  “We still don’t know for sure who they are exactly.” He continued. “We do know they were mining something up that canyon. What it was, the scientists are still trying to find out.” Alex paused to clear his throat and wipe his eyes. Keisha squeezed his hand and leaned into him for support. “The government is pretty sure they weren’t pirates though. They had too much military discipline and advanced technology. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.” Whoever they are, they have a lot to answer for.” He said, his facing going grim.

  “I joined the militia mom.” Said Alex, a slight quaver in his voice. “I know you didn’t want that for me, but it seems like the right thing to do.” Looking over into Keisha’s glorious brown eyes he continued, “We have to be ready if they come back. We have to be ready to take the fight to them when we find out who they are.”

  “We’ll be ready.”

  He turned then and led Keisha back down the canyon. A gentle breeze blew across the clearing where his mother’s cairn lay, rustling the beautiful blue tinged violet flower. It was almost like they were waving goodbye.
