teach him the lesson of a lifetime, not caring if he got it or did anything with it, he was gone from her.

Dave had finally gotten his feet under him, not meeting her eyes. “I’m outta here.”

“Your stuff better be out of the house by the time I get back there,” said Lisa, her voice now calm, a mirror of her inner power. “And the divorce papers are on the kitchen counter. Sign them.”

Dave stopped, stunned. “You got divorce papers?”

“I put down ‘irreconcilable differences.’ Isn’t that appropriate? You weren’t willing to do something that you wanted me to do.”

“I can’t believe any of this. You—”

“Watch what you say,” warned Jamal.

Dave backed down. “I can’t believe you want to get a divorce, after doing this.”

“Doing what? I haven’t done anything. Not yet, anyway.” Lisa let that sink in, for him, or maybe for Jamal. Or herself. “Did you really think I’d stay with you after you not only cheated on me, but lied to me? You obviously don’t know anything about me.”

/>   Dave tried, but failed, to square his shoulders, withering under her glare, her power. At the door he turned to Jamal. “She’s not going to suck you, she never does that.” And he walked out the door.

“Make sure you’re gone by morning!” Lisa said to his back. “I’ll be here until then.” After she heard the outer door slam, she looked up at Jamal. “If that’s okay with you.”

Jamal ran his strong hand through her hair. “That comment he made, forget it. You don’t have to prove anything to me. “

“Maybe I need to prove something to myself,” said Lisa. She wrapped her arms around him, cradling him. Jamal reached down to lift her up.

Jamal held her, his arms strong, protective, his embrace close enough to feel connected, yet not so close that he was smothering her, in that moment, Lisa felt she had more freedom than if she had just jumped out of an airplane. “Thank you,” she whispered.

“All of this—was it everything you wanted?” asked Jamal.

Lisa looked up into his eyes, struck by the similarities to Lori’s, not the color, but the depth, the possibilities, the promise.

“With Dave, yes, it couldn’t have been any better. There was no way to fix what he had done to me, to us.” She shook her head. “I never thought I’d take revenge on someone. I’ve learned a lot about myself tonight, too.” She smiled. “But I have to say, they are wrong about one thing.”

  “What’s that?” asked Jamal.

“Revenge is much better served hot.” And Lisa laughed, freeing herself from everything.

And Lori was in the doorway, laughing as well, Lisa beckoning her over, the three of them holding each other.

  “What now?” asked Lori.

Lisa looked from Jamal to Lori, trying to read them, trying to communicate to them through her touch, her eyes. She felt nothing but love and support, but both of them respectful, waiting for her decision.

“Maybe Dave was right about one thing,” said Lisa.

  “Really? What’s that?” asked Lori.

“I need to broaden my horizons.” Deciding, knowing it was the right thing to do, feeling the energy from both of them in her embrace, knowing that they would participate in the life of the new Lisa.
