“Good.” When he first had to quit the team, he was worried he’d feel lost without football. He was surprised, but also happy when his coach asked him to stay on through the student-work program as an assistant running back coach. He’d thought the new coach hated him. Turned out he was just trying to challenge him. He was worried about how the team would take it as well, but he felt more like part of the team now than he did when he played. He still worked out with them and lifted weights, the only real difference was he was on the sidelines in jeans instead of on the field in pads.
Bree yawned and stretched, easing her feet up beside her, she put her head in his lap and closed her eyes. Garrett rubbed her side and stared at her. She looked more peaceful now than he’d ever remembered her being. It made him feel good. Things may not worked out exactly how he thought they would, but they had each other. That was all that really mattered anyway.
