"When I came back to find you a few months later, and you had disappeared, I felt so betrayed. Like that damn fucking hair clip had led me astray, giving me false hope, and I almost threw it away. But I couldn't part with it. It would've been like throwing away that last piece of you. So I've carried it around with me all these years."
The bit of plastic in her hand blurred as she looked at it through her tears. She closed her fist around it, squeezing it tightly. She looked up at Gage, giving him a pathetic imitation of a smile as she fought back her tears. "Thanks for not giving up on me once you found me again. I know I didn't make things easy on you."
Gage squeezed her tight and buried his face in her hair. "Ah, Sunshine, I told you from the start I wouldn't give up, and I wouldn't let go. I was fighting to keep you, and I wanted to win." He gave her a cocky smile. "You didn't stand a chance."
Cassie laughed. "Who has the smart mouth, now?" She asked, sarcastically.
"You," he tickled her along her ribs.
She laughed kicking her feet, shrieking and begging him to stop.
He stopped tickling her and gave her a squeeze before rolling her to her back. He leaned over her, his face just inches away, his tone turned serious as he said, "I love you, Cassie. I'll take you any way I can get you. Sassy, sweet, grumpy, angry. I don't care, so long as you're mine. " He kissed her softly on the lips then made a path of kisses up her jaw, stopping at her ear where he whispered tenderly, "You are and always will be, my Sunshine."
