His eyes went wide and he laughed.
“Bonnie,” I turned and saw Jay was now by my side.
“You guys really need to stop that.” I smiled, trying to make a joke.
“Are you okay?” Jay asked, grabbing my hand.
“She almost died Jay.” Leon snapped, that humor he had was now gone.
“Can you leave us alone for a few minutes?” Something told me Jay wasn’t asking.
Leon lowered his eyes and then looked over at me. “I’ll be back.”
Once Leon had left I wasn’t sure what to say.
“Are you okay?” He repeated making me looked at him.
“I’m fine.” I said.
“Pet,” He began, softly and I through my arms around him. I couldn’t stop my tears from falling down my eyes. He held onto me tightly; never seeming like he would let go. “She won’t get away with this. I’ll kill her for what’s she’s done to you.”
I knew he wasn’t lying to me. I pulled away slightly and stared into his golden eyes. He looked like he wasn’t ever going to leave me, no matter what. I wasn’t sure how I felt about this, but I wasn’t sure if I was ready to hear him say what I could see in his eyes.
“You told me she needs to have a trail.” I responded. “You’re the prince so you have to set an example.”
“Fuck her trail.” I shivered at the sound of his angry voice. “I know what she did and as far as setting an example: I will show everyone if they ever try to hurt my pet they’ll pay with their lives.”
“Jay, what about Beth?” I didn’t want to think about Jonathan being dead or the fact that Ang wouldn’t remember a thing, but what would I tell Beth. She loved Jonathan. “I don’t know what to say to her. She loved Jonathan and he’s dead because of me.”
“He’s dead because of Jennifer.” Jay began wiping tears from my eyes. I didn’t even know I was still crying. “Damon asked Ang how they got there before they wiped her memory clean.”
“How did they get there?”
“Some pixies was supposed to go after Angelica, but before they used their dust on her she screamed, must have been a newbie, anyway Jonathan heard her scream and tried to help her, but a human against a pixie….” He trailed off. I knew what he was saying.
“I don’t know how I’m going to face Beth.” I cried. “And Angelica…she may not remember what she had to go through, but I remember. She must have been so scared.”
I felt Jay arms go around me and I felt as if his strength was coming inside of me. I held him back, wanting so badly, for the first time, for his dust to work on me. I wasn’t sure if I was strong enough for this.
Knowing that my friends and family were in danger because of me. One of my close friends was dead and it was my fault.
I wasn’t sure why but I pulled back away Jay and stared into his beautiful eyes. He looked so concerned for me. Suddenly, I needed to feel him. I needed to feel the same way I did when he kissed me as the world around us fell apart.
“Bonnie,” He whispered, as my hand moved from his hair down his face, and to his neck. “What are you doing?” He questioned, but still he leaned into my touch.
“Kiss me.” I whispered.
“You’re upset right now.” He smiled, trying to pull away.
“Yeah, I am.” I softly spoke. “But I still want you to kiss me.”
“I took a lot of your life force Bonnie.” He said not looking at me. “I nearly killed you.”
“That’s nice to know.” I smiled, trying to make a joke. “You said you would never hurt me, so I take it you find me to irresistible to pull away from.”
“Don’t joke about that.”
“From one little kiss.”
“One little kiss would make you mine.” He said I wasn’t sure if he was saying it to me or to himself. “But with one little kiss I could steal your life.”
Suddenly, he was on top of me. He pinned my arms above my head and I watched as his beautiful eyes lazily took me in.
“Too much irresistible for your own good,” He whispered. “You’re so perfect. It’s so hard to believe you’re real.”
I laughed and leaned up to kiss him softly on the cheek. “Stop lying to me.” I said and then pulled away.
“I never lie to you.”
“You’re lying right there.” I laughed, as he did. “Do you know how far you can go?”
He raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“I mean how far can you kiss someone before you have to take their soul or whatever?”
“I don’t know.” He answered, looking puzzled.
“You want to find out?” I said, leaning in closer to him. I couldn’t believe I was acting like this. I had almost died, yet right now I wanted to feel his lips against mine. I was being very stupid.
“Pet, if I kissed you again I wouldn’t be able to stop.” He murmured his lips hovering over mine.
“Good,” I responded leaning up to kiss him.
“Are you two o…kay…?” I turned my head to the door and saw Jay’s sister and the rest of the forbidden four standing there. “I guess nearly dying can’t stop the two of you.”
Dora jumped down on the bed, just as Jay got up; letting me go. “I am going to have to cut your hair.”
I frowned, picking up a piece of my hair. “Whatever.” I shrugged.
“You’re okay with getting your hair cut?” Dora asked as if it shocked her.
“It’s only hair.” I replied and tried to sit up.
“I know that. I just didn’t think you moral girls knew that.” She laughed.
I sighed knowing Angelica would have a fit if she had to cut her hair. Beth could care less.
“That Sam chick got away.” Damon said. “But not for long.”
“No,” I whispered. “Leave her alone. She was being used. She had no choice.”
Damon frowned. “So, we still need to find her, if not only to get her to tell us what’s going on with Jennifer.”
“She’s working with Derek.” I told them all.
“He’s dead.” Jay said.
“He isn’t.” I sighed and looked away from his eyes and over at Dora. “Jennifer is trying to give me to him so she’ll be free.”
“What would he want with you?” Nate asked, folding his arms.
“I’m not really sure, but they said something about this other girl. And I know Derek wants the power of the Four Gods.” I said running a hand through my hair.
“Other girl?” Leon whispers. “Did Suzaku mention the other girl at all?”
I tried to remembered, then shook my head yes. Leon sighed and rubbed his forehead.
“What’s the matter?” I asked.
“I think he’s trying to bring her back.” Leon let out at last.
“Who back?” Damon eyes looked confused.
“Lilith.” Leon whispered not meeting anyone’s eyes.
“Why do you think that?” Dora shook after several minutes.
“That was the main reason behind the war.” Leon shook his head looking up at the ceiling. “He knew there would be no way for either side to really win. We all balance each other out, but it he had Lilith he would have more power.”
“What is a Lilith?” I asked, blinking.
“She’s a fairy tale.” Jay frowned. “She’s not real…”
“Well if someone had said pixies were real a few months ago I would be saying the same thing.” I responded then look at Leon. “Who is she?”
“Lilith is supposed to be a pixie that could turn humans into pixies.” Leon frowned. “We’re not sure how…..”
“But they think I somehow can help them get her back?” I asked, staring at all of them.
“It’s not possible for pixies to turn humans.” Jay reason, grabbing my hand.
“Sam,” I whispered, taking in a breath. “She said she was turned into a pixie.”
“If this is true…” Dora began her eyes on me. “You should leave with me, Bonnie. He won’t be able to find yo
u.”
“No,” I nearly screamed. “I’m not giving up my life because some guy believes I can bring Lilith back.”
“She’s right.” Leon shook his head. “We don’t know for sure if Bonnie is the one Lilith chose. Derrick has been wrong before.” There was something behind his eyes that made me stare at him. He looked up at me then looked away. “We should make sure he doesn’t try to come back.”
“Well, duh, I was just thinking she may want to leave with me and party.” Dora smiled. “You’re new hair cut will have all the men shouting.”
Jay growled and grabbed my hand. “Let’s work on keeping her safe.”
“Right,” Damon glared at Dora, making her roll her eyes.
“I guess you already have men shouting over you.” Dora smirked. “I’m going to talk to mom and dad about this, Jay.”
“Please don’t. They’ll come.”
“You know they’ll check everything out for themselves. That gives you at least the summer to get everything in order.” She eyed my neck and then looked over at Damon and Leon. “I say you do that before someone else does.” She turned her eyes back to me and smiled. “I’ll fix your hair before I go. You can thank me then.”
She walked out of the door, Nate following her, shaking his head.
“I guess on that note I should leave.” Damon sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. He stared at me. “I’m sorry about everything and I shouldn’t have ever brought Angelica into this.”
I blinked. This was new. I didn’t think Damon knew the word sorry. From the looks of it neither did Jay.
“You should leave.” Jay said, slowly. “I’m sure you want to tell my sister goodbye.”
Damon smirked and then laughed. “Don’t worry Jay. You’re my brother, I would never.” He grinned, and then gave me one last look before he left.
“I think I should go home now.” I said, trying to get out of the bed, but I almost fell.
Both Jay and Leon came to catch me. I stared at them both, blinking. This wasn’t good.
“I got her Leon.” Jay said calmly. “She’s my girlfriend.”
I looked at Jay like he lost his mind. I had never said I was his girlfriend, but with the way I was acting earlier I guess he would think that.
I felt Leon arms let me go. My eyes went straight to his face and I saw an emotion that I didn’t like go across his face.
“Leon,” I began not knowing what to say to him, but glaring draggers at Jay.
“I’m going to make sure Dora is okay.” Leon said. “I’ll check up on you later.”
I watched him go and folded my arms. “Jay, why did you say that? I never said I was your girlfriend!”
“You didn’t have too.” Jay smiled, pulling my hand. “Your lips did all the talking.”
My eyes went wide and I hoped I wasn’t blushing. “You can be a real jerk when you want to be.”
“Isn’t that why you like me?” He pushed my hair from my face. “Because I can keep you on your toes.”
“Is that a new saying for I’m a jack-butt?” I laughed.
“What happened to us practicing?” He lifted his eyebrows, making me aware of what he was applying.
Jay leaned down close to me and just when his lips were about to touch mine, I pushed him. He stumbled back, a bit, most likely from shock then being pushed, and eyed me.
“Why did you do that?”
“I don’t kiss jerks!” I yelled and then walked away. Before I walked out of the door completely I turned around and saw Jay was smirking at me with the look he always gave me, the one that told me there was something deeper there; I just had to pay better attention to it.
After Dora cut my hair, she left. I kind of wondered if I was going to see her again, but she reinsured me that she would be back soon. She didn’t want to leave me alone with the guys. I rolled my eyes, as I sat in one of Jay’s cars, just thinking about it.
“Why aren’t you my girlfriend?” He asked, keeping his eyes on the road. He was taking me home. “I’m good looking,”
“Vain.”
“I’m smart.”
“You think to highly of yourself.”
“Stop that,” He chuckled. “But seriously why aren’t we together. It feels like we are, but then you say things….”
“That reminded you that we aren’t.” I joked.
“I’m being serious Bonnie.”
I didn’t want to talk about this. Him being a pixie and Leon had always been in the back of my mind. Being with him would be complicated.
“I keep seeing all of the negatives.” I replied.
“Me being a pixie or because of Leon?”
“Both,”
He responded after a few moments. “I see the negatives too.” He admitted.
“I not being you’re usually type and I don’t put out.” I smirked.
Jay ignored me. “You’re everything I’ve never dream, yet everything I need and yet I’m not good enough for you. Leon told me that last part and honestly I agree.” He laughed.
I frowned.
“Why did he say that?”
“Because he cares about you,” He murmured. “You care about him?”
“I care about you all.” I whispered.
Jay glanced at me then back at the road. “Your hair looks nice.”
I eyed him. He was going to ignore my statement. “Glad you noticed.” I yawned.
He smirked and slowed the car down in front of my house. Jay turned the car off then looked at me.
“About today,” his eyes were staring deeply into mine.
I felt the nerve to stop him from saying whatever he was going to tell me.
“I just want you to know I won’t let her hurt you, your family, and friends. I’m sorry I couldn’t stop her from killing Jonathan. I shouldn’t have ever let you leave like that.”
“No, you wanted to give me breathing room. You knew I needed that.” I shook my head. “It’s not your fault. It’s mine.”
“Pet,”
“Stop it Jay!” My voice rose. “It is my fault. If I had never went to that damn club and just stayed at home like my mother always wants Jonathan would still be alive.”
“Bonnie,” Jay pulled me close to him. I felt my body shake. I tried to calm down but tears started falling from my eyes and suddenly I couldn’t control myself. “This may sound selfish and you may hate me for it, but I am glad you went to that club that day. I am happy I meant you, got to know you, because I fell in love with you. If you hadn’t gone to that club I wouldn’t truly be living right now. I would just be existing. You saved me when I didn’t know I needed to be saved. I love you more than I ever knew I could love someone.”
I pulled back, slightly and stared at him. This wasn’t what I had been expecting. His beautiful, perfect eyes were taking me in and I didn’t know what to say.
Jay always surprised me. One moment he was the jerk I knew next he was the sweet caring guy who was in front of me right now.
“Jay, I don’t know what to say.”
“Say you will at least give us a chance.” Jay held my hands not meeting my eyes.
“There is so much going on.” I whispered. Not only was Jennifer trying to kill me Leon words kept ringing in my ears. A life unlived.
There could never be a future for Jay and me. I had already told myself this, countless times, yet looking into his eyes right now I didn’t want to care.
“How about we worry about the negatives later?” Jay brushed my hair from my face. “I think we both worry about that two much. Right now let’s just think about us.”
I put Jennifer, Leon, my family, and even friend’s aside for a moment.
“Just us,” I whispered, making him smile.
“Just us,” He repeated.
I don’t know who leaned in first, but soon I felt him lips and was happy for once not worrying about what I knew was right and just did what I wanted.
