Well, I do, but “Everyone in Denmark needed to chill out” is probably not what Mrs. Grater is looking for.

The knock on the door makes my heart race. Most people call from the call box downstairs but I know from experience just how easy it is to get into a secure apartment building.

Quietly, I get up and tiptoe to the front door. It’s probably a package delivery. My dad is always ordering stuff online. Part of me, though, hopes it’s Azmos.

I’ve only seen the demon for short periods of time and only when I’ve sought him out, so it’d be nice to have him come to me with a task. For the past two months, the demons have been rebuilding their lawn ornament business and haven’t had much need for me.

I actually miss running errands for Azmos, even the mundane variety.

Through the peephole, I see a shock of bubblegum pink hair and realize it’s Myron. I frown. Myron has never been to my apartment before. He and I aren’t exactly friends. I’ve avoided visiting his library, knowing that when I do, I’ll have to spill my guts in payment for the information he’s given me, and I’m not ready to talk to him about things. Especially certain ex-boyfriends. And I’m still mad he knew about Cam and didn’t tell us. Gabriel says Cam made Myron promise not to tell but that’s not good enough for me.

Maybe he’s finally come to collect. Or maybe he’s come to apologize. I take a deep breath, mentally running through excuses of why now isn’t a good time to tell him all the fine details of my demon assistant jobs—plural, since the first one counts.

  I open the door.

He looks put together—clothes unwrinkled, hair styled—but something in his expression is heavy, weighed down with worry.

  “Hi,” I say.

Myron doesn’t respond right away. He looks past me, into the apartment, as if trying to assess the situation.

Finally he looks me in the eye and says, “I need your help.”
