“You’ll see. I’m not playing their game. From now on, we are going to do things differently. You are coming with me. You are of no use to anyone if you go into lockup with Misters S and C holding the key. I need you with me. I need to know what you know, and you need to know what I know. Together we are stronger.”

Keeping a tight hold of Camm’s right arm, Agent Allen turned Camm away from the mansion and hustled her away into the dark Trona night.

Camm didn’t get a chance to explain the monster rat had just gone this same way.

The bright desert sun burned down on Lenny with no mercy, waking him up from what had been a very short slumber. Seeing the snake enter the mansion, Lenny had fled from it, out the front doors of the mansion, which the boys had left open after driving Cal’s car up the stairs and into the main hall.

Unfortunately for Lenny, he left the mansion before a full transition could take place, and he was still in the alternate world. The primitive one without food. As he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and stood up, he noticed he was not alone.

Not only was he not alone, he was totally surrounded. He rotated 360 degrees and saw men standing all around him. Short men, all dark skinned, barely clothed. Their faces were painted in bright red and yellow. Their long black hair was braided and, in many cases, decorated with feathers. Lenny reached up and smoothed his long blond ponytail.

At first no one spoke. In wonder and confusion, Lenny surveyed all the men around him, looking for a friendly face. They all looked back at him with curiosity and animosity. One of the men stepped forward. He was older than the others and appeared to have more hair and body decorations. Perhaps he was in charge.

Lenny stood straighter and raised his right hand to shoulder height, with his hand open and palm facing forward. He said just one word. “Dude.”

  A. L. Washburn and B. W. Washburn are brothers, licensed lawyers and full time writers, residing in Colorado and southern Utah. Growing up in a large family in Trona, California, a small mining community not far from Death Valley, they spent many happy days in their youth roaming the wastelands of the Mojave Desert. After living in South America at different times, each came back to finish graduate school and start separate careers. Living thousands of miles apart, they worked in different areas of the law, while raising their own large families.

Each has authored legal materials and professional articles, but after years of wandering in the wastelands of the law, their lifelong love of fiction, especially fantasy, science fiction and horror, brought them back together to write a new young adult horror series, beginning with Pitch Green and later Mojave Green. They have found there yet remain many untold wonders to be discovered in the unbounded realms of the imagination, especially as those realms unfold in the perilous wastelands of the Dimensions in Death.
