Beg Me: Sold By My Brother

“Yeah…he’s in a crate. But, he has enough food and fresh water to last until it reaches its destination and an oxygen tank in case he needs it…”

Reagan felt her lips twitch as she tried to keep a straight face. “A crate?”

Lucas looked like he was trying not to smile as well. “My security people caught him paying off the guy that left the fish-heads in our new home. He was down at the docks and they called me. I won’t say that I didn’t get in a few good blows, but before I killed him…while he was only rendered unconscious, I slipped him into one of the crates. The men and I had to act fast to get him all setup and once he was ‘comfortable,’ we screwed it shut. He should be arriving in the Congo in about a week.”

Reagan lost her battle with the smile and suddenly had the giggles. “The Congo?”

“Yeah. I hope it will take him a while to get out of there and get back. That way we at least have a reprieve if he doesn’t follow through on the promises he made while I was pummeling him with my fists.”

Still smiling Reagan asked, “And what promises were those?”

“He said that he would pack up his things and move out of the state. He thought he might go to New York. I thought that was a great idea…but I wanted him to have some time to think about what the alternatives might be if he chose to stay around and continue harassing you, us.”

“So you sent him to the Congo?” Peals of laughter erupted from her chest as she thought about her brother waking up on a ship headed for a remote and almost primitive place. She almost wished that she had a picture of it.

“Are you mad?” Lucas asked with a grin.

Reagan put her arms back around him and kissed him deeply. When they came up for air she growled in a sexy voice, “Just mad about you baby.”

Lucas smiled, “I won’t keep anything else from you ever again.”

“Good,” she said, “but while we’re being honest with one another there is something I need to tell you. This morning before I left Belinda’s house I took a pregnancy test. I haven’t had my period in two months and I’ve been waking up feeling slightly nauseated.”

“Oh, baby! Why didn’t you tell me? We should have taken you to the doctor…”

“Lucas, I’m not sick. I’m pregnant.”

There was dead silence in the cabin for what seemed like an eternity before a slow smile began to spread across Lucas’ face. At last, he whispered, “I’m going to be a dad?”

Regan smiled back and nodded. “Are you okay with that?”

Lucas grinned back at her, “Are you serious. I’m thrilled.” He pulled her into an embrace and smiled. “A baby.”

One thing Reagan knew for sure was that things were changing, again. But she had come a long way from where she was and she knew that she could not only handle the changes, she was ready to embrace them. Her life as Mrs. Lucas Ferris was going to be amazing and even if Aiden wasn’t smart enough to keep his distance when he showed back up, there was nothing he could do to take away the happiness she felt with Lucas. That dark and frightening part of her life was over and she was definitely on to bigger and better things.
