They were nearly finished with lunch when Eleanor put down her glass and looked pointedly at Blake and Katie. “This has been nice, but it’s not like you, Blake, to arrange a family meeting without some purpose. Are you going to tell us?”
Exchanging a glance with him, Katie let him bring their clasped hands into view, drawing everyone’s attention to brilliant diamond on her hand.
“Katie and I are getting married,” he said simply.
There was a brief silence in which Eleanor stared and Tate frowned, while Tanya and Charlie broke out in smiles.
“We love each other,” Katie said softly, looking directly at Eleanor. “I know you can understand that.”
They shared a moment when Katie felt Eleanor weighing the sincerity of Katie’s declaration and then Eleanor nodded. “I do understand.”
“Is this what you want?” Tate asked.
Blake tensed, but Katie squeezed his hand and smiled at Tate. “It’s everything I want.”
“Then, congratulations,” Tate said, his expression lighter. He lifted his glass and the others followed suit, though Eleanor was the last. “May you be as happy as Tanya and I are.”
Katie’s gaze went to Blake and he focused only on her and promised, “We will be.”
Heedless of their audience, this time it was she that drew him into a kiss, knowing without doubt that with Blake, she’d truly found forever.
